Elementary School Flashbacks

It was Saturday, April 2, 2022, and it was in the afternoon. In the Cooper household, Sam was sitting on the living room couch while using her smartphone. Then Amore entered the living room, sat down, and spoke.

“You know, I’m coming very close to becoming a middle school student. I’m gonna graduate elementary school in only a couple of months.” “When you graduate next year, do you ever think you’re gonna miss elementary?”

“No. But now that you’ve brought it up. I probably will miss elementary school.”

“I’ve been thinking the exact same thing. I truly am gonna miss elementary when the calendar hits the month of June. Or September.”

“I totally get what you’re saying, Amore, but life moves on. We’re not gonna stay in elementary school forever.”

“True. But what I can keep the memories forever. And there were a lot of great memories I had back in elementary.”

“Yeah, me too.”

“Plus, you’re so lucky. At least you still have more than a year of elementary left.”

“Well, if you’re gonna miss elementary school so much, maybe we can both just sit here and discuss all the memories you’ve had as an elementary school student. Or we can both sit here and watch some TV. It’s your call.”

“You know what?” “Let’s just watch some TV. It’s pretty silly of me to cry over the end of something that’s supposed to end in the first place.”

Then Sam went ahead and picked up the TV remote from the living room table and turned on the TV. Sam set the TV remote back down on the living room table. Then Amore and Sam began watching some TV together. And Amore and Sam continued watching some TV together. And Amore and Sam continued watching TV together some more. Then Amore’s mind started changing about something. And Amore’s mind continued changing about something. And Amore’s mind continued changing about something some more. And Amore’s mind continued changing just a little while longer. Then her mind changed completely.

“Wait a minute! What am I saying?!” “I changed my mind.”

Sam just went ahead and sighed. Sam picked up the TV remote from the living room table and turned off the TV. Sam set the TV remote back down on the living room table. “Okay, fine. We can go ahead and revisit some of your past elementary school experiences. But I’m heading back home if you change your mind one more time.”

“Deal.”

“So, where should we start?”

“I’m not sure. Five years of memories are a lot of memories.”

“It’s six years, Amore. Not five.”

“No, there aren’t.”

“Yes, there are. It’s kindergarten plus five grades. Do the math.”

Then Amore thought about it for a quick second while using her fingers. “Oh, my bad.”

“I’ll tell you what, why don’t we start with your first-ever day of elementary school? Is there anything at all that you can remember from that day?”

Then the first flashback began.

***KINDERGARTEN FLASHBACK***

It was Amore’s first day of kindergarten back in the month of September 2016. The female teacher was ready to announce the first assignment of the new school year to the class. “Hello, everyone. Welcome to your first day of kindergarten. My name is Ms. Shepard, and I’kk be the one teaching this class for the whole school year. Now, for your first assignment, you will use the papers you currently have on your desk to draw. And you can all draw anything you want. A heart, a boat, a kangaroo, a giraffe, a dog, a circle, a square, a triangle, and so on. You may begin.” Then the entire class began drawing anything they wanted to draw. Later, the whole class continued drawing what they wanted to draw. The teacher got back in front of the class. “I just wanted to say that you all are doing a wonderful job on your drawings so far. And if you need more paper, just raise your hand and ask. Keep up the good work, everyone.” Then after the teacher stopped speaking, the students kept drawing what they wanted to draw. Later, the teacher was viewing her students’ drawings. “Nice work on that circle, Billy.” “Great job on that cat, Henry.” “Excellent work on whatever that is, Chelsea.” Ms. Shepard walked over to look at Amore’s creation. “Good job, Amore.”

“It’s a slice of pizza.”

“Well, I think that’s probably the best slice of pizza anyone has ever drew.”

“My Dad owns a pizza restaurant that he named after me.”

“Oh, that’s nice to hear.”

Then Ms. Shepard walked away from Amore as Amore continued drawing what she wanted to draw.

***KINDERGARTEN FLASHBACK***

Then Amore’s first elementary school flashback ended before Sam spoke. “Wow, that’s such a cool memory. You’ll probably be known by the whole neighborhood as the pizza restaurant owner’s daughter by the time you enter high school.” “So, is there anything else you wanna look back on?”

“Yeah, but I’m not sure what I wanna look back on.”

“How about we both look back on the day we first met?”

“Oh, yeah. That was when I was in second grade and you were in first grade.”

“And we were both at an outdoor park on a typical Saturday afternoon while that idiot sister of yours was playing tag with some of her other friends.”

