“Good Afternoon, Miss Skye. How was your day?”
“It’s was fine, thank you. How has your day been?” I leaned on Jeffrey’s counter.
“Very well, thank you” he beamed. I smiled a genuine smile in what felt like a really long time.
“I’m glad to hear it. You brighten my day, Jeffrey, thank you for that” I walked towards the elevators and chuckled when I noticed Jeffrey blush.
“Thank you, Miss Skye” he chuckled slightly under his breath.
I waved as the doors closed and he waved back. I walked to the front door and let myself in, today had been an exceptionally long one. I had so much work ahead of me so I opted to order take out for us tonight. I needed every minute of the night to study. An hour and a half in and my phone rang, I picked it up from the night table and gazed down at the caller ID.
“Hi pumpkin, how have you been?”
“Busy.” I sighed “College is hard”
“But you’re a smart girl and you’ll do just fine. Work hard but be sure to take breaks or you’ll burn yourself out, ok?”
“I will, I promise” I smiled. “How’s work?”
“Good, really good. I was actually calling to see if you and Josh are free tomorrow for dinner? We just finished a very profitable job and I wanted to celebrate it with my kids”
“That’s awesome, Dad! Umm, I’m free so just let me know when and where. Josh has been really busy so I’m not sure what his schedule looks like. I’ll talk to him though and get back to you”
“I’m not taking no for an answer so tell him he better be there” he chuckled and I smiled. I had no idea if Josh wanted to be in the same room with me, let alone act like we were happy and in love. “I’ll text you the info in a few minutes, I just have to call the restaurant and make the reservations. Love you kiddo”
“Love you too, Dad” I dropped my phone next to me on the bed and leaned against the headboard. What if Josh refuses to go? How will I explain his absence to my Dad? Sighing heavily I started a new text message to Josh.
Skye: Hi Josh, sorry to bother you but Dad would like to take us out for dinner tomorrow. Are you free?
I waited, staring at my phone for any indication that he’s read the message or if he will respond to it. After five minutes, I gave up and cleared my mind to focus it back on my school work. I was startled awake by a bang, rubbing my eyes I moved my books to the side and scrambled out of bed. Jason sheepishly smiles at me as he hauls in a few boxes.
“Sorry, love, did I wake you?”
“It’s ok, I must have passed out while studying. Can I help?” I walked over to him.
“No, they’re quite heavy but I got them. Go sleep” he leans in and kisses my forehead. I revel in the warmth of his lips against my forehead and fight the frown when he backs away too quickly. I say goodnight and head back to my room. I cleaned off my bed and snuggled into the blankets, it took only a beat for me to fall under a deep sleep once again.
When I woke the next morning I instantly reached for my phone, I was highly disappointed when there was no response from Josh. Rubbing the sleep and disappointment from my face, I scrambled out of bed and went for a nice, long, hot shower. Forty-Five minutes later, I was at the kitchen island, toast and coffee in hand.
“Good Morning” Jason glided into the kitchen in a slate suit and crisp white shirt.
“You look good” I stared unashamedly.
