Chapter 29

I almost fell when Cody grabbed me. "Connor, what do you mean a brain aneurysm?" I was in Cody's arms hanging on to his words. "I can't believe this Connor, I thought Kimberly was in great health after the surgery?" I grabbed my chest when he said Kimberly's name. I stood up better and then my heart broke for Connor. "No worries man. I'm on my way." Cody hung up the phone and left my arms. "Come on April, we have to pack." He said. I ran into the room and started to get dressed. Cody was already on the phone getting the jet ready to leave Paris.

"Cody, what's going on?" I asked as we were packing.

"We have to go to Connor in Chicago. His fiance passed away last night due to a brain aneurysm." Oh my god, I said to myself. "She had a small tumor on her brain about a year ago. She had surgery and they removed it. Things have been going great with her. I don't understand how this happened. Connor is a mess." He said as he was packing our things. My heart was breaking for Connor.

"Take me with you Cody," I said Cody looked up at me and smiled.

"Thank you, April. You really are one of a kind." He said. He stopped what he was doing and walked over to me. His lips came to mine and it took my breath away. He parted and took a deep breath. "This is going to be a mess. Prepare yourself." He said. Within three hours. We were already in the air headed to Chicago. We got off the jet and headed straight to Connor's home. While both the twins ran their father's enterprise. Cody had an apartment in the city and Connor got a home on the outskirts with Kimberly. I wasn't used to Connor being a family type of man. Even though we were told a lot about him and Kimberly's relationship. It was still a shock when he announced he was getting married.

I remember Cannon laughing at the invite when it showed up. Connor has always been a ladies man. He had never really taken any girl seriously enough for any of us to believe him, but apparently, all that had changed with Kimberly. According to Cody. He was really in love with her. We pulled up in front of a huge gate. Cody typed something into a code box and the gates opened. As we started to pull up to the huge house. I could see just what type of money Cody meant when he said they were richer than god. The home was large enough to fit at least four families of five.

We parked and got out of the car. Cody took my hand in his and we made our way to the front door. It was slightly open and Cody walked right in. Right away you knew something wasn't right. The downstairs was trashed and when we walked into the kitchen. There was mass bottles of alcohol everywhere. "You stay here while I go and find him," Cody said to me. I didn't even know if Connor knew I was with Cody. I took a deep breath and went in search of trash bags to start to clean up. It had to of been at least twenty minutes since Cody took off looking for Connor. Cody came walking back into the kitchen. "April can you do me a favor and start some coffee. Connor is drunk and I just got him in the shower." I nodded at him and left again.

Poor Connor, I said to myself. About thirty minutes went by when I heard voices coming closer. I had the kitchen almost completely back together and the coffee was done. I turned as Cody and Connor came walking in. Connor looked horrible, but he gave me a smile when he saw me and I went right into his arms. He held onto me tightly and I felt him start to cry. Even though he had just showered I could still smell the alcohol on him. "I'm so sorry Connor," I whispered into his ear. He gave me a sloppy kiss on my cheek and left my arms. Cody handed him a large cup of coffee and Connor drank it quietly. I grabbed a cup for Cody and myself. I took a seat next to Connor. I could see the wetness in his eyes and it made me sad.

It was clear just how much Connor felt for Kimberly. I remembered I used to have someone in my life that felt that way about me. Cody had gotten our things and brought them inside Connor's home. We decided we were going to stay here at Connor's place for a while. I had talked with my parents to let them know what was going on and I told them I had no idea when I would be home, but I was going to be here as long as Connor needed me. Cody and I had finally gotten Connor asleep. Apparently, he hadn't slept in three days. He told us how Kimberly went to bed early that night because she had a small headache. She had been getting headaches a lot in the last month and had a doctor's appointment that very next day, but she ended up dying in her sleep.

It was about three in the morning when I heard noises. I got out of bed and went out of my room. The light downstairs was on. I followed it and found Connor in the kitchen looking for something. "Where the hell is it?" I heard him shout.

