"Dont be upset with me, but I spoke to Cannon," Cody said. I looked up at him with food in my mouth. We were sitting on the back porch. My grams was feeding us a ton of food. Something we were all used to. Cody was happy about it. He doesn't get a home-cooked meal to often.
"Cody, why did you do that? What did you say to him?" I asked.
"I tried to find out what his problem was, but he wasn't acting right. It was almost like he wasnt listing to me and then he hung up on me. I tried to call him back, but he wouldn't answer."
"He has been like that for months Cody. Half the time I felt like I was talking to a brick wall." I said and then I looked out to the ocean.
"April listen to me. If he is to dumb to see what he had then fuck him." Cody said and I had to giggle a little. He smiled at me. "There it is." He said.
"What?" I asked him.
"That beautiful smile of yours." I blushed when he said that.
"Stop it, Cody," I said smiling.
"I have to go out to Paris in a month. You should go with me." Cody just blurted out. My eyes got huge.
"Paris?" I said and he smiled. "Why would you want me to go with you to Paris?" I asked.
"Why not? I mean we're friends, right? I have a party I have to attend and it's a pain in my ass to get a date together. You would be doing me a favor, a huge one. Plus you'll get to see Paris." I did really want to go to Paris, but I also needed to start getting my life in order. I had wanted to apply to the police department here. I had to start doing something with my life. I was giving up on Cannon realizing what he had lost and after talking with Cody. I believed he really doesn't want me. I looked up at Cody.
"You know what, I will go," I said. Cody smiled.
"Really?" He said and I nodded at him. "We leave in three weeks. I have to head home for two weeks, but I'll be back." I felt a little sad. Cody being here has been keeping my mind away from Cannon and I haven't been in much pain.
"What's wrong April?" Cody asked. I looked up at him.
"Oh, it's nothing," I said and he just gave me his death stare.
"You, well you make me feel better. When you leave I'll be alone." I said. He got up and sat closer to me.
"I'm sorry April, I wish I could stay, but I have work to do." He said as he moved a piece of my hair behind my ear. I just smiled at him.
"It's okay Cody, I'll live." The next two weeks were long and lonely. Cody made sure he text me and called at least once a day. It was nice of him. I had talked with my mother and grams about going to Paris with Cody and then once I was back I would get back to my life. My grams was all for it, but my mother couldn't help but wonder if Cody had other thoughts about why he wanted me to go. I just told her I could handle myself. I didn't have them kinds of feelings for Cody. I wasnt trying to be with anyone right now and maybe not for a long time.
I woke up the morning I knew Cody was coming back to town. There were red roses sitting on my nightstand. I smiled and then I sat up fast. Cannon used to do this almost every morning. "Mom!" I yelled out. She came walking into my room. "Where did these roses come from?' I asked her.
"I don't know, a guy delivered them, but all they had on them was your name." I smiled and thanked her. Could this be something from Cannon? I started to question myself. I sat up and smelled them. They smelt amazing. Red roses have always been my favorite I then went into the bathroom and jumped into the shower. I heard my name being called. I knew it was Cody.
"I'm in the bathroom Cody, I'll be out in a minute." I got dressed and walked out to find Cody sitting on my bed. He smiled when he looked up at me.
"Hey, beautiful." He said. I smiled at him.
"Welcome back." I had to admit he looked really good. He was in a three piece black on black suit. "Did you come straight here from the airport?" I asked him. He smiled.
"Yeah, do you like the roses?" He asked me. I looked at him.
"You sent them?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm sorry do you not like them?" He asked.
"Oh no, I love them, Cody. It's just Cannon used to get me red roses all the time. They are my favorite."
"I know, that's why I got them for you. I didn't mean to upset you." I smiled at him.
"You didn't Cody, thank you they are beautiful." I walked over and kissed his cheek. "So how long until we are in Paris?" I asked him. He got a huge smile on his face.
"We leave on Thursday." He said.
"What do I owe you?' I asked. He looked confused at me.
"What do you mean?"
"You know like my cost for the flight and hotel. You know stuff like that." I said to him. He started to laugh. Then he shook his head.
"April, all that is already taken care of."
"What? I can't ask you to do that Cody. That's a lot of money." I said.
"To bad April. It's already done. Now come on let's go get breakfast I'm starving." I would let him off the hook for now, but this wasnt over. Our flight was leaving early Thursday morning. I was ready to go when I saw Cody's limo pull into the driveway. It was only five in the morning. I did my best to be quiet and not wake anyone in the house up. I pulled on a pair of jeans and an oversized sweater. I pulled all my hair up in a ponytail and went to meet Cody out front. I came walking out with two suitcases. I smiled at Cody as he met me on the porch with a coffee.
