Chapter 14

“There’s a surprise for you in your room” Jason pulled up to the main entrance of our building. “You’re not coming up?” I asked. He shook his head “No, I have a few errands to run before I take you out tonight” He looked excited and it made me smile. “This isn’t necessary, you know? I’m a simple girl. A movie and dinner at home would have been more than enough. And cuddling afterwards, of course”

“Of course” he chuckled. “We’re on a schedule, so, I want to make the best of our time together”

He hates this arrangement, can’t say that I love it, but it does work to my advantage.

“I understand, baby” I snaked my fingers into his hair and pulled him in for a deep kiss. I moaned into it when his tongue slipped between my lips and massaged my tongue. He tasted sweet, and I craved more of him. He pulled away first and nodded to the front door. “Go, before I take you here and now” his voice was low, dangerous and sexy. “I’m ok with that” I went in for another kiss which he gave happily. “Go, baby” he groaned when my fingertips skimmed up his inner thigh. I smiled against his lips, gave him a quick peck and opened my door to exit. “I’ll see you soon?” he only nodded and blew me a kiss.

“Hello, Miss Skye. How was your day?”

“Hi, Jeffrey” I greeted and walked closer to him “My day was great, thank you. How was yours?” I asked leaning against the raised counter of his desk. “Well, thank you” he smiled. “Mr King has something special arranged for the two of you tonight. You must be excited?” I tilted my head to the side, a small smirk on my lips “He told you?”

“He did. He also apologized for not greeting me more warmly this morning. I believe that was your doing?” he raised a brow and chuckled. “He was rude. I’m glad he apologized” I stood straight. “Well I appreciate what you did, but it’s my job to look after the tenants and their homes. They don’t need to be friendly with me, they just need to trust me”

“I don’t agree. If I can trust you, I can be friendly with you too” I crossed my arms.

“Mr King told me you were,” he broke eye contact looking for the word Jason had used to describe me “feisty.” He laughed. I joined him in the laughter. That would be the word he would use to describe my stubbornness. “I should get upstairs. It was nice chatting”

“Pleasure was all mine, Miss Skye”

I let myself in and slipped off my shoes. I tossed my bag on the kitchen island and helped myself to a bottle of water from the fridge. The loft was quiet and I wondered where Josh was. I reached for my phone in my bag and called him.

“Hey, sweetheart”

“Hey babe, are you still at the college?”

“Yeah,” he sighed heavily “I have a lot of work to do. What are you up to?”

“Just got home” I picked up my bag and walked toward my room. I turned the knob and entered, instantly I noticed the black box on my bed, a deep purple bow wrapped expertly around it. “What time will you be home?” I sat on my bed and reached for the small card tucked underneath the bow.

“Late. Jason told me he had quite the night planned for you” he forced a playful tone.

“It’s just dinner, at least that’s all he told me” I played with the edge of the card.

“Yeah, dinner” his dark chuckle made a shiver run down my spine. “I should get back to work, sweetheart. Have fun”

“Uhh, yeah. Ok” I sighed.

“What’s wrong?” I bit my lip. What wasn’t wrong?

“I’m hurting you, I don’t want to hurt you. I never want to hurt you, Josh”

“Oh, babe” he whispered. “It’s ok. We all need to make adjustments and sacrifices. It’s the beginning, we all knew this was going to be hard in the beginning. I’m sorry I made you feel bad. Jason didn’t do this with you yesterday when it was our time together, I shouldn’t do it on his day. Go have fun and I’ll see you tomorrow. I love you, babe”

“I love you too” the line ended and I tossed my phone next to the box. I looked down at the card in my hand and the corners of my mouth lifted slightly.

For my love, my best friend and one day, my wife.

