Chapter 5

Landon’s POV –

8 Hours Ago:

I woke up to my phone buzzing. I peered over my shoulder at Olivia who was still sound asleep in bed. I smiled at her cute face and then grabbed my phone off the nightstand, unplugging it from the charger.

It was eleven-thirty in the morning and there was a voicemail from Riley. I couldn’t stop the automatic eye roll. This guy always calls at the most random times.

Despite my thoughts, I clicked play and brought the speaker to my ear.

“Hey dude! Today is Sunday and after Olivia’s girly birthday party yesterday, I thought we both deserved a guys day out! Don’t be a chicken shit, just get up and get dressed. I’m sure Olivia will understand. I’ll be there to pick you up in an hour! Toodles!”

Face palming myself; I slowly sat up in bed.

Did he really just end the voicemail with “toodles”?

I need to find another best friend.

Remembering my first best friend, I turned to her and smiled. Her leg was up against her chest as it was covering a third pillow that she placed in between her legs. Why she sleeps like this, I’ll never know.

Her head was against her pillow and her hands rested peacefully under her cheek for more support. Her hair was a mess, but she still looked breath taking. I gently moved some stray strands of her dark hair behind her ear while running my thumb softly against her cheekbone.

“Olivia.” I whispered against her ear.

“Guess what.” I whispered again, this time a little louder.

“Five more minutes.” She mumbled.

Grinning, I got closer to her ear and whispered again. “Olivia... guess what.”

She mumbled something I couldn’t pick up and swatted my face with her right hand, her body facing away from me and her bare back against my bare chest.

“Olivia... guess what!” I said a little louder.

“Oh for fucks sake, WHAT!” She yelled, starting to turn around to face me.

I laughed and yanked the blanket off her in one swift motion, letting it fall to the floor below. “You have to be awake when I say this. You just have to!” I pleaded with a smile.

“Landon, I’m going to seriously hurt you in about five seconds if you do not pick that blanket up, and put it back over me!” She said in a monotone voice with her eyes still closed.

“But Olivia... it’s important!” I gasped.

“Landon. I am naked. It’s freezing in here. Give me back the blanket, or so help me...”

At that, I knew she was serious. However, I did not care.

I smirked at her body, the goosebumps starting to form atop of her skin. She was so beautiful. Every single inch of her skin begged me to embrace her. Feeling her soft touch was the only thing that made me feel fully alive.

I gently ran my fingers along her upper thigh, which caused her to tense. I loved making her do that.

“Landon... what do you want?” She said again, her eyes still closed with her body now facing me. I looked at her innocent face and gently left a kiss on her forehead.

Her eyes slowly fluttered open and her lips turned up into a small smile.

“I just wanted to say that, I love you.” I said in a soft tone, looking at nothing but her brown eyes.

“Landon...” She sighed. “I love you too.” Then she slowly ran her hand down my chest, stopping just above my waistline.

My body immediately tensed, and I softly bit at the bottom of my lip.

She lingered her fingers there for a moment, before softly enclosing them around me, leaving a soft squeeze.

I let a low moan escape from my lips as I allowed my eyes to flutter closed.

She slowly lifted her body up with her arms and swung a leg over my body, putting herself in the straddling position. I instantly grabbed at her hips and thrusted my pelvis up against hers with slight force.

She smirked and lowered her body against mine to give me a small kiss on the lips.

After that, she brought her lips to my ears and let out a soft whisper. “Landon... guess what.”

“What?” I breathed out, not able to control my wondering thoughts while looking at her body.

Her smirk grew bigger as her left arm reached towards the floor next to the bed.

In a matter of seconds, she had the blanket in her hand and she jumped to the spot next to me yanking the blanket over her body tightly and slamming her head down on her pillow, her body facing away from me.

“Take this fucking blanket again... and we will surely have some issues to talk about later.”

Laying there dumbfounded and cold, my eyes stood in a wide-open position. Did she really just do that?

Oh hell no.

I tried yanking the blanket again, but it didn’t move. She managed to tuck every corner of the blanket up underneath her body, so it was immobile.

“Olivia Harper... you are really in for it now.” I mumbled, getting up to retrieve my boxers from the spot on the floor that they landed last night.

“Landon Cavalier, I do not give any fucks. Goodnight.” She replied in a monotone voice, snuggling into the bed even further.

“Why do I even love you?” I asked, a small smirk playing on my lips.

“Clearly it’s because you’re very intelligent and have amazing taste.” She teased, still not moving from her spot on the bed.

Not wanting to disagree, I shrugged my shoulders and walked over to the kitchen. I poured some leftover coffee from the pot I made yesterday morning into my coffee mug and placed it in the microwave.

Three minutes later, the ding from the microwave jolted me awake. Getting up from the dining room table, I made my way to the microwave to retrieve my coffee.

After placing the necessary creamer and sugar into my mug and stirring it, I placed it on the table. Just as I was about to sit down, I remembered the newspaper that was left in our mailbox.

Sighing, I walked over to the closet and pulled on a pair of my grey sweatpants. After opening the front door and temporarily blinding myself, I walked down to our mailbox.

After a couple minutes, I made it back inside our apartment.

I strolled over to the dining table and sat down, my eyes glued to the front story of the paper.

I slowly lifted my hand and went to grab for my coffee mug. To my surprise, my hand hit the bare table where my coffee mug once sat.

Confused, I sat the paper down on the table beside me and looked around the table for my coffee.

