Chapter 26

I stumbled out of his hold “You’re lying” turning my back to him I took deep breaths. Everything was a lie. Jason was a lie, my father was a lie, Josh was a lie, everything I thought I knew was a lie. “I think I’m going to throw up” I covered my mouth.

“Love,” he was by my side in an instant, rubbing my back while he cooed sweet words in my ear. “let’s go home”

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” I stepped away from him while trying to rein in my emotions. “I don’t know you anymore, I never did”

“Yes you do, love” he reached for me and I took a step back “This isn’t the place for this, let’s go home, I promise to tell you everything”

“Everything” I raised a brow.

“Yes,” he sighed “please” he held his hand out for me, I stared at it for a moment before I looked back into his eyes. With a single nod I walked around him and sat back in the car. A second later he followed, a deep frown set on his face. “Carry on, Gary” The town car pulled into the street once again and a heavy tension fell over us. A few minutes into the drive and Jason tried to reach out for my hand, I slipped it out of his reach and he sighed “Love, nothing has changed, I’m still yours as you are mine”

“I don’t know what’s happening anymore, I’m so confused, so hurt. Nothing is making sense”

“I’ll clear everything up when we’re in the privacy of our home. Until then, I really need you close to me” he reached for my hand once again, this time I let him take it. Kissing my palm he held it over his heart “You are my everything, Skye, please don’t ever forget that” The drive home was the longest drive of my life. When we pulled up to the front, Jason held his hand out for me and I took it without hesitation. He pulled me to his chest and looked deeply into my eyes. Sighing, I reached up and pressed my lips to his “We have a lot to discuss” he only nodded, took my hand and walked us inside the building.

“Good evening, Mr King, Miss Skye” Jeffrey smiled.

“Good Evening” we smiled back.

“Oh, congratulations, Miss Skye” he nodded toward my hand, lifting it up I smiled “Or should I say, Mrs King?” he winked at the both of us.

“I always loved the sound of that” I whispered, blushing.

“Enjoy the rest of your night” he bowed slightly. We thanked him and Jason walked us to the elevators.

Once we entered the loft, I slipped off my shoes and went straight to the kitchen “Wine?” I tossed over my shoulder “Lord knows I’ll need to be drunk for this conversation” I mumbled.

“Scotch, actually” Jason sighed tugging at the knot of his tie.

With freshly poured drinks we stood staring at each other in the kitchen. “Well, explain” I sighed. He raised a brow and I rolled my eyes ”Please"

“Let’s sit” he nodded to the living room. I sat down on the love seat, my feet tucked under me. Jason decided to sit next to me, resting his hand on my thigh, drawing small shapes randomly. A few minutes passed before he spoke. “Where would you like me to start?” he put his glass down on the side table and faced me slightly.

“My dad first, explain that”

“Well, like I said, your mom reached out to him wanting to be in your life but he wouldn’t have it”

“When did she reach out to him?”

“A couple of years ago”

“Ok,” I furrowed my brows “go on”

“Alright,” he grabbed his glass and took a swig before placing it back down again “Dad said he would do anything to keep her away from you, so she named a price of five million dollars. She knew he couldn’t deliver, she was toying with him. But, dad was determined to keep her away from you, so, he met with someone who loaned him the money”

“Oh daddy” I sighed closing my eyes.

“I don’t need to tell you he’s a bad guy” I shook my head, that was obvious “He made his payments, on time, every time. Your mother was floored and to be honest, insulted. She didn’t want to be bought off, she wanted you. The man she left with was so whipped over her that all she had to say was I want my daughter and, like snapping your fingers, he made it happen”

“But he didn’t, I’m here with you, not them”

“That’s right” he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Your mother reached out to your father again, demanding more money she was certain he couldn’t give her. But, he just went back and loaned some more. So, that’s why they sent me”

“And what were you supposed to do exactly?”

“Bring you to them” he took my hand in his and played with my fingers “But, when I saw you, I was mesmerized. You were the most gorgeous woman I had ever I seen, I knew I wanted you for myself”

“Where does Josh fit in all of this?”

“Josh? He was just a love sick teacher that fell for a girl who had no idea what was truly happening around her. Simple case of wrong place, wrong time”

“He’s innocent?”

