Small Town Girl with Big City Dreams. Dallas Miller, a freshman from Shiner, Texas comes to the University of Oklahoma with her best friend Stoneigh Baker. Will they get the positions they want or wi "Today, we welcome two new girls to our family. This is Dallas Miller and Stoneigh Baker. They are from a small town in Texas and I want you all to be nice to them and show them how things go around here." Coach Penelope Greene divulges to the team. All the girls begin to cheer and clap as we move closer. "Y'alls jersey is in your lockers." We both look back at her and smile. Coach Green walks out and the girls clear away as we walk to our lockers. I see a big glittery fourteen in red on my locker and smile. I set my bag down and turn around to talk to Stoneigh when Molina Carr steps in front of me. "Look, Miller, you will never be the pitcher for this team. I will be the only pitcher this team will see or ever need in the next three years." Molina informs me. I scoff and roll my eyes. Molina steps closer to me and I cross my arms, casually grazing her small chest. I look at the two girls behind her and then back at her. "We can have you riding the bench in a heartbeat, so I dare you to try us." They walk away from me and I look at Stoneigh and chuckle a little as she tries to hold back a smile.

Chapter 1

“Got a girl from the south side, got braids in her hair

First time I seen her walk by, man I ’bout fell off my chair

Had to get her number, it took me like six weeks

Now me and her go way back like Cadillac seats....”

My radio, in my now empty room, blares. I grab the last of my clothes and shove them into my teal Nike duffle bag. I zip up my bag and throw it over my shoulder as I walk over to my radio. I grab my phone, turn off the music, and unplug my charger. I slide my phone into my back pocket as Stoneigh walks in. I look at her and she flashes me a big smile as she tries to contain her excitement.

“Our parents are waiting for us downstairs.” Stoneigh states as she looks around my empty room.

“Alright, let’s go,” I say as I walk past her. I make it to the stairs when I slowly hear my door close. I turn my head a little and look out the corner of my eye to see Stoneigh walking towards the stairs. “Our last time going down them until winter break.”

Stoneigh sighs and chuckles a little. Stoneigh steps beside me and we walk down the stairs. As we make it to the bottom we see our parents taking pictures. I just blankly stare at them as we touch down on the hardwood floor. Our moms put down their phones and pull us into a hug. We both groan as we try to push them away.

“Y’all stop struggling and let us hold our babies one last time.” My mom forces out as she squeezes harder. I look at my dad and he smiles and shrugs at me as if he couldn’t control her. My mom lets go of me and kisses my cheek. “My sweet baby is off to her dream college.”

I smile and back away from her as Stoneigh steps away from Steph. Bob, Stoneigh’s dad, looks at his watch and then at us. “If y’all want to get to Norman by two, y’all should get going.”

We both nod and walk around our moms. We give our dads a quick hug and then we start walking to the door. “Bye, love you guys!” Stoneigh and I both yell.

The drive to Oklahoma was long and uneventful. As we registered and made it to our dorm rooms, we began to notice that this whole entire dorm consisted of athletes and band. I find it odd how it’s that way but change is good. Stoneigh got roomed with some girl named Meena and I got a girl named Macon. Neither one of them were in the rooms when we got all of our stuff in there. I sorted all of my stuff out and put everything away when Stoneigh barges into my room with a big smile on her face.

“Why are you smiling so much?” I get a little curious as she tries to hold back her eagerness.

“Well I just got invited to a big party tonight and I want you to come with me.” I scoff and sit on my bed. Stoneigh knows I don’t do parties. I raise my eyebrows and wait for her to continue. “Please go, it’ll be our first college party together and you don’t have to drink if you don’t want to.”

I stare at her and she starts giving me her signature puppy dog eyes. I look away from her and I hear her shuffle closer to me. I turn my head towards her and she's inches away from my face.

“Pwease?!” I sigh and push her away from me. “Come on, when classes start up you’re going to be busy studying and pitching, so you’re not going to be able to party.”

“Fine, this one time and that’s it.” Stoneigh starts jumping up and down in glee and I lightly chuckle at her behavior. “How long do I have until I need to be ready?”

“You have about an hour or so.” I sigh and stand up. “Wear something cute, please.”

I roll my eyes and walk over to my closet and start skimming through my clothes. “I’ll be back in about twenty minutes.” I make an inhumane sound and she giggles and walks out. I grab a maroon crop top with the number eight on it and a pair of high waisted shorts. I throw them on the bed and then squat down and grab my gladiator sandals.

A light knock comes from the door and I stand up and turn around to see a guy who towers over me. I raise an eyebrow at him and he flashes me a small grin. I notice he’s in black jeans with a white Nike shirt, showing off his muscular features and a couple of his tattoos.

“Can I help you?” I cross my arms over my chest and lean to my right a little. He moves a little closer to me and I shift my weight once more. “Like I asked, can I help you?”

“I’m looking for Macon, but you’re not her...sadly...but anyways, I should go.” He turns around and starts walking out of the room.

“Wait, what’s your name?” I unfold my arms and step forward as he turns around to look at me. He flashes his bright blue eyes at me and I casually look away. I hope there aren’t many God-like creatures here...they will be the death of me.

“Name’s Matt and yours?”

I open my mouth as soon as a blonde girl, a little bit taller than me, wraps herself around Matt, causing him to give all his attention to her. I’m assuming she is Macon, hopefully. “My names Dallas.”

They snap out of their little daze and look over at me and I smirk. “Wait, you’re my roommate?” Macon asks.

