Chapter Seven

“Nadia!” Richard yelled looking for his wife.

Nadia emerged from the room she was in to greet him. “What is it Richard?”

“James and I are going out to the vineyard today. Wanna come?”

“What the hell is wrong with you woman? You say I never take you anywhere anymore. Well I’m offering to take you on a vineyard tour.”

“You know what I was talking about, Richard. I wanna go to our vineyard in France, not to our vineyard up the street.”

“A dreamer. Just like Owen,” Richard said smirking. “What the hell is that boy up to anyway? It’s about time he started learning about the business.”

“Why? James is your heir. Not Owen.”

“Only because James is the oldest. Owen needs to have a sense of business about him as well. Shit, if anything happens to James, it all goes to him. Don’t you think he should learn something?”

“No. Owen is different. His album came out a few weeks ago. Did you know that?”

“Music? Who gives a shit about that?”

“Owen does.”

“You two are so alike I can hardly stand it.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

Richard turned his back on his wife. “It means…Nothing. Never mind.”

“If you’re going to the vineyard, I think you should get going.”

“Yeah,” Richard said and then turned back to Nadia. “I won’t be home tonight.”

“Are you ever?”

“And that means what?”

“I didn’t think so,” Richard said turning and calling up the stairs. “James! Come on son, let’s go!”

“Take a shower before you come home tomorrow,” Nadia said quietly. “I don’t wanna smell that bitch’s perfume in my bed anymore.”

Richard turned and pointed his finger in Nadia’s face. “You are so lucky you are the mother of my children. You don’t really get it do you?”

“Get your ass out of here, Richard,” Nadia said slapping his finger from her face.

Not long after father and son left on their adventure, Nadia’s favorite boy called her.

“Hello mother.”

She smiled at the sound of his voice and asked, “Owen baby, how are you?”

“I’m fine, and you?”

“I live only for you baby you know that.”

“Mother, I wanna talk to you about something, and you have to promise you won’t tell father.”

“My word is gold.”

“Okay. Well, I have a girl.”

“Owen that’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you!”

“Thank you, mother. But there is a problem.”

“She’s not pregnant is she?”

Owen chuckled. “No, nothing like that. That would be easy.”

“I’m listening.”

“She wants to meet you.”

“I’m having a party next weekend honey. Bring her up.”

“Not that easy,” Owen said shaking his head. “Dad is going to have a fit.”

“Why? What’s wrong with her?”

“She’s Puerto Rican.”

“I love her mother. Isn’t that all that really counts?”

“I suppose darling, but you can’t bring her here.”

“Mother please, it will only be once.”

“Owen, I understand you love this woman, but-”

“Please, mother?”

“I tell you what, why don’t I have all of you for lunch at our house by the lake.”

“That will be wonderful, when?”

“I don’t know dear. I would rather wait until your father and brother are out of town.”

“Well, when is that going to be?”

“Hold on let me go into his office and check his appointments. In the meantime, what is her name?”

“Nice name.”

“Mother, she’s really a beautiful woman. She’s so different than all of the other girls you tried to hook me up with.”

“Well you know we have appearances to keep up. A beautiful wealthy girl would be best for you.”

“Mother, all they care about is how much money I stand to inherit. They don’t care about me at all.”

“Yvonne was perfect for you honey. She loves music.”

“Mother, I’m not going into that right now. I want you to meet Desi.”

“Okay, then. How about three weeks. Your father and brother are going to France, and they will be gone for a week.”

“That’s wonderful. Will you take care of the details for me?”

“Certainly honey.”

Nadia and Owen worked out the details of the music and the food.

“Did anyone ever tell you that you were the best?” Owen asked.

“Funny. I had a little boy tell me that once. He’s since forgotten.”

“No I haven’t. Thanks, mother.”

“You’re welcome, honey. I will keep this a secret, and I look forward to meeting Desiree.”

“Can I ask another favor?”

“Yes darling what is it?”

“Can we invite Isaias’ mother?”

“Charlotte is welcome anytime.” Nadia looked at her watch. “Hey honey, I have a spa appointment. I have to get going.”

“I love you, mother.”

“I love you too, Owen. Looking forward to seeing you.”

Nadia hung up the phone, and immediately got going on her plans for her son and his girl.