“You know,” he leaned in close, his chest radiating warmth along my back. “when you look at me like that, I just want to ravish you” the tip of his tongue flicks my ear lobe and sucks it in between his plump lips. I shiver, closing my eyes and leaning into him as a silent plea for more. His strong arms wrap around my small frame, my small hands placed on top of his large ones. “I want to forgive you, love. I want to forgive you so that things can get better, so that I can make love to you, flirt with you, tease you,” he trailed kisses down my neck. “but, I’m afraid.” He sighs and nuzzles into my neck. I reach behind me and sink my fingers into his hair. “Tell me what I have to do to make you love me like you used to” I whispered. Turning me around, he lifted me by my waist and placed me on the island. His hands roamed my thighs until he secured them around his waist. “I haven’t stopped loving you, Skye”
“I know, but you can’t say you love me the same way you did before” I played with the hair at the nape of his neck. “The trust is gone, but, I want to get it back. Just tell me what to do”
He watched me, my expression, my body language. He was looking for something to tell him I was lying, manipulating, deceiving him. But as his features softened, he saw I was genuinely wanting to fix this. I wanted him, needed him back in my life. “Tell me you love me” he leaned in and brushed his lips with mine. “I love you, Jason. I love you more than anything” I held him close by cupping his face in my hands. The feeling of his hands rubbing my thighs as our breath mingled to our close proximity had my nerves on edge. I wanted so badly to close the gap, to kiss him deeply and show him just how much I missed him; loved him. “You’ll be late for school” he mumbled, nipping at my bottom lip. Sighing, and feeling ultimately defeated, I nodded my head. “Yeah, I should go” I whispered, untangling my legs from around his waist. I averted my eyes to the ground, I was afraid if I looked at him, I would cry. I sat there quietly, waiting for him to step back so I could slide off the island, but he didn’t budge. He cupped my face in his large hands and lifted my head up “I love you, never forget that” was whispered so tenderly before he slammed his lips to mine. My fingers reached out for the lapels of his suit and I yanked him close while he fist my hair in his hands. We kissed hungrily and I begged for it not to end too quickly. I wrapped my legs around his waist and held him in place, while his hands gripped my waist roughly. He pulled away unexpectedly and I whimpered. Groaning he buried his face in my neck, kissing and sucking the skin. “Jason” I moaned. Pulling away he cupped my face and kissed me hard “You’re so fucking addicting,” he grunted. “c’mon, time for school” he removed himself and I instantly shivered from the loss of his heat. I slide off the island and fixed my appearance. I reined in my hurt and wild feelings before grabbing my things and fishing my keys out of the bowl.
“Love, wait!” Jason hollered as he exited his room. “I’ll take you” his arm wrapped around my waist and he leaned down and kissed the tip of my nose. He opened the door for me and made sure it was locked securely behind us before taking my hand firmly in his.
“Good Morning, Mr King, Miss Skye” Jeffrey nodded with a smile.
“Good Morning” we spoke together, smiling.
Jason released my hand only to open the passenger door for me “My lady” he winked with a slight bow. A light laughter fluttered between my lips before I thanked him. Just before I was ready to sink into my seat, Jason spun me around and trapped me against the car. His lips were on mine in an instant. It took me only a second to reciprocate and I was kissing him feverishly. “I"ll pick you up at lunch” it wasn’t a request, it was a demand. I nodded as my voice failed me in that moment. With a smirk, he slapped my ass and nodded for me to get in the car. Once settled, he dipped inside and kissed me before closing the door and making his way around to the driver’s side. We backed out of the parking lot and molded in with the morning traffic.
Jason took my hand and kissed each knuckle as he drove, I couldn’t help but to watch him. His soft lips pursing so slightly to melt against my skin. The touch was feather light but the emotion was heavy in my heart. “I love you” he turned to face me, a small smile gracing his beautiful features. “I love you too”. The rest of the drive was quiet, Jason continued to kiss my hand and played with my fingers. The small yet sweet gesture had butterflies swirl violently in my stomach. “I’ll see you in a couple of hours, ok?” he smiled after pulling into the school parking lot. “Can’t wait” I bit my lip, my eyes flicking between his eyes and his sweet mouth. He smiled and leaned in, brushing his lips to mine while his hand cupped the back of my neck. “Don’t be scared to kiss me, I’ll never deny you” the instant he said those words, my lips were on his. I craved to kiss him. When we finally pulled away, I cursed and said a quick goodbye, I only had two minutes before class started. I hopped out of the Rover, blew Jason a kiss and all but sprinted to the lecture hall. I plopped into my seat with a huff and dug out my books.
“Cutting in close, no?” Laura chuckled.
“I just made up with my boyfriend, the fact I’m here at all shows great restraint on my part” I winked.
“If I was dating the hottie in the Rover, I would not be here. Great restraint? Try insanity!” she teased. I bumped shoulders with her and we laughed together until the Professor showed up. We sobered up quickly when we both received a raised brow and pursed lips. The rest of the class was spent paying attention and not allowing my thoughts to float away on me.
