Chapter Three

“Come on Max, You’re going to be late if you don’t hurry up.” I yell down the hall. Zie and I have been going out for two weeks now and this week they are staying at my house, which I haven’t exactly told my parents about. Max rushes down the hall and grabs my hand as I grab Zie’s and my backpacks. Zie is standing by the door waiting for us and I kiss her before letting her head outside.

We drop off Max before going to pick up Alex and then Malissa. “Hey man, we need to talk later.” Alex tells me as he gets in.

“I told Malissa, you should probably tell Alex.” Zie whispers.

“Okay, but I need to tell you something first. Zie and I... We had sex.” Alex’s mouth drops open as Malissa gets in.

“Umm... My first night there. Sorry man, but I wasn’t sure Zie wanted you to know but apparently she doesn’t mind.” i look over at Zie and lower my voice so only she can hear me. “I think we should tell them about the stupid project.” Zie bites her lip and nods.

“There’s one more thing that we both need to tell you...” Zie trails off as the our friends look over at us.

“The reason we started dating is because of our project in Chemistry. But that’s not the reason we are together now. We decided by the first week of us dating that project or not we are together because we want to be.” I finish up for her. Malissa glares at me and Alex shakes his head.

“How long is this project?” He asks.

“Til the end of this month. Look we would have told you before, but we aren’t allowed. If anyone finds out you guys knew why we started dating, we get zeros on the project.” I look at Malissa and hope that she understands.

“Also, you’re our best friends and we felt bad not telling you before anyone else. Please don’t be mad you guys. Honestly we haven’t worked on our project once. Not the report or the journal. We don’t see that there is a project at all anymore so we may take a zero anyways.” Malissa and Alex laugh and shake their heads at us.

“It’s all good girl. We aren’t mad, just shocked. Plus I know you love him. You were a damn virgin before him. Though this definitely explains why you two started dating.” We all laugh at that. Alex punches my shoulder and kisses Zies’ cheek.

“Hey, did you two at least use protection?” Alex asks.

“No... It’s not like she’ll get pregnant this time. I’m the odds of it are like one in a hundred.” Zie’s laugh is nervous, but I push my worry away as we get out of the car for school. Class starts in five minutes so we head to our lockers to drop off our stuff and head to first hour.

“I love you Ace.”

“I love you too princess. Come on lets see if we can actually learn something today.”

Second hour comes around and Alex can’t stop teasing me. “Will you shut up you asshat.” I joke, not minding his teasing. “Hey, but seriously, can we go shopping for the rings before the end of the month. I want to propose when we tell the class our project.”

“Yea, if you can be away from her for an hour.”

“So... Is it just me or is Zie getting fatter?” Eric asks. I look over at Alex in exasperation. I didn’t think Eric would say anything else after I smashed his face in.

“Dude, really? Didn’t he show you last week not to mess with him?” Alex growls. Eric just laughs.

“I don’t listen to suicidal people. They’re a bit psycho don’t you think?” I roll my eyes at Alex and look at Eric.

“Shut your mouth. you’re an idiot and I swear you’ll have more than your face smashed in this time.”

“You wouldn’t get so defensive if it weren’t true. Plus I hear you stayed a whole week at Zie’s house. Why else would you be there.”

“Who told you that?” Alex asks as I sit back.

“His mom. She still thinks that we should be friends and wants me to change his mind about Zie. Isn’t that sad? Even his own mom doesn’t approve of Zie.” I look down at my hands that are balled up tightly.

“So now you’re a stalker? Stay away from my house or I will get a restraining order.” I spit. I’m way more pissed at my mom now than him, but he’s still here. Alex pulls on my arm and we leave before anything else can be said.

“Dude, calm down.” Alex says as I slam my fist into a locker.

“I can’t. He went to far this time. I don’t want Zie to get hurt in anyway. I love her and and... Ugh!” I punch the locker again and Alex pulls me away.

