~~A month later~~
Tired of skating, I sprawled to the floor breathing tirelessly, it was a Sunday afternoon and I was in the ice hall.
Usually, I don't do workouts on Sundays, giving myself one free day in the week where I just stay home. But, I didn't want to stay at home and sulk over Mr. Hertz, like some pathetic person, so I came out here.
He's on another business trip, these trips had become constant over time,
Okay, I get it...
He's a successful businessman and being that successful comes with a lot of responsibilities.
So I'm not asking him to stop working, I just want him around more often.
The irony though, a few months ago, I'd have done anything to stay away from him, now I'm begging for his attention. Sighing, I pulled out my phone and texted him.
He doesn't reply immediately but when he does, I hear someone yelling for me.
I look up to see Dylan, running and yelling.
I quickly placed my phone away and sat up, he reached and sat beside me. "How did you know I was here?" I asked, surprised, even the boys didn't know where I was.
"Best Friend instinct." He winked and I scoffed, rolling my eyes at him, "I would always know where to find you, even if you decide to run off one day."
I bumped his shoulder playfully and laid back again, he did the same and each of us doesn't say anything for a while,
I was tempted to take out my phone and check Mr. Hertz's reply but I couldn't...Dylan had a habit of poking his head into my screen, just so he would know who I was texting.
He's so weird!
"You've been very odd, I want to know what's bothering you?"
"I just have a headache."
"Really? A headache, that's the best you could come up with." He said, I wanted to tell him the truth, but I couldn't, "Did Mr. grumpy pants ground you again."
Dear Lord, here he goes again.
"Yeah...crazy, Mr. Hertz. How was your day?" I tried to get him to change the topic and I failed at that too.
"That bastard...it's a good thing you're 18 now, he has no control over you anymore. You can get away from him." A few days ago, I would have taken him on that offer, but things have changed. I can't handle being away from him. I'm aware it sounds cliched, but it's the truth, "You know, I used to support him but now I see him for who he truly is... He just wants to take advantage of you."
"Hey, he's not that sort of person, you shouldn't say things like that." I raised my voice.
He got up and gave me a questioning look,
"Since when do you defend him, what has gotten over you, first you lie and now you're defending him." Oh, I created a monster.
"Adulthood has made me see things more clearly, I am no longer that deprecating and spoiled teenager, I appreciate him now."
"Wow..." He exclaimed and jumped to his feet, extending a hand to me, "Let's get you home. If we keep talking about him, I might develop the urge to go confront him and we both know how that ended the last time."
I smiled at him as we stepped out of the rink and just as we spurred out the exit I came faced with someone familiar.
"Mr. hertz?" I exclaimed surprised.
He smiled at me, then noticed Dylan.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, bringing his attention back to me.
"You know you shouldn't be out here alone." He scolded me, "How can you put yourself at risk?"
"You don't have control over her anymore," Dylan shot in before I could speak.
"Go, I'm taking Alison home." Mr. Hertz's voice was calm but yet threatful, I for one knew what that meant.
"She doesn't want to go with you--"
Okay, that was my call to come in before things got out of hand or one of them gets hurt, and it sure won't be Mr. Hertz,
"Get into the car." Mr. Hertz warned,
I cringed, turning to Dylan.
"I'm sorry, I have to go with him."
"You don't have to listen to what he says, that's the whole point of turning eighteen,"
I reached and hugged him,
"I'll be fine, don't worry. See you tomorrow."
I broke away and got into the car with Mr. Hertz. I felt really bad leaving Dylan and it didn't help that he just stood there watching as we drove away.
We should have offered him a ride, but that would have been awkward.
I turned my body to look at him as he drove, resting it against the door. No reason, I just wanted to stare at him.
"I don't like that boy."
"I think I got that the first time...." I said, chuckling afterward,
He laughs too.
"Dylan and I are just friends.." I assured him, "And, I know what you think you saw the last time, but that was nothing, I don't see him in that way..So you can stop treating him like some rival, he's not your competition here."
"Who's my competition?"
"I'm going to choose not to answer that..."
He pulled over suddenly, and then undoing my seat belt, he pulled me into his laps, "You need to understand one thing, Miss. Stone, I'm a very possessive man.."
"Are you now?" I teased,
He leaned and bit my lips, "Yes, and, if anyone ever laid a finger on you I'd kill them."
I gasped right and smashed my lips against his.
After being away from him for so long it seemed like forever. "I missed you." I whimpered into his mouth and he pulled back slightly to look at me.
"I know, I haven't been around...." He says and tucks my hair,
"It's okay....I understand." I smiled warmly at him, "I know you have other responsibilities."
"Ali, you are always my first priority.." He whispered and kissed the tip of my nose, whispering, "I want to make it up to you, is there anything you want?"
I bit my lips, muttering.
"I do want to spend more time with you and I know just the place." I only hope he likes it.