Twenty minutes left of class and I was anxious. I couldn’t sit still in my seat and my heart was hammering in my chest. I just wanted to get out of here and see Jason. When the Professor finally kicked us out, I was trapped in a sea of fellow students. With excuse me and pardon me I pushed through the crowd and out the lecture doors. With quick steps I made it to the parking lot where my eyes flickered to find the Rover. It was nowhere in sight. Biting my lip I refused to think he stood me up, sometimes he was late. My phone vibrated in my bag and I fished it out, it had to be Jason letting me know he’s on his way.
To my slight disappointment, it was my father.
“Hi, Dad” I answered.
“Hi honey, hope I’m not interrupting you?”
“Not at all, it’s actually good timing, just got out of class” I chewed on my lip as I looked around for Jason.
“Oh good. I just wanted to call and confirm dinner tonight. It’s at The Terrace, eight o’clock”
“Oh! Yeah, I’ll be there, Dad”
“What about Josh?”
“I fell asleep last night and didn’t get a chance to ask him. Then this morning he had to leave early for a meeting”
“Is everything alright, Skye?”
“Yeah, of course” I rushed out.
“You know you can come to me with anything, right?” he sounded so worried and I internally kicked myself.
“I know, Daddy. Just distracted with school is all, sorry to make you worry.”
“Ok, sweetie. See you at eight” he sighed.
A horn to my left caught my attention, I could see Jason in the driver’s seat smiling at me, when he came to a stop, I opened the passenger door and hopped in. “I thought you forgot about me” I chuckled nervously. “Sorry baby, I was running late. I would never leave you stranded” he took my hand and kissed my palm. I smiled at him and reached for my seat belt “Where to?” I asked once buckled in. “Deli down the street ok?” I nodded and leaned in to give him a quick kiss. When we were on the main street he squeezed my knee and peeked at me from the side of his eye.
“Who were you talking to on the phone?” his voice was calm but I knew Jason well, he was suspicious and was fishing for answers.
“My dad, he made dinner plans for Josh and I” I bit my lip.
“Hmm” he nodded and pulled up in front of the deli and killed the engine. “Have you been a good girl, love?” he angled his body to face me.
“Yes” I whispered confused.
“Your father thinks you’re happy, healthy and well taken care of?”
“I am happy, healthy and well taken care of” I answered with furrowed brows.
“Skye” his tone deep and slightly impatient.
“He knows nothing, Jason, I promise”
“Good. I would hate to take him away from you” he opened his door and slide out, his expression calm as if he never threatened me. He opened my door and offered me his hand. I took it and let him help me out. Closing the door, he wrapped his arm around my waist, kissed my temple and ushered me inside the deli.
At the end of the day I felt numb. Josh wasn’t returning my texts and Jason went from forgiving and loving to his old possessive and threating ways. I didn’t know what to do and the thought hurt my heart. Before meeting Jason in the parking lot so he could take me home, I went to Josh’s office. I needed to know if he was coming to dinner tonight or not. If not, I needed to think of a good excuse to tell my father. With quick steps I made it to Josh’s office and knocked on the door; no answer. Just as I raised my fist to knock again I heard a shuffling and whispered voices. I turned the knob and was greeted with an attractive, blonde haired, blue eyed, woman. She was flushed and adjusted her top and hair with her slim fingers and manicured nails. My eyes flicked to Josh and the only expression he was emanating was guilt. I cleared my throat and averted my gaze to the floor “I apologize, Professor Morris” I averted my eyes to the floor and closed the door behind me. I ran back to the parking lot, Jason was in the front waiting for me. I jumped in without a word and buckled myself in.