“Yeah, good times.”

Then the flashback got started.

***SECOND GRADE FLASHBACK***

Back when Amore was in second grade, Ashley and some of her other friends were playing tag at a nearby outdoor park during the afternoon hours. Meanwhile, Amore was swinging on one of the swings. Ashley continued plating tag with some of her other friends. And Amore went ahead and continued swinging on one of the swings. Then Amore stopped swinging on the swing that she was sitting on. A blonde-haired girl in first grade walked up to a swing and sat on that swing next to Amore.

“Hi.”, Sam spoke.

“Hi.”, Amore spoke.

“My name is Samantha. But my friends call me Sam.” “What’s your name?”

“Amore.”

“That’s kind of a weird name.” “Have you ever thought about changing it?”

“No. I like my name the way it is.” “Is it okay with you if I just call you Sam instead?”

“Only if you wanna be my friend.”

“Okay.”

“And we also have to be friends.”

“Deal.”

“And you can’t be a lame friend.”

“Agreed.”

“Now, we’re officially friends.”

“Great!” “So, now can I call you Sam from now on?”

“Sure.”

“Okay. Hey, Sam.”

“Hi.”

Then both girls continued sitting next to each other on the swings. “The girl over there with the black hair is my big sister. She’s in sixth grade,”

“Okay.” Then both girls went ahead and continued sitting next to each other on both swings. “So, what should we do together now that we’re friends?”

“I could push you on the swing.”

“Okay.”

Then Amore went ahead and got up from the swing, walked over to her new blonde-haired friend, and got behind her new blonde-haired friend. Amore started swinging Sam. And Amore and Sam started having more fun outside along with Ashley and her friends.

***SECOND GRADE FLASHBACK***

Then Amore’s elementary school flashback ended.

“And then we eventually became best friends.”, Sam spoke.

“And we’ve been best friends ever since.”

“And we’re still best friends.”

“Best friends forever.”

“Okay, what’s our next memory gonna be?”

“I remember when I was in third grade, you were in second grade, and you tried to help me build enough bravery to talk to my new crush.”

Then Amore’s next flashback began.

***THIRD GRADE FLASHBACK***

Back when Amore was in third grade, she was at a nearby park coloring with Sam in the afternoon. Amore wasn’t looking at what she was doing and was really messing things up in her coloring book. And Amore still wasn’t completely looking at what she was doing and messing things up. Sam noticed Amore’s incorrect coloring and brought it up in a new conversation.

“Either your coloring is bad or you’ve invented a new way of coloring.”

“I can’t keep my eyes on what I’m coloring because I just can’t take my eyes off that cute boy over there.”

“Then go talk to him.”

“But I don’t feel like talking to him.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m afraid I might get rejected if I ask him to be my boyfriend. And I really want to ask him to be my boyfriend.”

“Well, you’re never gonna know whether or not he’ll like you if you never ask. All you gotta do is just get up, walk over to him, use your lips, and speak.”

“You’re right. I don’t have anything to be afraid of. I’m going to get up, walk over to him, and start a conversation right now.” Amore went ahead and got up from where she was sitting to go talk to her new crush. Amore was walking closer and closer to her new crush. Then Amore stopped walking when she was close enough to her new crush. “Hi.”

“Hi.”

“I was just wondering if. I was just wondering if you. I was thinking maybe you’d wanna. I was just wondering if you wanna. I was thinking maybe you’d.”

“Do you speak complete sentences?”

“Yes. Yes, I do. And that was two sentences already with this one being the third.”

“Well, do you wanna share my lunch with me?” “I have two PB&J sandwiches, but you can have one of mine.”

“Uh, thanks. But no thanks. I’m gonna go now.” Amore just walked away. Amore went ahead and walked back to Sam before sitting down. “I just couldn’t do it. My fear of rejection just kept telling me not to ask him to be my boyfriend. It even told me not to ask him to be my friend.”

“According to my math, if you subtract boyfriend and friend, all that’s left is stranger.”

“It even told me not to be a stranger to him.”

“But that makes absolutely no sense at all.”

“Well, it sure does make sense to my fear of being rejected. Let’s just keep coloring. And I’ll try my best to keep my eyes on what I’m doing this time.” Amore went ahead and opened her coloring book and began coloring again with Sam.

“Yeah, I doubt that you’re gonna keep your eyes where you need them to be.”

Then the third-grade flashback ended.

