Chapter 5

I was woken up by a loud noise that was going off in the place it was weird as I’ve never heard this sound before either. It scared me enough that I raced out of bed in my pj’s to where Leaf’s room is.

I raced into the room and jumped into the bed. “Oof!”

“Zara what’s wrong?!” Leaf groaned removing the covers from his face.

“T-there’s a scary noise! I could hear it in my room.” I whimpered.

“What noise?” he asked sitting up the right way.

“It’s like this buzzing noise,” I muttered very unsure of how to explain it to him.

“You're not joking right?” he asked.

“Yeah. It scaring me… what's going on?” I asked. He picked me up and raced down to the central computer. At the time I didn’t know what was going on and what that meant what was on the screen it took a few years till I did.

“Go get changed and get right back down here,” he told me. He was serious about this. I raced up to my room and got changed into some of my new clothing, a black frilly t-shirt, with some dark green pants as I had a pink hand band to hold back my hair.

I raced but downstairs to find Leaf in the same clothes I saw him in when I first met him. A dark green coat, with a white shirt and black pants, he had a weapon on his back which was a giant sword.

“Hold on to my hand Zara and don’t let go. You are going to watch first hand what our job is,” he told me as grabbed my hand. I nodded not sure how to reply to was he said.

He waved his hand in front of us was a dark swirling portal opened. He began to walk forward, but I didn’t move. He noted this quickly. “It’s okay Zara I’m right here with you there’s nothing for you to worry about. I won’t let anything happen to you,” he told me. That helped me calm down a bit.

I didn’t get the way I felt calm around Leaf I was never good with new people and often got into fights because of that fact. But Leaf I feel like I’ve known him for years, and as someone, I can count on. I never found out why till many years later.

I took a deep breath as I followed Leaf into the portal. We walked around the dimensional gate for about my guess… a few minutes till we went into another portal. When we got in a creature, I remember from a few days ago came to view.

“Ah if it isn’t good old Leaf it’s been a while. Oh who do we have here a new student for me to snack on is it?” it hissed. I knew it wasn’t like the others from before this one felt stronger… more dangerous. “Haha! Look at the thing shaking here like a leaf!” it laughed at me.

“Go hide! I’ll find you as soon as I can. There’s a town nearby go hide there.” Leaf told me I could get here the strain in his voice. Leaf wasn’t expecting to see this particular Kaji it was dangerous, and it was clear that I was only going to be in the way.

“Okay Leaf… I’ll hold you to that promise.” I muttered before turning and running. The Kaji, however, jumped in front of me causing me to stumble back falling to my butt. I watched as it raised its blade over its head to hit me.

“Eeep!” I yelped as I covered my face as I waited for the blow, but I heard the clash of metal as I was slashed with something warm and stick. I opened my eyes to see Leaf in front of me holding up his sword blocking the black but was cut on his shoulder.

“Get moving I’ll take care of this guy. So move it!“ Leaf hissed at me. I jumped up and began to run.

“Not so fast shrimpy!” it hissed.

“Not happening!” Leaf replied.

I continued running and running till I reached the town though it as very run down and poly maintained in comparison to my old home. I sat down on a flat piece of broke wall as I placed my head down into my knees and began to cry.

Why did I leave? Leaf’s the only person that can bring me back… Leaf’s the only one I can trust right now so why! I cried I’ve never been one to run from a fight, but this was different. I knew that I had no chance of fighting the Kaji but why did I leave him alone.

“Hey are you alright?” someone asked I shook my head as my eyes were filled with tears.

“I left him behind like he asked but what if he dies.” I sobbed.

“Who?” they asked.

“My master! He told me to run but what if he forgets about me.” I cried.

“It’s okay, kitten,” they told me. As the person patted my head. I looked at the person the hand came from they looked as if they were 3 years older then me (meaning they are probably about 9 years old). I noticed their pretty white hair and blue eyes yet to me they didn’t fit.

“You're pretty,” I muttered.

“Thanks. You're really cute too kitten I love your pink hair and gold eyes,” they tell me.

“Thanks… your white hairs nice too… but your eyes don’t seem to match.” I muttered.

“Yeah I wear contact to hid my purple eyes,” she told me.

“Wow! That’s cool!” I gasped.

“Hey kitten what are you doing here! You know it’s our land!” a man growled pulling the girl up by her hair.

I can hold them. They are only people… not Kaji. I huffed. “Hey! Let go of her!” I yelled wiping away my tears as I got into my fighting stance (which at the time was really bad and needed a lot of work).

“And what are you going to do about that pup!” the man growled.

“Get away. Leave me behind,” she told me.

“I’ll fight you that’s what! I’m not going to leave someone else behind.” I huffed.

“Why are you trying to help a pup like her! Here kind treat us Outcasts like nothing not as bad as Richies and Preps but still not enough to get your charity!” the man growled.

“I don’t know what you are talking about, but I don’t care. I’m not going to let you hurt them,” I huffed.

I watched them drop the girl and make there way over to me. “And what are you going to do pup? You have no chance at beating me,” he huffed. As he raced over to grab me.

“Leave me and her alone!” I yowled before punching the guy in the side sending him to the ground.

“What the-?” he gasped as he pushed himself up.

“You're a big bully.” I huffed. “And I won’t let bullies go unpunished when I can actually do something to help,” I added.

“You little brat,” he growled. Before he got up and ran over to me. I then punched him hard in the stomach causing him to fall to the ground. I quickly turned around and ran over to the girl grabbing her hand.

“Come on we should get out go here before he gets back up,” I exclaimed. As I pulled her away with me.

“How did you do that?” she asked.

“I’m powerful… back home people are afraid of me because of that.” I replied.

“Please teach me,” she exclaimed.

“Wait... what? But your older than me… all you have to do it punch and kick.” I muttered.

“Just show me a few things,” she asked me.

“Um okay,” I muttered.
