Chapter 20 | Let Me Go

I slowly begin opening my eyes as I feel a sharp pain on the side of my face. I slowly move my arm upward to touch my face, and when I pull my fingers back, I feel a thick liquid.

Blood. Whoever hit me must have hit my stitches.

My glasses are nowhere to be found, so it's hard to see anything in this lightly-dimmed room. I can’t tell you where I am, or who took me as everything happened so fast.

One thing I know for sure; I’m scared.

I’m currently lying down on the floor, so I slowly begin to sit up, but feel something keeping my legs together.

Seriously? They tie my legs up, but not my hands?

Morons.

I reach down to slowly begin untying my legs. As I do, I hear footsteps approaching followed by muffled speaking.

I scoot my butt against the floor backwards until my back hits the far wall behind me.

Suddenly, a door on the opposite side of the room swings open.

“Oh good, you’re awake.”

That voice sends chills down my spine.

“W-What do you want from me Jared?” I just barely choke out, my voice dry and raspy.

“My darling Addilyn, what makes you think I want something?” I can tell he’s smirking, even without looking at his disgusting face.

“Well you kidnapped me, which by the way how cliché and ridiculous is that? We aren’t in a Liam Neeson movie for God sake.” I sigh, feeling the sudden urge to be both confident and sarcastic.

Jared laughs, but then the room goes silent again.

“I just wanted to talk to you without anyone around, that’s all.” He simply states, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“Talk about what?” I nervously ask.

“I think you know what about.” He replies, and I can feel him stepping closer to me as more hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

“Just let me go Jared. Now!” I urge.

“Not before we’ve had a chance to talk Addie.” He coos, causing me to want to vomit.

Why is this boy so nauseating?

“I don’t want to talk to you. About anything.” I clearly state, sitting up straighter with my back still pressed against the far wall.

“Too bad. We’re talking, or you will go to sleep yet again. This time, I will be more than happy to use more force.” I can tell he’s smirking, and as he nears me, I can just barely make out the outline of his body.

“Screw you.” I simply state.

Out of nowhere, Jared is kneeling down beside me with his large hand wrapped around my throat.

“Are you sure you want to say that? I may take it literal.” He whispers into my ear, causing my stomach to drop.

I close my eyes and begin to whimper as he squeezes his hand around my throat even harder.

“Now, let’s try this again. Addilyn, do you care to have a talk with me?” He asks.

I don’t make another noise. I don’t nod or shake my head. I am completely frozen.

All I can do is pray, so that’s what I begin to do. I just pray that someone finds me, or I at least get out of this alive and touched no more than I already have been.

Shane’s POV

As we pull into the parking lot, we all jump out of the car and charge towards the door to Fred’s.

“ADDIE!” I yell, desperately searching each table and booth in hopes of finding her just sitting down and enjoying a nice cup of tea or one of those iced coffee’s she loves so much.

“Fred, have you seen Addilyn in here at all today?” Jaxon asks, standing directly in front of Fred himself.

“No, she hasn’t been here. Why?”

“What the hell, why is her cell phone showing that she’s here then?” I ask, peering over to Angie who is currently following the location on her cell phone that matches Addie’s.

She begins to walk around each table and booth, until she reaches a small table by the front door.

As she looks underneath it for a couple of seconds, she lets out a loud huff as she slowly starts to stand back up.

“What?” I ask.

“Well, her phone is here, but she isn’t.” Angie states while holding up Addilyn’s phone for everyone to see.

My eyes widen as I begin cursing to myself.

“Dammit!” I yell, causing a few heads to turn.

“Is everything alright kids?” Fred asks, looking a bit concerned.

“Um yeah Fred, we’ve got it covered. Thanks!” Jax simply states with a smile.

The three of us walk over to an empty booth and sit down, feeling totally and completely defeated.

“Well, now we’re back to square one. No leads. Maybe we should call her parents now?” Angie says, causing me to sigh.

“You’re right. We have to.” I say, pulling my phone from my pocket to call Mr. Bishop.

He doesn’t answer, but I leave him a voicemail to call me back immediately.

“I guess now we just wait.” I shrug.

“Does this mean I can order a milkshake?” Jax sheepishly smiles as Angie and I glare at him.

“Okay, sorry.” He slouches into the booth.

“I don’t get it. Where would he take her?” I demand, though I know I won’t get any answers any time soon.

Addilyn’s POV

“Listen, I know you think that I was out of line at that party, and maybe I was...” Jared begins.

“Maybe? You tried to rape me and when I fought back you punched me in the face.” I glare.

“The whole situation is debatable if you ask me.” He shrugs.

“How the fuck do you figure that?” I raise my voice.

“Whoa, feisty. I like it.” Jared chuckles, causing my face to grow red in anger.

“I’m tired of these stupid mind-games Jared. What do you want? To threaten me into not going forward with the charges? To keep me from testifying if we do end up going to court? To get me to stay away from Rebecca? Speaking of, was it you that picked her up Friday morning?”

