Chapter 1
“Hey! What are you doing?” Someone asked. I turned my head to find my only best friend climbing from my bedroom window. Axel and I have been best friend since elementary school.
He is the one who shares his lunch with me when I accidentally left it at home.
“Hey,” I said in a monotone voice.
“What are you doing on the roof? Are you thinking of jumping down?” He gasped dramatically, sitting down next to me.
“Of course not.” I pushed his shoulders jokingly. "You know how much I like sitting out here, enjoying the beautiful night sky."
"Beautiful? There is not a single star in the sky tonight and it looks like it is going to rain." Axel pointed out.
"So, I like the nice wind, blowing on my face." I shrugged.
“So what’s on your mind?” he asked.
"How do you know I have something on my mind?" I asked him.
"Because you always do that pondering look with your hand on your chin." He pointed. I quickly take my hand away from my chin.
"Alright, you got me." I sigh. "Have you ever thought of the future and what it is like?” I asked.
“Why do I need to think about the future? I can see the future” He chuckles.
“Stop it.” I laughed. “I’m being serious. Have you ever wonder what would be like if you can see the future?” I asked.
“Not really. I don’t have to see the future. I’m spontaneous.” He smiled. "I like to see how fate takes me. “Is what I always say, if you want to do something you like, take a step and do it.”
“Easy for you to say.” I rolled my eye. “You are so outgoing and brave. You do everything without thinking.” I said. “I’m the total opposite of you. I’m quiet and shy. Afraid of taking the step forward, always thinking of the pros and cons before doing it.”
“Maybe you should try being spontaneous, stop thinking about it and do it, ” he said.
“I wish.” I pull my legs closer to my chest.
“Hey, do you want to play a game?” Axel asked.
“Sure.” I shrugged. "Is not like I got anything to do."
“Okay, close your eyes.” He said
“Why? You are not going to push me down, right?” I asked.
“Shh, You talk too much.” He shut me up. “Now listen to me,” Axel said, mumbling something weird. “Okay, now open your eye.”
I open my eye, and I was standing in my living room. I don't remember ever feeling of leaving the roof. “Axel, this is ridiculous.” I crossed my arms. “You just brought me to my living room. What game is this?"
“Chill Missy, look carefully.” He pointed to the middle of the living room.
“Is that...me.” I gasped. “That is me when I am little.” I look at the little girl playing with her toy train. “What... How?” I was stunned. “Wait, am I dreaming?” I pinched my cheeks. “Axel, what is this? How are we here?” I looked at him for an explanation.
“I don’t know?” he shrugged. “Is your dream? Why are you asking me?”
“Dream? How could I be dreaming?" I asked. "Weren't we just on the roof talking, how could that be a dream?" I was confused.
"And how can you explain little you in front of you right now." Axel pointed it out.
"Okay, so I’m dreaming. Why would I dream about this?”
“How would I know? It is your dream. Not mine.”
“Hold up, why are you even in my dream? This is so weird.”
“Maybe you miss me, so that’s why you dream of me too.” Axel smug and bump my shoulder.
“Shut up.” I slapped his arm. "Why would I dream about you?"
“Why do you keep asking so much question?" Axel groaned.
"What I am curious, all this doesn't make sense at all."
"Can we please focus on your dream right now?" Axel asked. I nod. "Alright, look how cute you are." He cooed.
I look at little me. She is so cute and happy playing with her toy, so carefree with nothing to worry about. After watching little me play for a few seconds, my mom and dad walked into the living room. My dad picked me up and tickled me.
“Look at you so happy and carefree, what changed this little girl,” Axel asked.
“She grows up and opens her eyes to see the world,” I told him. "The world is dark, and many unexpected things could happen if you never carefully analyzed it."
Axel sigh, “I wish you are more like that. I would love to see you smile more.” He looked at me. "You look beautiful with that smile." I gave him a small smile, and Axel smile back. “Come on, we can’t stay here long.” He took my hand.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because we just can't." Axel explain.
"Axel you know that is not a good reason." I chuckled.
"Whatever." He said. "Let's go." Axel took my hand and brought me somewhere else.
