Five Years Later

Grace sits on her queen size bed and frowns at the binder in her hand. Math has never been her favorite subject and she has always been close to failing every year.Grace sighs and bangs on the wall which leads to Faith's room. A few minutes later, her door opens and her sister walks in, carrying a history book and her black glasses are perched on her tiny nose.

"What?" Faith asks, eyeing Grace suspiciously.

"I need help with math." Faith grins and plops down her bed, adjusting her glasses.

"Okay, what are you doing?"

"I don't even know." Grace admits, sliding the binder towards her sister. With a sigh, Faith grabs the binder and opens it. She frowns and then smiles.

"Look, that's what you did wrong. You put the numerator for the denominator. Just switch them and continue to work the problem like you did."

"Okay, thanks."

"Yea, no problem." Faith says, standing up slowly. She turns to leave but stops before she can open the door.

"Did mom call?" Faith asks her, not looking at her. Grace's heart does a flip and she feels like screaming and hitting her mother for what she has done to her sweet little sister.

"No, I'm sorry. But maybe tomorrow." faith finally looks at her sister and the look on her face forms a lump in Grace's throat.

"Doubtful." She mutters before walking out, shutting the door behind her slowly. Grace stares at the wooden door and throws her pillow at it. Picking up her phone, she dials the number she thought she had burned from her head.

"April Many, Thorn residence, how can I help you?"

"Hey, is Claudia Thorn there?"

"No, she left for a lunch break, can I take a call?"

"No, that's okay. Can you tell me when she gets in?"

"I'm not sure, honey. Give me your number and I'll make sure to give it to her as soon as she gets back." Grace fumes then clenches her teeth.

"No, no need. Never mind, thanks for you help." She says sarcastically before hanging up. Grace throws her phone on the bed and grabs her keys and purse from the table. She knocks on Faith's door and holds her breath.

"Yea, come in." Grace hesitates before opening the door slowly and stepping into the bright red room.

"Hey." Faith says, obviously surprised.

"Hey, you busy?" Faith shakes her head and Grace smiles.

"Good, let's go do something. I'm incredibly bored." Faith look away then stands up from her desk chair.

"Sure, okay."Grace watches as Faith grabs her white jacket and wallet before following her out of the house and into Grace's black Jeep.

"So, where are we going?" Faith asks as they pull onto the highway.

"I don't know yet. You down for an adventure?" Faith frowns and picks the lint from her jacket.

"What kind of adventure? How long are we gonna be gone? I don't know if this is such a good idea, I mean what about school...and dad? And what if mom calls?" Grace could feel her eye twitching and she breathed deeply before she snapped at her.

"Listen, just sit back and enjoy the ride. We won't be gone more than two days, let's just get out of here and enjoy our lives. Also, dad won't even notice that we are gone, and if mom calls and we don't answer, she can just call us back when we are home...deal?" Faith crosses her arms over her chest and leans her head on the door.

"Fine, but it better not be illegal." Grace laughs and turns on the radio.

"I promise."