“Well, actually, yes to all of that except for the picking up Rebecca part. That wasn’t me.” He smiles, turning around to flip a switch on the wall, causing an actual light to turn on.

The entire room lights up and I can see that it is completely empty.

“Where the fuck am I?” I ask.

“Let’s just say, no one knows you’re here but me.” He smirks, his grey eyes never leaving mine.

“Can I at least have my glasses?” I huff, crossing my arms.

“Oh sure.”

I raise my eyebrows in surprise as he pulls them from his back pocket and starts walking towards me again.

Due to instinct, I try pushing myself further into the wall to get away from him, but when he slowly reaches his hand out I quickly grab my purple glasses and put them on.

I smile since they are as perfect as the day Shane gave them to me.

Shane.

He must be freaking out right about now.

“Good choice. You look sexy with them on.” He smirks, making my insides churn in disgust.

“Ew.” I sigh. “Can you please let me go now? You can’t keep me here forever.”

“You are right about that... but I can tell you something.” He begins, taking another step closer to me before kneeling down to face me at eye level.

“If you don’t drop these charges and allegations against me now, I can promise you that this is only a very small portion of what you will have to look forward to in the near future. I won’t just come after you, I will come after everyone that you love. Including that cute little Jacob.” He smirks again, this time causing my fists to clench.

“Easy there tiger.” Jared chuckles while placing his strong hand over my clenched fist. “Do I make myself clear?”

What am I supposed to say? I don’t want to just let him get away with everything he has put me through. He is a coward and a woman beater, and I can’t just leave him on the streets.

“I can’t guarantee the charges will be dropped, due to my father. However... I can tell you that I won’t testify about the rape if you let me go and leave me alone. That includes Jacob or anyone else close to me.” I demand.

“Sorry, that isn’t good enough. You see, my parents are looking forward to sending me away for college on my football scholarship and well, any charges against me will result in me losing said scholarship. My parents are rich, but they would prefer it if I pay for college on my own, you know to build character.” He laughs while shaking his head. “Ridiculous I know.”

“Okay I will talk to my dad about letting everything go... just please... Let me go.” I beg.

“Fine. I will drop you off at Fred’s discreetly, but no funny business. Just get out of the car and disappear.” He firmly states.

“Okay.” I slowly nod, reaching down to untie my legs.

Once I’m free, I stand up but keep my distance.

“Don’t be afraid baby, let’s go.” He grabs me by my hand firmly, and pulls me along with him. Eventually I end up in front of him as he continues to walk close to me. Too close for comfort, might I add.

I can feel his front side brushing against my back and it’s causing severe goosebumps, and not the good kind.

“We should meet up like this more often.” He whispers against my ear as we walk down a large corridor. I still don’t know where we are, but suddenly my vision becomes blank as he places a blindfold over my eyes.

“What the hell?” I try to push away, but he instantly pulls me back and slams me up against the wall.

“Stop struggling so much.” He sighs. “If you didn’t struggle at the party, we could have had some real fun.”

“You mean you classify rape as fun?” I hiss, feeling my fists clench yet again.

“The blindfold is so you don’t know where you are when we leave, or what direction we are driving to Fred’s from. God, for a smart girl, you sure are stupid.” He chuckles.

“Besides,” I can feel his warm breath against my face as he brings his closer to mine, “You look sexy with a blindfold on too.”

Then all of a sudden, his lips are pressed against mine as I squirm to try to get him off me.

He forces his tongue into my mouth as he begins to make out with me right here in this dark hallway.

I begin whimpering as tears fill my eyes.

After a few seconds, he pulls away.

“Yum.” He states in a deep voice. “Okay, let’s go.” He then yanks me by my hand and guides me down the hallway.

Finally.

Shane’s POV

After an hour of sitting at Fred’s and Jaxon finally getting his milkshake, my phone begins buzzing.

“Hello, Mr. Bishop?” I say, feeling the nerves kick in over how he is going to react when I tell him what has happened to Addie.

“Shane? What is it?” He asks, seeming impatient. “Aren’t you supposed to be in school?”

“I um... I need to tell you something and you aren’t going to like it.” I admit.

“Oh no... what happened now?” He sighs.

“Well, um, Addie never showed up to school today, and well... Angie, Jaxon and I went outside to look for her and we found her backpack. We tracked her phone using the find my iPhone app, and it led us to Fred’s, but just her phone is here... not her.” I explain carefully.

I look to Angie and Jaxon and they both give me encouraging smiles, knowing that telling Addilyn’s dad she’s been kidnapped isn’t going to be easy at all.

“Well we um... we think that she’s been kidnapped.” I blurt out, waiting for him to explode on the other end of the phone.

“You said you three are at Fred’s with her phone?” He calmly asks.

“Yes.”

“Okay, stay put. I’ll be right there.” He states before abruptly hanging up.

“Well, what did he say?” Angie asks.

“He’s coming here.” I sigh, leaning back into the booth.

“Great.” Jax mumbles.

After another twenty minutes, Mr. Bishop’s car pulls up alongside a police car.