I nod and she smiles. “I am glad you’re not ugly because I wouldn’t hear the end of it.” I lightly smile as she looks back at Matt. “We should head over to Brent’s house, you know to help him set up...”

Matt nods and then looks at the both of us. “See you later, Texas!” Matt yells as he walks out the room with Macon in tow. I roll my eyes and go shut the door.

I start walking back to my bed and taking off my clothes. I grab my clothes off the bed and put them on and throw my hair up into a messy bun. I slide my sandals on as I walk over to my closet mirror. I smooth out my crop top that barely reaches over my belly button. My dangling belly button rings sparkles as the light hits it, making me smile. I grab my vanilla perfume and sprits it on my body and then I put on an extra layer of deodorant. I assess my look one last time as Stoneigh walks into my room. I turn around and look at her and she smiles and sits on my bed.

“You look cute.” I roll my eyes at Stoneigh and she frowns. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t like compliments remember?” She nods and pulls out her phone. I grab my keys and grab my phone. “I am going to go to the lounge and get a water.”

I leave the room and start walking down the hallway when I collide with something. I stumble backwards and I look up and see another God like guy standing in front of me. I let my mouth drop a little as he stares at me curiously. “I am s-sorry.” I stammer. A grin spreads across his face and I step back as someone else bumps into him causing his drink to spill down the front of my body.

His grin fades as he turns around and shoves the guy who bumped into him. I look down at my body and I go to turn around. A hand grabs my wrist and I stop and look at him.

“I am so sorry. Let get you some new clothes...” I freeze as his voice sends chills down my spine. I begin to take in what I am looking at. His arms are snaked with tattoos and so is his neck. His jet black hair parted to one side. “Hello...” he waves his free hand in front of my face and I snap out of my daze.

“It’s fine...I can just go change...it’s no big deal.” He lets go of me and I back up a little more and he awkwardly smiles.

“Can I get your name?” I look around and then stop as I reach his eyes.

“Uh, it’s uh, Dallas.” His eyes light up and I stand there awkwardly waiting for his reply.

“So you’re the state that Matt was talking about.” I snort and turn away to go back to my dorm. “My name’s is Eli, by the way, in case you wanted to know.”

I ignore him as I walk back into my dorm. Stoneigh looks at me and her eyes get wide. “What happened?!” She rushes to me and looks me up and down.

“Um, a guy spilled his drink on me so now I have to change...” I explain and she holds back a smile. I roll my eyes and walk over to my closet and grab the first shirt I see. I take my current shirt off and put on the black shirt that covers my shorts. I turn to Stoneigh and she gives me a thumbs up. “His name is Eli.”

“Ooh sounds sexy.” I snort and roll my eyes at her.

“He is very sexy but way out of my league.” Stoneigh sighs and walks over to the door. “Where are you going?”

“Going to find the self-confidence my best friend dropped somewhere, I mean, you could have any guy in the world but you choose to be all gloomy and dark about your love life aft-” I glare at her as she tries to bring up the worst thing that could ever happen to me. Stoneigh backs down and I walk to her. “We should go drive around or something.”

I nod slowly and she smiles at me.

After driving around for what feels like a whole day, we finally decide to drop by the party. Stoneigh drags me to the back and pushes me into a sea of people. I begin to feel a little claustrophobic so I make my way to the back of the property. I see a small tree house up in a tree and begin to get curious. I see the ladder in the dim light coming from the house. I climb up the ladder and go through the small doorway to find a black figure off in the corner.

I step forward. “Hello?” The dark figure steps into the light. I raise an eyebrow as I realized its Eli. “Why are you up here alone?”

He slightly shrugs and looks out the window. “I am hiding from a girl...she thinks I like her or that I just want to have sex with her but I really don’t.”

“Oh...I guess I should go.” He looks at me. “Or not...”

“You can stay...just don’t make a lot of noise.” I nod and pull out my phone and turn on the flashlight. I scan the small area and see a chair. I walk over to it and plant my ass in it. “So Dallas, why are you here if you’re just going to be hiding out?”

I turn off my flashlight and look over at him as he sits on the floor of the tree house.

“Bad experience...at parties...” I look out the window at the party as it thrives. “And plus I have a thing for tree houses.”

He snorts at me and I lightly chuckle. I close my eyes and begin to focus on the music.

"The way she fit in them blue jeans, she don’t need no belt

But I can turn them inside out, I don’t need no help

Got hips like honey, so thick and so sweet

It ain’t no curves like hers on them downtown streets!"

I start humming along to the song as I sway my head to the music getting lost in the words. I open my eyes to see Eli smiling at me.

“Why are you smiling at me?”

“Because you’re over there entertaining yourself.” I laugh a little and then we hear footsteps coming near the tree. We go completely silent, letting few breaths slip through.

“Eli, I know you are up there...come down!” I look over at him and he rolls his eyes. I get up from the chair and walk over to the little door and climb back out of the tree house.

The girl looks at me and her eyes go wide. “Sorry, there isn’t an Eli up there...I, Dallas, was the only one up there.” She crosses her arms and glares at me.

“MOLINA!” We hear a guy yell from the distance causing her to turn away and walk towards the house.

I can’t believe I am going to have to compete with her for the starting position for pitcher. She’s such a bitch and not like Stoneigh’s type of bitch but like a bitch who will do anything to get her way. I can’t stand people like her. I cross my arms as I walk into the crowd of people, getting lost into the night.