“What’s wrong?” he reached for my hand and I snapped it out of reach. “Please, just take me home” I whispered. Sighing, he looked out the window and back towards me “Is it what I said at lunch? About your father?” I peered out my window, squeezing my eyes shut tightly I held back the burning tears. “I get it ok,” I snapped my head towards him, tears escaping my eyes and tumbling down my cheeks. “don’t tell my father I’m with two men. One who went to jail for kidnapping me and the other who has blood stained on his hands.” I wiped the tears off my face with the back of my hand “I get that if I tell him the truth you will kill him, I get it that you and Josh hate me for what I did and I get it that you both want to punish me for it. But for the sake of my heart and sanity, just punish me and move on, I can’t take it anymore. I need you both to either forgive me and move on or don’t and let me go” my bottom lip is quivering violently and I bit it to try and stop it. Taking a deep breath, I let it out erratically “Please, just take me home” Jason didn’t speak a word, he puts the Rover in gear and silently drives us home.
When he pulled up to the front door, I knew he was only dropping me off and not joining me inside. At that moment, I was ok with it. I hopped out without a word and walked in without a glance behind me.
“Miss Skye? Is everything alright?” Jeffrey furrowed his brows.
“No, I’m fighting with Jason, Josh is cheating on me, I can’t think straight. I’m just sick of this!” I broke down. Jeffrey was at my side in an instant. His large hand rubbed my back soothingly as he pushed my hair behind my ear. “I’m sorry, Miss Skye” he spoke tenderly. “Is there something I can do to help?” I shook my head and looked up at him, with a small smile I gave him a hug and straightened my spine. “I’ll be ok” I sniffled “I’m stronger than this” I gave him another smile and took his hand “Thank you. I needed a friend and I can see I found one in you” Jeffrey blushed and nodded “I would agree, Miss Skye. I don’t usually have the guests consider me as a friend, but, it is quite nice that you do. Thank you” we hugged each other briefly and I said my goodbyes.
When I was inside the loft I kicked off my shoes and went straight for the shower. I let out all my fears, frustrations and anger until I was exhausted. Padding out of the bathroom I went to my room and started to get ready for dinner with my Dad, with or without Josh. Just as I finished applying my lipstick the front door opened and I heard footsteps towards my room.
“You have no right to be upset with me”
I said nothing and smoothed out my dress with stiff hands, I walked over to my bed and started putting things into my clutch.
“Don’t you dare ignore me” he seethed.
“I lost you, didn’t I?” I sighed, straightening my stance but not looking at him.
“What?” I turned to face him and took a shaky breath. “I don’t hold your heart anymore” I swallowed hard.
“Do you deserve to after what you did?” he narrows his eyes.
“No” I whisper, flinching from the sting of ice blue daggers.
“Jesus!” he snaps under his breath “Come here” he growls deep within his chest. With unsteady feet I make my way over. His arm shoots out and his fingers dig behind my neck, with a rough jerk I slam into his chest. My hands instantly flush against his toned chest and they flex under his warmth and rage. He leans in and rests his forehead against mine, sighing deeply, his eyes flutter closed “It’s not what it looked like. Amelia has been flirting with me since day one, I’ve been fending her off and even bluntly told her of my girlfriend that I love but she just doesn’t give a shit” his voice has become raspy and his breathing slightly ragged. “I’ve been so distracted with thoughts of you that I ignored her advances and blatant flirting that when I didn’t shut her down, she thought she had a chance. She came into my office, locked the door an-”
“I don’t need the details” I curled my fingers around the fabric of his shirt.
He sighed deeply and nodded “I love you, Skye. I would never cheat on you or hurt you” I nodded and he pulled away “Answer me” his eyes flicked between my own and I licked my lips “I understand” I whispered. “Good. Now give me a few minutes to shower and change so we can meet your father for dinner. Eight, right?”
“Yes” I answered and he tucked my hair behind my ear and stroked my neck with his thumb.
“You look beautiful ” he leaned in and placed a soft kiss to my lips.
’Thank you” I mumbled. With another soft kiss, he let go and walked away. I stood there, not knowing how to feel, not knowing how to react. My phone beeped and I reached for it in my clutch.
Jason: I’m sorry about today, love. Please let me make it up to you?
A small smile spread and I began to reply.
Skye: I would like that
Jason: Good. Tomorrow night, you’re all mine.
Skye: I will always be yours. I belong to you.
Jason: Good Girl.