I notice the officer getting out. It’s Officer Bernard.

Angie, Jax and I all walk outside to meet up with Mr. Bishop and Officer Bernard.

“Hey kids.” Mr. Bishop sighs. “This is Officer Bernard, he’s here to help.”

“Well we don’t have any leads, other than possibly Jared.” I say.

“Winston?” Bernard asks to which I nod.

“Let me make a phone call.” He suddenly steps around his car to the opposite side and pulls out his cellphone.

“Thank you guys for letting me know of this. Why didn’t you call me sooner?” He asks.

“Well, we were trying to find her first on our own, before freaking you or Mrs. Bishop out.” Angie suddenly says, slightly biting down on her bottom lip. She must be nervous and worried about all of this.

“Next time, call me right away, don’t wait.” He instructs to which we all nod.

“I just got confirmation from Jared’s dad that he is at home with the flu.” Officer Bernard speaks up as he rounds his car back over to us again. “It can’t be him that took her.”

“What if he’s lying?” I ask, not believing for a second that Jared has nothing to do with this.

Officer Bernard shrugs, “All I can go by right now is what I’m told. I will put out an amber alert for Addilyn, but it’s going to be a stretch seeing as we don’t know what kind of car she got into or where she might be.” He sighs.

“Man, this is so messed up!” I yell, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Relax son, we’ll find her.” Mr. Bishop places his hand on my shoulder and it helps to ease some of the nerves.

Suddenly, we hear muffled voices and a car door being slammed shut.

A few moments later, a black van with no license plate comes from the back of Fred’s and shoots down the road. Officer Bernard immediately gets into his police car to try to follow the suspicious van.

“You all wait here!” He yells while jumping into his car.

Addilyn’s POV

As I feel myself being tossed from the van, I brace myself for impact as I fall onto the cement below.

I let out a small whimper, but immediately bring my hands up to take the blindfold off my face.

Huh, he really did drop me off at Fred’s.

I slowly stand up, but I feel a little bit wobbly as a headache begins to set in.

I see my reflection in the window of Fred’s and I almost begin crying. My hair is a knotted mess, and there is a streak of dried blood going down my cheek from where Jared hit me in my stitches. The stitches are still intact, but it will probably be longer now before they are able to come out.

My clothes are ruffed up and dirty from being tossed around, and I don’t know what happened to my phone so I can’t call anyone.

I begin walking around the building to reach the front, so I can go inside and ask Fred to use his phone.

As soon as I near the front, I catch a glimpse of my dad, Shane, Angie and Jaxon.

I smile as soon as I see them, and begin running towards my dad.

“Daddy!” I yell, causing all of their heads to whip around at the sound of my voice.

My dad immediately begins jogging toward me as he opens his arms. I instantly jump into them and cling to him for dear life as he closes his arms around me tightly.

“Oh baby girl... are you alright?” He asks, looking down at me. “I am so sorry!”

I begin sobbing uncontrollably as I look up at him.

“Who did this Addie?” He asks firmly.

“Jared.” I whisper. “But I need to talk to you about something when we get home.”

“No talking sweetie, not right now. Let’s just get you home.” He hugs me tighter for a split second, before pulling away so I can greet Shane and my friends.

Both Angie and Jaxon are immediately at my side, crushing me between the two of them as they cling to me.

“I thought you were a goner!” Angie sighs dramatically. “I am so happy you’re okay!”

“Addie! You’re alive!” Jaxon cheers while hugging me tighter.

“Um guys... Can’t. Breathe.” I mumble, causing them to sheepishly smile as they both pull away.

I turn to Shane who has a sad expression on his face.

I slowly walk up to him and place a hand against his cheek. He leans into my hand before pulling me in for a bone-crushing hug.

“I am so sorry I let this happen.” He says into my ear. His husky voice causes goosebumps to jump onto my skin, the good kind.

“It isn’t your fault.” I say, holding him tighter.

He kisses the top of my head and we just stand there for a few minutes, slightly swaying back and forth, as I rest my head against his chest.

“Oh, here is your phone. Your backpack is over there in my mom’s car too.” He smiles while pulling away.

I happily take my cell phone and push it into my pocket. “Can you keep it for me? You can just bring it tomorrow when you pick me up for school.” I smirk.

“Deal.” He smiles back, kissing me against my forehead. “See you tomorrow.”

“Bye guys.” I say as my dad guides me to his car.

All three of them give me a wave before getting back into Shane’s moms car and heading back to school.

My dad is taking me home since he called off the rest of the day at work, so later he will be able to pick up Jacob from school.

“I’ll help you clean up your face when we get home. Then I want you to rest alright? You deserve a night of no studying and no worries.” My dad smiles while driving along the road.

He called Officer Bernard to let him know that I am with him. I suppose he told my dad that he lost the van, and couldn’t find it so he went back to the station to inform the rest of his crew to be on a look-out for it.

“Okay dad.” I nod while resting my head against the seat.

“But we still need to talk.”