"Your a lifesaver," I said, as I took the coffee and pressed it to my lips. We drove in silence as I drank all of my coffee gone. "How long is our flight?" I asked Cody.
"About twelve hours." I took a deep breath. We pulled into the airport, but we didn't park by baggage claim like a normal person. The limo drove on the blacktop and we pulled up in front of a large jet. I looked over towards Cody. I crossed my arms at him. "What? April, I have more money than god. What did you expect?" He said. I just shook my head and smiled at him. I liked to see Cody smile. Even though Cody wasnt a boy anymore. He was so grown up, but I could still see that carefree outgoing person. I loved that about Cody. I still felt a little sad that I was headed to one of the most romantic places on earth and I wasnt going with Cannon. I missed him so much.
"Are you hungry?" Cody asked me as he was waking me up. His privet jet was amazing. It was covered in black leather and large enough to fit at least fifteen passengers. There was also a privaet room in the back with a full-sized bed. I had fallen asleep on the large sofa. I sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. It was dark outside. A woman came walking in with trays of food. Cody went and set down at a table. I got up and set in front of him. Stake and potatoes was set down in front of us with a salad. Wow, I said to myself. The woman then poured us each a glass of white wine. Cody smiled at me.
"I hope you know all of this doesn't impress me," I said to him.
"I know it, That's one thing I like about you." He said.
"I would have been happy sitting in coach," I said and Cody just wrinkled his nose up. "Snob," I said giggling. He rolled his eyes and started eating.
"Listen, I know this is going to make you upset, but I really would like to take you to buy a dress for this party." He said.
"Cody, I can get my own dress," I said. "I'm not broke you know." He put his hands up at me.
"I know your quite capable of that, but it's something I'd really like to do. Please?" He said. "Besides this party is very fancy and dresses can get very expensive."
"Fine, but that's it, Cody. You have already paid for this whole trip and god only knows what else. So after this dress, no more." I said to him sternly. He nodded his head at me. We landed in Paris around Midnight. I was all messed up with the time difference. The hotel was just as fancy as everything else. We were in the penthouse and the place had three bedrooms. It was like an apartment all by itself. This was going to be a fun trip even if I was ready to show him how excited I actually was.
The next day I was having a blast. We were doing all kinds of sightseeing. I was having the best time with Cody. The weather here was perfect. That evening we were going dress shopping for me. It was a black-tie affair and I wanted to match Cody. I wanted a black dress and I was going to do my best to find a dress that wasnt to much money. Of course, Cody had a different plan and the shops we went to were very expensive. A beautiful blond woman started heading over to us. "Mr. Taylor, how are you, sir?" She asked him as they hugged. I stood awkwardly at his side.
"Wanda, how are you?' He asked her as he kissed her cheek.
"Very well sir. What can I do for you this evening?" She asked him. She still hadn't even looked at me.
"This is my very good friend, April Blooms. She needs a dress for tomorrow night's event." He said. The woman finally looked over to me and smile.
"Good evening Miss Blooms, Your very lovely looking dear. I'm sure we can find something to make Mr. Taylors head turn. Please come with me and let's see what we can do." She said and took my hand. I smiled back at Cody as I followed her thought the store. The first dress she put me in was a royal blue silk dress. That touched the ground with an up to the neckline. It fit my body like a glove and when she put me in the heels. I gained about a foot taller. I walked out to the full-sized mirrors and Cody was sitting in a chair. Where he could face me. I stood in front of the mirrors and just looked at myself. I then turned to face Cody and he shook his head, no. I smiled and headed back to Wanda.
After about five different dresses. I finally slipped into a long white dress that was tight-fitting. It had a pluging neck line that made my breast pop. It was silk and hit the floor. It also had a plunging backline. I loved how it felt on my skin. I walked out and Cody's eyes went big. I stood in the mirror just looking at myself and I wasnt paying Cody any attention. I felt him come up behind me. "This is the dress." He said in my ear as he ran his hands down my arms and gave me goosebumps.
"You think so?" I said as we looked at each other in the mirror.
"Oh yeah." He said as I watched his tongue lick his bottom lip. I turned to face him.
"Cody Taylor, behave yourself," I said and playfully hit him in the arm.
"April, that dress was made for you. I'm going to have to keep you close to me at this party. The men are going to be all over you." He said. I just smiled and looked back at myself in the mirror. The last thing I wanted to entertain, was a man.