***THIRD GRADE FLASHBACK***

“And how about the time you first learned how annoying my big sister can be?” Amore spoke.

“I wish I was taught that lesson in elementary school.” Then another elementary school flashback began.

***THIRD GRADE FLASHBACK***

It was the spring of 2020. On a Saturday afternoon, Amore and Sam were sitting on the living room couch while watching some TV together at Amore’s house. And Amore and Sam continued sitting on the living room couch while watching TV at Amore’s house. Then Ashley (seventh grade) went ahead and came into the living room. Ashley sat down on the living room couch next to Amore and Sam. Then Ashley picked up the TV remote and changed the channel before putting the remote down. That caused Amore to speak.

“Um, hello?” “We were watching something.”

Tell me something I don’t know. Now, I’m watching something. So, I suggest you two losers beat it.”

Amore fired back, “No, I suggest you change the channel back to what I and Sam were watching and you beat it.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

Sam replied, “Hey, just because you don’t have a flat-screen TV in your room doesn’t mean you have the right to tell us when and when not to watch TV.”

“You have absolutely no idea what I got in my room, little girl. Therefore, shut up.”

“Hey! You better watch who you’re talking to!” Sam exclaimed.

Then Ashley saw Sam and spoke. “You mean watch someone who is younger than me, shorter than me, smaller than me, has less life experience than me, and most importantly is dumber than me?”

“Hey! I’m not dumb, so take it back!”

“Never in a million billion trillion years am I taking back the truth.”

“Why is your big sister such an idiot?”’

“I have absolutely no idea. Maybe Mom or Dad accidentally slammed the car door on her head when she was a baby.”

“Amore, why does your friend exist?”

“Why do you exist?” Sam fired back.

“Amore, how come you don’t choose some better friends?”

“She doesn’t need better friends. Maybe what she needs is a better sister.”

“Shut up, blondie, I’m watching TV!”

Sam told her, “This is your last warning! Change the freaking channel and leave! Now!”

“No.” “What are you gonna do about it, blondie?” Ashley continued watching TV and disrespecting Sam.

“I know exactly what I’m gonna do about it. From now on, I officially declare you my number one enemy! And I’ve never had a number one enemy before!”

“Oh, you’ve got a number one enemy now?” “Congratulations! I’m so proud of you!” “What do you want? A cookie or something?”

“I’m so sorry for my sister’s severe immaturity.”

“Come on, Amore. Let’s head somewhere else, some place where we’re not wanted and there aren’t any unwanted jerks around.”

Then Amore and Sam both exited the living room.

***THIRD GRADE FLASHBACK***

“And we’re still number one enemies ever since the day she took away our TV rights.”

“Yeah, well, let’s just go ahead and move on from my evil sibling to another elementary school memory.”

“Gladly. So, what other memories of elementary school are stored inside that brain of yours?”

“I remember that time when I was in fourth grade and you were in third grade?”

Then another flashback got started.

***FOURTH GRADE FLASHBACK***

It was the month of September 2020. During another typical Saturday afternoon, Amore and Sam were coloring at a nearby outdoor park. Then Sam went ahead and looked at Amore’s coloring book.

“Sloppy coloring? Again?”

“What?” “Maybe I like coloring sloppily instead of neatly.”

“Look, Amore, I think this has gone on for long enough. Now, you need to start being brave. Just walk up to him and tell him that you’re in like.”

Amore just sighed before putting her crayon down. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I’m guess I’m just gonna have to go ahead and try this talking thing again.” Amore went ahead and got up from where she was sitting. Then Amore began walking closer and closer to her crush. And Amore got close enough to her crush to start another conversation with him. “Look, I’m not sure if you remember me. But I have something very important that I wanna tell you.”

“I like you.”

“I like you.” “Wait, you do?!”

“Of course, I do, I see you hang out around here every Saturday. In fact, you’re the main reason why I come here every week in the first place.”

“I like you too!” You’re the reason I why I hang out around here every week.”

“My name is Jacob, by the way. But my friends call me Jake.” “What’s your name?”

“Amore.”

“Cool name.”

“Thanks.”, she spoke with a smile. “So, do you think I’m prettier than my BFF over there?”

“Honestly, I do think that. You’re truly the cutest girl I’ve ever laid eyes on.”

“Thanks.”, she spoke with a smile. “So, do you wanna hang out together?”

“Sure. We can start by sharing my lunch. Here, have a seat.”