I pulled the edge of the satin material and the bow tumbled apart in the middle. I pulled the material away from the box and lifted the edge to take the top off. Inside, silver paper formed a barrier to the gift inside. I pushed it away softly and revealed a stunning white, satin dress. I pulled it from the box, it draped down to the floor and I stood placing it against my body. It was backless with delicate ribbons that went around my neck. I placed it on the bed and reached for the box when my eye caught a black, velvet box inside. I opened it slowly and gasped. A beautiful diamond bracelet lay snugly inside and I ran my fingertips over the precious gems tenderly. I placed everything on the bed and took a step back.

He really loved me, didn’t he?

A smile tugged on my lips and I practically skipped to the bathroom to take a shower.

After a nice hot shower, I towel dried my hair and threw it up in a messy bun. I picked out a vanilla lotion and massaged it into every inch of my body. Slipping on my robe, I set off to do my hair and makeup. Soft waves danced along my waist length hair, soft pinks kissed my cheeks and lips and a dark rose adorned my eyes. Happy with my work I began to pick out a pair of shoes that would complement my dress and a small clutch to match. I picked up the dress from my bed and slipped it on slowly, the soft material caressed my legs, hips and stomach. The delicate touch against my chest had my nipples swell and become visible through the fabric. I sat on the edge of the bed and slipped on my shoes and placed a few things in my clutch. I picked up the bracelet and walked toward my mirror.

“You look amazing, my love” I turned to look toward my bedroom door. There stood Jason in a stunning three piece suit. He took long strides and placed his hands on my hips when he reached me, lowering his head, his lips brushing against my shoulder. “So beautiful” he pressed his soft lips against my exposed skin. “Thank you, baby” I turned my head and eyed his lips. I leaned in and captured them with a lingering kiss. “You look quite handsome yourself” He smiled and kissed my cheek tenderly before taking the bracelet from my hand. “Let me” I turned to face him and placed my palm in the middle of his chest. He wound the bracelet on my small wrist and secured it with the tiny latch. “It’s amazing, thank you”

“Nothing but the best for my love”

He offered me his arm and I took it instantly. He led me out of the loft and to the main entrance where a town car waited for our arrival. He helped me in and slid in next to me. We sipped on champagne and stole kisses all the way to the restaurant. When we arrived he helped me out and wrapped his arm around my waist. He tipped the doorman generously as he bowed his greeting and opened the door for us.

“Mr and Mrs King, so nice to see you. Please, this way” The hostess chirped.

“Mr and Mrs King? I whispered leaning into Jason.

“Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?” he kissed my temple.

“It does” I stroked his cheek just before we stopped at our table. Jason pulled my chair out before settling in his own. He ordered a bottle of red wine and sent the hostess on her way. “This is all so,” I looked around it pure fascination of the beautiful decor and posh furniture. “wow” I smiled a silly smile. Jason chuckled deeply and opened up his hand for me to take on the table. I held them firmly and looked into his hypnotic hazel orbs.

“I love you so much, Skye”

“I love you too, Jason” I whispered, squeezing his hands.

“I just want us to be happy”

“Are you not happy?” I asked.

“Are you?”

“Yes” I spoke firmly “I’m very happy”

“With this whole situation? With being with both myself and him”

I took a deep breath and released his hands along with my breath. I sat back in my chair, the hostess couldn’t have picked a better time to bring the wine. I took a generous sip and placed it down on the table gently. “I’m trying to make this work. It was the both of your decision, not mine. If it were up to me it would be just-”

“May I take your orders?”

“Steak, medium for me. Salmon for her” Jason waved her off.

“Just what, Skye?”

“Forget it. I don’t want to ruin tonight” I shook my head and picked up my wine glass again.

“Tell me. Now. If it were up to you, it would just, what?” his tone had finality in it. He wanted an answer and I would give it to him.

I pulled a sip from the glass and swirled the dark liquid around “Be us” I placed the glass down and stroked the stem with feather-like touches. “If it were up to me, it would just be us, Jason” I looked up just in time to see his hazel eyes darken at my words.
