I could hear a lot of beeping when I opened my eyes. I felt like I was hit by a train. I looked around the room when my eyes started to clear. My mother and father were talking with some doctors and my grams was asleep next to me holding my hand.
"Grams," I said as best as I could. She opened her eyes and looked right at me.
"April!" She said aloud. "Oh, my god sweetheart. You scared us so bad." She said and my parents came running over to my side. My grandma tossed her arms around me and I cried out in pain. "I'm sorry." She said and backed away. My mother was kissing my face and my dad was holding my hand.
"What happened?" I asked them and they all looked at me. Then the doctor came walking over to me.
"Hello Ms. Blooms, I'm Doctor Jones. Do you remember anything about your accident?" She asked me. I tried to remember what had happened, but all I could think of was Connor coming to pick me up.
"I remember having to walk home from school and my friend Connor was on his way to pick me up. I remember a car coming behind me and then I can't remember anything else."I said.
"Someone hit you with their car April. It was a hit and run and if it wasn't for your friend Connor. You might not have made it." Doctor Jones said. "You have three broken ribs and a broken arm and a very nasty cut on the back of your head. It caused you to lose a lot of blood and you had to have surgery." She explained everything to me and that I had been out for two days. She also told me I would be here for a while. After we talked she excused herself. My mother was crying and my dad was hugging her.
"Cody and Connor have been here on and off for the last two days and so has Rosey." My mother said. "Would you like to see them?" She asked.
"Are they here now?" I asked. She looked at her watch.
"Yep school is out I know they're out there." She said. My father walked out of the room. A few seconds later all three of them came walking in. Cody and Rosey came running to my side while Connor stood in the back. I had a hard time reading his expression. After Cody and Rosey smothered me in hugs and kisses. I looked over at Connor. I smiled at him.
"Thank you, Connor. I hear you saved my life." I said. Cody and Rosey moved aside and I motioned for Connor to come to me. He slowly walked over to me and I could see the hurt in his eyes.
"I didn't get there in time." He said.
"Is that what that face is for. Connor, you stop that right now. How could you have known? Please don't beat yourself up over this." I said and took his hand in mine. He gave my hand a small squeeze.
"I'm sorry April." He said.
"Connor stop that, you saved my life. Remember that." I said. The next week went by slowly and I was ready to go home. I was so sick of being in this bed. Rosey, Connor, and Cody come by every day with food and homework. They stay and keep me company. Today however I got a different visitor. As I was stuffing my face with chips. Cannon walked into the room. I was surprised to see him. "Cannon, what are you doing here?" I asked him. He pulled a chair out next to my bed and took a seat.
"Now that your doing better I thought we could get back to work." He said. Are you kidding me? I said to myself.
"That's the only reason why you're here?" I asked. He seemed to be struggling with his thoughts.
"Are you okay April?" He asked me. I smiled at him.
"Yes Cannon, I'm okay," I said. " Thank you for asking," I said smiling at him. Still, I got no smile in return.
"Are you up for some work? If not I can come back tomorrow." He said.
"No, it's okay we can work now," I said and tried to set myself up. Cannon stood up right away and helped me, also a surprise. We worked for about an hour and Cannon stood up and said it was enough for today.
"Will you come back?" I asked him.
"Yes April, I will." He said. "Oh and April, I'm sorry." He said just before he started to leave the room.
"Sorry for what Cannon?" I asked him. He stopped at the door and turned and looked back at me.
"I'm sorry I left you to walk that day, I didn't know." He said. Before I could say anything he walked out the door. I felt terrible because his brothers must have been hard on him and I was going to give them a piece of my mind for it. Later that night I was falling asleep watching some dumb reality show. Something about someone's dress or someone's honeymoon. I don't know. When I heard the door open. I looked over to see Cody walk in.
"Hey, you," I said and tried to sit up.
"Hey." He said.
"What are you doing here so late?" I asked him.
"I couldn't sleep and I just wanted to see you." He said.
"Did you give Cannon a hard time about me?" I asked him. He kind of smiled and took a seat next to my bed.
"No, but Connor did. They got into a fight." Cody said. I just rolled my eyes.
"It wasn't anyone fault but the person who hit me," I said.
"About that, do you know anyone who would do that?" Cody asked me.
"I have no idea, I didn't think I had been here long enough to make someone hate me that much. For all, we know it could have been an accident and the person got scared and took off." I said.
"I mean yeah that's a possibility, but I don't know something just don't feel right," Cody said.
"The only person I know that hates me is Layla, but you know her better then I do. Is she capable of something like this?" I asked Cody. He took a seat back and you could tell he was thinking.
