The Sorting Ceremony
"Mind if I sit here?" I ask two boys on the Hogwarts Express.
"Sure." A boy with dark-hair and glasses says.
"Thank you!" I say sitting down next to another boy with ginger hair and freckles.
"I'm Harry, Harry Potter." Harry Potter, the boy with the dark-hair and glasses, says.
"I'm Ron Weasley." Ron Weasley, the boy with the ginger hair and freckles, says.
"I'm Maddie." I say not saying my last name.
"It's great to meet you Maddie!" Ron says smiling.
"Excuse me have any of you seen a toad, a boy Neville is looking for it." A girl with brown hair says.
"No sorry." Harry says.
"Holy cricket! Your Harry Potter! I'm Hermione Granger, and you are?" Hermione says motioning towards Ron.
"I'm Ron Weasley." Ron says.
"Pleasure, and who might you be?" Hermione asks me.
"I'm Maddie, it's lovely meeting you!" I say smiling.
"You as well." Hermione says.
Hermione gets up to leave but turns around.
"You best get changed into your robes, I expect we'll be arriving soon." Hermione says.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates but, before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while your here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, any rule-breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." A lady named Minerva Mcgonagall, deputy headmistress of Hogwarts says.
"Trevor!" A boy named Neville says when he sees his pet toad.
"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." Mcgonagall says and turns to go back into the Great Hall.
"You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort." Draco says looking at Ron.
"I can help you there." Draco says holding out his hand to Harry.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks." Harry says.
"It's great to see you again Draco." I say going to hug him.
"You as well Maddie." Draco says hugging me back.
"Excuse me." Professor Mcgonagall says coming up behind us.
"I have a few start-of-term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you that the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." Professor Dumbledore says and sits back down before Professor Mcgonagall starts again.
"Right then, right, okay, Gryffindor!" The Sorting Hat calls.
Hermione gets off the chair and goes over to the Gryffindor table.
"Draco Malfoy!" Professor Mcgonagall says.
I give Draco's hand a squeeze before he goes up to the chair. Draco sits down and the hat barely touches his head before the Sorting Hat yells Slytherin.
"Ronald Weasley!" Professor Mcgonagall calls.
Ron goes to sit on the chair and the Sorting Hat is placed on his head.
"Ha! Another Weasley, I know just what to do with you, Gryffindor!" The Sorting Hat yells out.
Ron lets out a sigh of relief and joins his brothers at the Gryffindor table.
"Harry Potter!" Professor Mcgonagall calls.
Harry walks up to the Sorting hat and it is placed on his head.
"Hmm difficult, very difficult. Plenty of courage I see, not a bad mind either, there's talent, oh yes and a thirst to prove yourself but where to put you?" The Sorting Hat says contemplating where to put Harry.
"Not Slytherin, not Slytherin." I hear Harry whisper.
"Not Slytherin eh? Are you sure? You could be great you know! It's all here in your head and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness there's no doubt about that! No? Well if you're sure better be...Gryffindor!" The Sorting Hat calls out.
Harry joins the Gryffindors at their table.
"Madelyn Snape!" Professor Mcgonagall calls.
The room quiets down and I look to my dad, Snape, at the professor's table for reassurance and he looks away. I look down at the floor and sit in the chair. I look out to all the other students and see Draco smiling at me. I give a slight smile before the Sorting Hat is placed on my head.
"Ah another difficult one. Smart that's for sure, and very ambitious, but brave above all else." The Sorting Hat says on my head.
I look out to the Gryffindor table and see Ron, Harry, and Hermione.
"Best make it...Gryffindor!" The Sorting Hat yells.
I smile and walk over to the Gryffindor table and sit next to Hermione. Everyone is cheering for me and I look up to my dad. He looks disappointed so I look away. I look to Draco and he looks upset. I'm happy to be in Gryffindor but as a Snape, people would expect me to be in Slytherin.