After a couple of seconds thinking that I officially lost my mind... my confused expression quickly turned into an annoyed one.

I slowly turned around to the sound of someone slurping.

It was then that I saw Olivia, sitting on the edge of the bed in her underwear and bra sipping on MY coffee!

“Oh, Olivia...” I said in a bored tone.

“Yes, dear?” She asked, in a calm tone.

“That would be my coffee that you are currently sipping on.”

“Whatever is your point, dear?” She asked again, and I could practically hear the smirk on her face.

“My point, dear, is that it is very rude to drink someone else’s coffee that they took the time out to make.”

“Well you took my blanket.”

“So?” I asked, annoyed.

“So... we are now even.” She said, as she slowly walked past me into the kitchen, setting the now empty coffee mug into the sink.

She walked back over to me and left a small kiss on my cheek. “Thanks babe, that was delicious.”

I inhaled deeply, letting the breath out slow. “Alright, you’re going to get it now!” I yelled.

Olivia let out a small squeal as she ran to the other side of the apartment with me chasing her. We chased each other around the apartment for a good five minutes before I finally caught her in my arms.

I threw her over my shoulder in the kitchen and marched over to the bed, throwing her down on it.

“Time for your punishment.” I teased.

I looked at her perfect face and noticed the smile she wore as it shined up into her eyes.

“Please, you don’t scare me. Remember, I was the one always in charge growing up.” She teased back.

“You’re not in charge now, are you?” I asked as I threw myself on top of her, pinning her arms down above her head.

“I guess I’m not.” She sighed. “Just please, be gentle.”

“No promises.” I smiled, slowly leaning down to greet my lips with hers.

I felt her smile against my kiss and I looked at the clock to make sure I wasn’t running late for my guys day out. Fortunately, we had plenty of time to do the things that I’d rather not mention. Wink wink.

“C’mon bro, you’re slow as molasses!”

“Shut the fuck up, Riley!” I yelled from the front door of my apartment.

“Babe, I’m leaving!” I hollered through the apartment.

“Oh! Wait!” I heard Olivia yell from the closet.

She pulled on a pair of shorts and a tanktop before sprinting over to the front door.

“How long will you be gone?” She asked, a small smile on her lips.

God, I love that smile.

“I’m not sure. Knowing Riley it could be hours.” I sighed with a smirk.

Olivia wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed my cheek. “I love you babe.”

“I love you too, beautiful.” I whispered in her ear.

“I’m going to watch some TV and then maybe take a nap.” She said, followed by a giggle.

“How much sleep do you need, woman?” I teased.

“Plenty! Now go before my brother comes into the house and we have to feed him.” She urged, pushing me out of the door.

I chuckled and waved as I walked down the sidewalk towards Riley’s car.

“Hey Olivia!” I yelled out of the window once I got inside the car.

I saw her turn around before closing the door and she looked right at me with a smile.

“What!”

“It’s you!”

I saw her roll her eyes with a laugh. “It’s you! Now off you go, Grey’s anatomy is about to start!”

I laughed some more and rolled my window back up, turning to face Riley as Olivia walked inside and shut the door.

“You guys are disgusting.” He said with a scrunched up face.

“Whatever, you’re just mad because you’re still single.” I teased, punching his arm.

“Not me. The ladies love the Riley.” He said wiggling his eyebrows.

“Um... what ladies? I’ve never seen any.”

“That’s ’cause I don’t want you to see them.” He defended.

Rolling my eyes, I turned the radio on. “Whatever you say.”

“Where would you like to go for lunch?” Riley asked after five minutes of driving.

“I thought you had this whole guy day planned?” I laughed.

“Shut the fuck up and give me a place.” He laughed back.

“Hmm... Buffalo Wild Wings?” I suggested.

“Sure, haven’t been there in a while.”

After stuffing our faces with wings and shooting the shit, we decided it was time to head back to my place to check up on Olivia. I’m sure she’s been too lazy to order herself something to eat and she’s probably starving. That or she’s sleeping.

It was around two-thirty and we were in the car heading towards home.

“The silence is deafening, turn the radio on.” I blurted out.

Riley sighed and leaned forward pressing the button and music starting spilling out of the speakers.

“Oh, I love this song!” I reached up and turn the radio up pretty loud as Lithium by Nirvana started blaring.

“Hey man, turn that down!” Riley shouted over the blaring rock music, both of his hands still on the wheel.

“Why you old man? It’s Nirvana!” I laughed, bobbing my head to the music.

“Whatever.” I heard Riley mumbled as he continued driving.

Ten minutes passed and Green day was blaring through the speakers now. I was still dancing a long in my seat to the music when Riley all of a sudden leaned forward and turned the radio off.

“Man, you are so annoying!” He yelled, even though there was silence in the air.

“Stop being such a puss, dude. I’ve heard you listen to music twice as loud numerous times before.” I rolled my eyes.

Riley turned his head to face me. “I don’t care, bro. That constant screaming gives me a headache after a while, so keep it off!”

“You must be on your man period or some shit.” I teased, nudging his arm.

Riley still had his eyes on me. “Fuck off.” He said with a laugh.

The next few minutes happened in the blink of an eye.

Riley turned his head forward and instantly slammed on his brakes to try to stop before hitting the intersection of the street, but it was too late.

We blew through the red light and I snapped my head to the right to make sure there was no traffic coming towards us yet.

Before I could concentrate on anything... I heard Riley scream and then the lights went out.

In that split second before impact, all I could think about was one thing.

Olivia.