Amore went ahead and did what Jake said and sat down next to him. Jake gave Amore one of his two tuna fish sandwiches. Then Jake and Amore started eating together. And Amore’s fear was defeated.

***FOURTH GRADE FLASHBACK***

“And then we became lovers ever since.”, she spoke with a smile.

“And I’m obviously the prettier one.”

“In your dreams. That’s why he chose me and not you.” “I also remember my final year of elementary school when I changed the way Amore does business forever.”

Then another flashback got started.

***FIFTH GRADE FLASHBACK***

“Well, if the change isn’t gonna happen overnight, when will it happen?” Ashley asked him.

“At least three weeks.”, John replied.

“Okay, I guess I can live with that.”, Amore added.

“Okay, well, you girls can all go back to doing whatever it was that you were doing.”, John declared.

Then all four girls exited the living room.

Donna commented, “First, the restaurant gets its name from her. And now, she’s upgraded to making marketing decisions nine years later? Honey, I think we may have a future pizza restaurant owner in our household fully ready to take your place after you retire.”

“Yeah, you might be right. And I’m feeling so happy right now that the whole family should celebrate this new and upcoming change to the Amore menu in the best way possible. And I’ve got the perfect idea.”

***

It was Monday, October 4, 2021. It was evening, and the sky was completely dark outside. Inside the restaurant, Lover by Taylor Swift was playing in the background. Meanwhile, Amore and her family were eating dinner to celebrate the new change that was put in place.

“Wow, I gotta say, Amore’s new boneless wings sure are the bomb.”, Ashley commented while eating.

“Yeah, and these new breadsticks with dipping sauce are to die for.”, Amore replied while eating.

“Hey, don’t forget the most important thing of all. Pizza.”, Rebecca spoke while eating pizza.

“I’m also starting to fall in love with this new pink lemonade this place is now selling.”, Ashley spoke before drinking.

“And for dessert, we’re all having cake. More specifically, strawberry cake.”, Donna informed.

“This place is even selling desserts now?! Am I hearing this right?! Did I just die and go to heaven?!” Amore exclaimed happily.

“You really came through for me, kid. And it was a very successful day today with the new change.”, John commented.

“Hey, Amore, this is your song.”, Rebecca told Amore.

“And how, exactly, is a random Taylor Swift song my song?” Amore asked her.

“Because amore is the Italian word for love.”

That’s why I, and your mom, decided to name you Amore in the first place. Then I named this place after you, and you’ve done nothing but show what love is truly about these last ten years.”

“I love you too, Dad. Well, I say we do less chatting and more digging in while we’re still young.” Then, after all of that, the whole family did less chatting and continued eating and celebrating the change that happened at the restaurant. And finally, after nine long years, Amore (restaurant) now had much more to offer besides pizza.

***FIFTH GRADE FLASHBACK***

Ashley entered the living room. “What on Earth are you two talking about?”

“None of your beeswax, monkey!” Sam insulted.

“I don’t care, gorilla!”

Ashley went ahead and sat down on the living room couch. Ashley picked up the TV remote and turned on the TV. Then Ashley set the remote back down and began watching TV before Amore spoke.

“Ash, we kinda don’t want you in here right now. Both of us were talking about my past experiences during elementary school since I’m gonna be graduating elementary in only a couple of months.”

“Yeah, so beat it!”

“Hey, blondie, you don’t have to take that tone with me.” Ashley continued watching TV and treating both girls like garbage.

“Well, would you like to hear us discuss the time you and Sam first became enemies?”

“I prefer you two shut up. And I also prefer you two leave. Both of you are really starting to annoy me right now.”

“But do you still remember?” Amore asked Ashley.

“Of course, I still remember. That was a long, long time ago. And ever since that day, I still hate Sam’s guts.”

“I hate your bones!” Sam came back.

“I hate your hair color!”

“I hate your hair color!”

“I hate your hair in general!”

“I hate your hair in general!”

“I hate your attitude!”

“I hate your attitude!”

“I hate!”

“Hey! Are you two ever gonna learn how to get along?!”

“Who? Us?” Ashley questioned.

“Never in a million years, but thanks for playing.”

And after that, Ashley and Sam began verbally arguing with each other. And Ashley and Sam continued arguing with each other. And Ashley and Sam continued arguing with each other some more. And as Amore heard all of the arguing going on between Ashley and Sam, Amore just shook her head, got up from the living room couch, and exited the living room. Then both girls continued arguing. And both girls continued arguing some more. And all the flashbacks were officially over.