“No one is truly innocent, Skye. He did murder Kimberly’s uncle”

“It really was him who did it?”

“Yeah, he’s easily manipulated” he snickered.

“Keep going, there’s still so much unanswered. How are you and my dad connected?”

“The man I used to work for, your mother’s boyfriend, found out dad was paying them off with loans. He got in touch with the loan shark and made a deal. I found out he was coming after dad for full payment so, I got involved”

“How?”

“I did what I had to, to protect my father-in-law” he gave me a small smile.

“Jason,” I complained, “be serious here”

“I am,” he cupped my face “I always told you I wanted your father and I to have the best relationship. We do now” he smiled.

“How so?”

“Of course he knew who I was the second he laid eyes on me. He has a mean right hook by the way” he chuckled “He didn’t want to hear me out, which was expected, but I made him see reason. I told him what I’ve been doing to protect you from your mother and her boyfriend. He appreciated it but wanted me to stay away from you. I told him exactly what I felt for you, that I would do anything for you, I would give up my last breath for you. I paid off his debt and even gave him the money for his project, also lent him some of my best guys to do some of the work. The project was a success and your father was happy. He felt like he was indebted to me, but, I told him that family never owes anything to each other. What’s mine is his, what’s his is mine. But of course, all I wanted, all I needed, was you"

“None of this makes sense. How the hell did you get a job at the high school?”

“Everyone has a skeleton in their closet, love. The superintended, was no exception”

“I’m having a hard time with all of this” I took a deep breath, then polished off my wine. I stood and took my empty glass to the kitchen, pouring myself a fresh drink.

“It’s a lot to take in” he leaned against the kitchen island “But one thing that’s real, is how I feel about you. If it were up to me, you would be able to do and go where ever you pleased. But I know, that the second I take my eyes off of you, they’ll take you”

“That’s why you stalk my life?” I raised a brow.

“Yes, baby, that’s why I stalk your life” he walked around the island, placed his hands on my waist and lifted me up on to the island. Nuzzling in between my legs he rubbed circles around my hips. “When I lose my temper, it’s my old life creeping in, I need constant control”

“I’ve noticed” I mumbled.

“You make me want to be a better man, baby, but, I’ve seen a lot, I’ve done a lot, you can’t just walk away from it all and be someone else. That shit stays with you forever”

“Tell me”

“No,” he sighed “leave the past in the past”

“That’s kind of hard to do when your past is the reason why you’re in my life” I cupped his face in my hands “Please, let me in” he took a deep sigh, his eyes watching me carefully until he dropped his head onto my shoulder and circled my waist in his arms.

“I can’t and won’t let you in, not into that part of my life. I would never taint you with that, I would never darken your soul with that. I love you too damn much”

“Oh baby” I sighed kissing his temple. After a few minutes of silence, I lifted his gaze back to me “Where do we go from here”

“Anywhere you want. Run away with me” he smirked slightly and I chuckled.

“Is that your answer to everything? Run away?” I played with the knot of his tie.

“When it comes to you, yes. I just want to take you away from everything, keep you all to myself” he nuzzled my neck, sucking the skin into his mouth.

“Jason,” I whispered. Removing himself from my neck, he looked at me with an amused grin. “Is that even your real name?” I furrowed my brows.

“Yes, love. Jason is indeed my real name”

“What about King? Is that real?”

“Sort of. It was my mother’s maiden name, a name I choose to keep over my father’s”

“Which is?”

“McIntyre”

“Jason McIntyre” I tried the name and he groaned. “Even I have to admit, Jason King, sounds a lot better” Jason smiled and leaned in giving me a gentle kiss. “What happened to Josh?”

“Don’t, love. Don’t ask questions you truly don’t want the answers to” I could only nod, I don’t think I did want to know what happened to Josh.

“Who’s the guy my mom’s with, the guy you work for”

“I no longer work for him, love. I’m my own man now. But, to answer your question, his name is Charles”

“Charles? Charles, what?”

Jason sighed deeply “I love you so much” he looked pained.

Oh Dear Lord

I sighed closing my eyes, my shoulders slumping, waiting for the next blow. “Charles, what?” I asked once more, but cringing at the impending answer.

"Charles McIntyre"