"Layla is a crazy bitch, but I don't know if she is that crazy. Connor knows her best. They have dated off and on for the last two years. It's not like this is the first time they have broken up. Although, this is the first time there has been someone else." He said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean you, Connor likes you if you haven't noticed that. There has never been someone in Layla's way. After about a week or so. They are already back together, but now there's you and he hasn't even reached out to her." Cody said.
"But I'm not with Connor," I said.
"That doesn't matter April, In Laylas eyes, he wants you and not her." He said.
"Great so Layla is trying to kill me," I said and just took a deep breath. Cody just smiled and took my hand.
"We don't know that for sure, but I'm going to talk with my brother. I'd like to know what he thinks. April, can I ask you a question?" Cody asked. I just nodded at him. "Have you done anything with Connor?" He asked me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean you and I have kissed. Have you kissed my brother?" Cody asked. I smiled at him.
"Yes, I have kissed your brother, Cody, but that's all that has happened," I said and Cody's face lit up.
"But Cody please listen to me. I care about you and your brother but in light of everything that has gone on. I'm not in any place to be anyone's girlfriend right now. I hope you can understand that. I'm grateful to have your friendship and Connors. I hope that's enough for now." I said. Cody smiled and nodded his head at me.
"It's enough, you're the most real person I know April. I wouldn't do anything to change that. Your like the only person in my life that I can trust. I know you won't lie to me and your honesty means the world to me." He said. "I know that Connor feels the same way about you and I think Cannon knows it too." He said. I smiled when he said that.
"Thank you, Cody," I said.
"But I am the cutest brother, so you remember that." He said. I just rolled my eyes, but I giggled at the same time. I don't know what time Cody left. I fell asleep and when I woke up. Cody was gone. I have been here in the hospital now for a little over two weeks. Thanks to my friends. I have been able to keep up with my school work. Cannon has been here at least five times. His personality has been pretty much the same, but I think I'm weighing him down a little. I still haven't got my smile out of him. That's been a goal of mine. I gave Connor a lot of shit for being so hard on Cannon. I think I actually hurt Connor's feelings some, but he was out of line for hitting Cannon over it. I know Connor was upset, but he took it out on the wrong person.
The last thing I want is for the brothers to fight over me. Friendship means the world to me and I care a lot about the Taylor brothers. Rosey has become like my closest friend and I trust her. It's good to see her becoming friends with Cody and Connor as well. Most of the time she is with them when they show up every day. I have only seen her alone here maybe twice. I think she likes Cody, but I'm not too sure. I haven't spoken to her about it.
I finally get to go home today. I still can't go back to school for at least one more week. It sucks, I have been out of school for almost a month. My mother was packing all my things up and my father was talking about a surprise he had waiting at home for me. I had also cracked a couple of bones in my ankle and the doctors didn't see it. I had got up one night on my own and hit the ground. Ever since then I haven't been moving around to good. If it wasn't for my ankle I could go back to school sooner. My father being the sweet man that he is. Picked me up and set me in the wheelchair.
Once we got back home I noticed all the cars that were out in front of my house. "What did you guys do?" I said.
"Hey don't blame us. Take this up with your friends." My mother said. As my dad was getting my wheelchair out of the car. Cody, Connor, and Rosey. Came out on to the porch. I just smiled as both Cody and Connor had flowers in their hands. Rosey rolled her eyes and smiled as I came closer to them.
"What are you guys doing?" I said with a huge smile on my face.
"Were welcoming you home," Connor said.
"Yeah, these two jerks got jealous over the flowers that Bradly and I brought. So they ran out and got more." Rosey said.
"Liar," Cody said. But I knew who the real liar was.
"You need to do something about your friend April, she is a pain in the ass," Connor said. I started laughing.
"You guys are the ones hanging out with her," I said.
"Excuse me but no, she is the one hanging out with us," Connor said.
"Whatever," Rosey said. "Anyways, I'm so glad you are finally home. I hate the hospital." She said as she came over and gave me a hug. I hugged her back feeling the same way. Both Connor and Cody came over to my side and picked up the chair and set me on the porch.
"Show-offs," I said with a smile. I looked around the yard. "Who else is here?" I asked. Everyone looked at me funny.
"What do you mean?" Rosey said.
"Well, I see your car and Cody's truck. I see my parent's car and Connors bike. Who is driving the red honda accord?" I asked. Everyone turned and looked at my dad.
"Well, you are, baby." My dad said.
"What?" I asked with excitement all over my face.
"We all felt you needed a car of your own. No one wants you to walk anywhere. If these two had it their way. They would have got you a car. I wouldn't let them and went out and got you one myself." My father said. I felt the tears sting my eyes.
"Thank you, daddy," I said.
