Chapter 3

I blinked up at my ceiling, no thoughts, no emotions. I knew I had to get up and start my day, but, knowing the day consisted of seeing Jason and Josh made my will power practically diminish. I didn’t want to see them, I didn’t want to deal with their possessive and demanding personalities, I didn’t want to deal with their lies and manipulation, I was tired and just wanted a normal life. With a deep sigh I flipped the covers off of me and rose from the bed, I padded to the bathroom and began my morning routine.

“Morning, Dad” I smiled passing him a cup of coffee when he joined me in the kitchen.

“Morning kid” he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and kissed the side of my head. “Is Josh here? I thought I saw his car outside” he put two pieces of toast in the toaster. I rolled my eyes, I wouldn’t doubt if he was watching me all night, freakin’ weirdo! Just as I was about to open my mouth to respond the doorbell rang “Must be him” I muttered sarcastically. Anger boiled deep within me as I approached the front door, when I swung it open, my blood pressure only increased when I saw the fake smile upon his face. “Morning, sweetheart. You look nice today” he stepped into my home. I closed the door behind him and grabbed on to his arm pulling him close “Where you camped out there all night watching me?” I hissed. “Yes, I’m sorry. I just needed to know you wouldn’t run from us” his face dropped and I huffed in annoyance. “My dad saw you out there, he’ll probably ask why it took you so long to come in so tell him you were on a call” I began to walk away but he pulled me back by my wrist “I came with good news and this is how you treat me? He raised a brow. I was confused for a moment before realization washed over me “He said yes?” Josh nodded with a knowing smile “He said yes”. I don’t know what came over me, but I flung myself at him, arms wrapped tightly around his neck. He chuckled before holding me closer, his palms pressed firmly into my lower back. “Thank you” I whispered before pulling away.

“Josh! How are you son?” my dad rounded the corner with a smile. “Good sir, and yourself?” Josh stepped away from me to shake my father’s hand like he always did. I always saw it as a sign of respect but now, now I see it as another manipulation. The two of them chatted before Dad said goodbye and left for work.

I began gathering my things to head out myself when a pair of unwanted arms circled around my waist and a pair of lips brushed up against my neck. “I have to get going” I nudged him a little.“You still have ten minutes” he hummed burying his face between my neck and shoulder. I nudged him again and tried to pull away “C’mon Josh, stop, I have to go” He only held me tighter, burying his face deeper and attempting to kiss me. “She said stop, Josh” We both stilled and looked in the direction of the commanding voice. “What are you doing here? Are you insane? Someone could see you!” I scolded pulling out of Josh’s arms and stomping over to Jason. “Your concern touches my heart, love.” He smiled “It makes me happy, knowing you still care” I tilted my head to the side and was about to give him a reality check when Josh cleared his throat behind me. “I received quite a nice thank you when I came in the door, maybe a thank you is in order for Jason as well?” he had a smile on his face, but his eyes were warning me to behave. He was right, if he didn’t stop me, Jason would have said no to the week with my Dad. “Thank you,” I nodded and looked to Jason “for letting me stay with my Dad for the week”. He smiled and cupped my cheek tenderly “You’re welcome, baby”. Silence filled the room, Josh’s hands on my hips, Jason’s hand on my cheek; it was too much. I pulled myself away from the both of them “If I don’t leave now, I’ll be late” They nodded and I locked up my home before Josh drove me to school.

I had to beg and plead Jason not to stay with me as Josh had his first day of teaching and couldn’t watch over me himself. It was a fight but after telling him it was too risky for obvious reasons, he conceded and said he would stay close by. I attended my first class and tried to pay attention, my mind was preoccupied with my current situation so when my Professor called on me for an answer, I received a glare and a firm tisk of a tongue for my lack of attention and response. I tried to shake it off but I felt like a complete failure, even more, I felt like I was spinning out of control. I left the class with my head down and my mood sour.

“How was your class, love?” I inhaled deeply and spun around “You scared me!” I closed my eyes and caught my breath. “What are you doing here? Do you want to be caught?” I looked around. “I’ve been away from you for too long, I needed to see you, touch you” his voice deepened as he took a step closer, his hands placed on my hips to draw me closer. “Jason,” I whispered and placed my palms on his chest “I can’t,” I shook my head “I can’t pretend that everything you put me through didn’t happen. I can’t go back to the way we were before all of this” I shook my head. “You will with time, just give me the chance to redeem myself” He wasn’t going to accept the truth, so all I could do was nod and step away from him. “I’ll see you at Josh’s condo. You can’t be in public, someone might recognize you” I turned to leave, not sparing him a look.

“I love you, Skye” he spoke loud enough for me to hear.

“I know” was the only response I could give him.
