“Why does everyone keep calling us crazy?” Dexton smirked pulling me into his arms. I sighed wrapping my arms around him leaning up for a kiss.
“Because they don’t see how amazing we are together. Riley it's me and you against the world.”
“The three of us.” I smiled as he pulled away looking me over.
“Tonight, couldn’t get any better. I got to marry the girl of my dreams and find out we’re having a baby. I love you so damn much.”
“I love you too.”
“I can’t wait to watch you with her.”
“I just wish you could experience this with me.” he sighed resting his forehead to mine. He is leaving for boot camp in just a couple of weeks. If everything works out the way we hope, he should be here for the birth of the baby.
“I hope it’s a girl, so she looks just like her momma.” I smiled leaning pressing my lips to his.
I raced down the hallway tears streaming down my face. Finally finding his room I stopped in the doorway looking him over. It’s been a month since the last time I saw him. Every piece of me wanted to scream at him and leave. The last time I saw him he was telling me he cheated on me.
I looked over the man who resembled my husband. Before leaving for boot camp he decided to get a tattoo ring. He was worried something would happen to it or lose it. When he came home from the hospital, he decided he wanted to get a ring.
Taking his hand in mine he stirred turning to look at me.
“Hi, wife.” He smirked groaning in pain.
“I’m sorry I didn’t bring Harley. I didn’t want her to see you like this.”
“Tell her I love her. I’ll never forget the day she was born she was so perfect.”
“Yes, she is.” Tears filled my eyes seeing how much pain he was in.
“I’m so sorry. I’m surprised you should up.”
“Dex please.” I cried.
“No, I became everything I said I wasn’t going to be. You were always supposed to be my only and I messed that up.”
“As messed up as everything is you are still my husband. You have no idea how much I would love to scream and cry right now. Cheating is one thing but getting yourself killed is another. What the hell were you thinking, you have a daughter that needs you.”
“You’re right. Riley, I’m so sorry. I feel like I never made it out of the hell. I’m drowning and I can’t breathe anymore.” He cried as I moved closer sitting next to him on the bed.
“Dex you should have talked to me or your therapist.”
“It’s too late now.” I shook my head looking him over as if it was the last time. A knock on the door made me turn and look at Blake. I nodded as he came over standing next to me.
“Where’s Caitlyn?” I asked needing a break.
“She’ll be here in a minute.”
“I’ll let you two talk.” I got up as Blake pulled me into his arms hugging me. I pulled away making my way in the hallway.
“Riley.” I turned to find my best friend in her pajama’s. Looking her over I realized her belly was smaller and she had her hospital bracelet.
“You had the twins.” She nodded.
“Yea they're upstairs. What happened?” tears filled my eyes as she pulled me tight into her arms.
“It’s not looking good. I don’t know what I’m going to do. What about Harley?”
“We’re here for you, anything you need. Riley, what happened?”
“He was out drinking and ran into the guardrail. Luckily, he didn’t hit anyone just himself. I’m debating if I should bring Harley.” I pulled away finding her in her tears.
“Give him a reason to fight. He needs his girls.” Blake came back out looking over Caitlyn worriedly.
“He’s asking for you, Riley. I’m going to call the guys and his parents. Cait I know how much you want to be here, but you just gave birth to two babies.”
“Blake I’m fine.”
“He’s right. I’ll be up there later for a break.” She nodded hugging me before heading back upstairs. I walked back into the room sitting next to Dex. He reached for my hand, bringing to his chest.
“Baby you got to fight.” I sobbed as he opened his eyes.
“I will always fight for my girls.” I wanted to scream liar. If he fought for us, we wouldn’t be in this hospital right now.
“Did you see the twins yet?”
“No, maybe we can go see them later.” Tears filled my eyes knowing that probably will never happen. The babies are too little to come down and see him.
“Maybe we could have another one.”
“Dex.” He had no idea how much I wanted another baby. Since Harley was born, we always talked about giving her a little sibling. Everything in me was telling me he wasn’t going to make it through this. His body has been through enough.
“Lay with me.”
“Are you crazy, I don’t want to make it worse.”
“You can’t. I’m already damaged.”
“Don’t say something like that. You’re going to pull through you have to pull through.” I sobbed. He squeezed my hand, pulling me closer.
“You deserve so much better than me.”
“Let me decide that. After the hell you put me through, I still want you.”
“I want to see Harley.” I nodded texting Kinsley asking her if she could bring Harley. Dominic was already on his way, and I’m sure Kinsley wants to see the twins too.
“Kinsley is going to bring her. Dom’s coming with her too.” He nodded the nurses came in checking him over.
“How’s the pain?”
“The doctor should be in soon; we’re going to take you up for surgery.”
“Daddy.” I heard our little girl. The door opened and she came rushing in. I caught her in my arms before she jumped on the bed.
“Baby daddy hurts right now.”
“Can I kiss and make it better?” My heart broke for our little girl. I wish more than anything she could just kiss everything away. She pushed out of my arms trying to get closer to her dad. Lately, she hasn’t seen him much. The doctor came in making Dex look up at him.
“Alright baby, daddy has to go with the doctor.”
“I love you daddy. The doctor makes you better.”
“Love you, princess, always remember how much daddy loves you.”
“Dex you fight, you hear me. I love you baby come back to me.”
“Always I love you. Go see those twins.” I nodded before kissing him. I grabbed Harley’s hand taking her into the hallway.
“Mommy, is daddy going to be okay?” I got down to her level as the tears filled our eyes.
“Honey I don’t know. Daddy is a fighter so he is going to do everything he can to come back to us.” she nodded as I pulled her against my chest.