"Connor?" I said as I walked in. He turned and looked at me.

"Where is my alcohol, April?" He spits out.

"I dont know Connor, but why dont you take a seat and I'll make you some tea," I said.

"I dont fucking want tea. I want tequila. Tequila takes the pain away." He yelled at me and I just knew he was going to wake Cody up. I walked over to Connor and tried to put my arms around him. He pushed me away from him.

"Dont touch me." He spit out. "Fuck!" He shouted out and then I watched as he fell to the ground. I ran to him and pulled him into my arms. "Why does this hurt so much." He said between tears.

"Becuase you loved her," I said as I ran my hand through his hair.

"I want it to go away, April. I can't do this." He said and he scared me.

"I promise you, Connor. It will get better and I'm here for you. I won't leave until you feel better." I said. I felt him relax a little in my arms. I got him off of the floor and sat him down. "Let me make you something to eat Connor. I know your hungry." I said to him and he nodded at me. I started to pull things out of the refrigerator. I made him a turkey sandwich and some crackers. I pulled out a glass of apple juice for him and then I took a seat next to him.

"I'm sorry to hear about you and Cannon." He said. I took a deep breath.

"Yeah, me to," I said.

"You probably feel just as broken as I do." He said.

"I dont think its quite the same thing Connor. Cannon chose not to be with me. Kimberly didn't have a choice, but yes it broke me, more then I thought." I said as I thought about what Cody and I did in Paris. Cody and I haven't said a word about Paris since we got here. There has been so much going on and I wanted to talk about it, but I just sat it on the back burner. Cody took a different room. I thought for sure he would want to be in the same room with me, but when he didn't show up I just let it go. He probably believes it was a big mistake. I couldn't worry about that right now. This wasnt about me. After Connor ate he went to the couch and laid down. I laid down next to him and turned the tv on. I fell asleep with him.

Kimberly's funeral was three days later. There were a ton of people there. I didn't realize what this woman meant to people. Cody had told me that he had let Cannon know what was going on and I thought that maybe Cannon would show and be here for his brother, but sadly he wasnt here. Cody and I stood with Connor. When we got back to Connors home. Cody told us he needed to talk to us. We sat in the living room. For the past couple of days, Cody and Connor would spend a lot of time sitting together on the back porch and I would just watch from the sidelines as they bonded together. It was sad to see Cannon not sitting with them. The three of them were so close at one point. I just didn't understand what had happened.

"So I never got to take care of the business I had in Paris. I have to get back out there." He said.

"Your leaving?" Connor said. Cody nodded at us. I just sat there I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing.

"April, Would you like for me to set you up with a flight home?" He asked me. I looked at him and then I looked to Connor. He looked lost.

"I think I'm going to stay with Connor a while longer," I said and Connor looked up at me. Cody smiled and started to walk out of the room.

"You dont have to stay with me April," Connor said.

"I know I don't, but I want to," I said. I got up and headed to find Cody. I needed to talk to him before he took off. I saw the room he was staying had the door open. I took a step inside and Cody was packing his things. "Cody," I said and he looked up at me. I walked in and closed the door behind me.

"Yes, April?' He said.

"I think we should talk," I said. I watched him sigh. He walked over to me. He reached out and touched my cheek.

"I think its good of you to take of him for a while. You have such a beautiful heart." I leaned into his hand on my face.

"What about us?" I asked. I needed to know how he felt.

"Let's not talk about that right now. You need to be here for him right now. I believe if anyone can make him better it's you." He said. I took a deep breath and nodded at him. "I'll be back as soon as I can. For now, be good to him." He said. He kissed my lips and grabbed his thing and headed out. Before he left he gave his brother a big hug and I smiled at them. Connor cloesed the door and came back to the living room.

"Pizza?" He said with a smile. I nodded at him and followed him into the kitchen.