“That’s why I wanted to talk to you. We need to go ring shopping. You should propose to her at the end of the month. Shut all these idiots up.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry bro.” Alex looks down at my hand and sighs.

“Fuck Ace, what the Hell are you going to tell Zie?” I look down and see that my hand is swollen like a softball and wince.

“Maybe she wont notice it?” I ask hopefully. Alex just rolls his eyes and starts walking in the direction of the girls classroom. We sit down and chat about Eric and the best way to take care of him without hurting him, but can’t find anything.

“You two need to stop walking out of class.” Malissa says pulling on Alexs arm. Zie grabs my swollen hand and I try not to thrust my arm away. Alex smirks at me as I slap his arm.

“Umm... What happened to your hand Ace? Did you get in a fight?” Zie looks pissed as she examines my hand.

“Technically, and I lost. It was with a locker.” Malissa turns around and laughs at me before quieting because of the look on Zie’s face.

“Why Ace? I don’t want you in trouble or hurt. Is that so hard to ask of you...” She trails off and I look at her in shock.

“Zie, I’m sorry. I’m fine okay. Eric was being a jerk and saying shit about you and you know how I feel about people talking shit about you. He’s been stalking me for petes sake.”

“Oh...” She takes a deep breath and tugs on my arm. “I’m sorry, I just don’t feel to well and I shouldn’t be taking that out on you. I love you.” I pull her closer and kiss her.

“I love you too princess. Let’s get to class. See you next hour Alex.” Malissa, Zie and I hurry to class and take our seats just as the bell rings.

At the end of the day Zie and I drop off Alex and Malissa and head to pick up Max. “I should probably tell you that I haven’t told my parents about this arrangement yet.” I say as Max gets buckled.

“Really Ace!?... Oh God...”

“It’ll be fine. I’m spoiled since I’m an only child. Trust me.” Zie rolls her eyes and drives in silence. Once at my house I grab their duffle bags that will stay at my house and grab Max’s hand as Zie scoots closer to me. Mom and Dad are in the living room watching t.v. but turn it off when I come in.

“Ace... Why do they have bags with them?” Mom asks. I motion for Zie to take Max down stairs.

“Mom, didn’t I tell you that Zie and Max are going to spend the week here?” I say sweetly.

“How could you? You haven’t been home in a week.” Dad points out and I glare at him.

“Well I meant to ask you guys. I did, but I’ve already promised them they could stay and I can’t break that promise.” My Mom crosses her arms. “Please you guys. Those two mean everything to me. And if you say no I’m packing up my stuff and moving to there house permanently.”

“Fine Ace... You do whatever you want anyways. Just know you are going to get screwed over in the end. What will you do if you get her pregnant? You don’t have a job. You can’t support her and a child.”

“I will stay by her side no matter what happens. I love her.”

“Will she stay by yours though?” Dad intervenes and I feel like I’ve been shot.

“Yes. I have no doubts that she will stay. Now I’m joining them.” I storm downstairs and Zie hugs me tight. “Sorry.” I mutter. She pulls me to the bed and we sit down as I hold them close.

“Don’t be. I’ve never been happier than right now. No guy has ever told there parents they love me... I love you Ace and I won’t leave you.”

“I know that Zie. Have you noticed that we’ve been fighting a lot more lately? Well you get angrier at me quicker that is.”

“Yea, I’m sorry Ace. I love you and I hate that we are fighting. I just don’t feel to well right now.”

“Okay. I just wanted to make sure nothing else was going on. I love you too princess.” Mom calls for me to set the table and I signal for them to follow me. “Max you need to pull out five spoons, five forks, and five knives. Zie you can get plates and cups.”

“Daddy? I want to sit by you.” I smile as Zie rolls her eyes at me.

“He was supposed to be a momma’s boy Ace.” She jokes as I slide past her to set the napkins and other objects on the table.

“Of course squirt. As long as Mommy doesn’t mind.” She shakes her head as Mom and Dad come in.

“Ace, get the food on the table.” Mom grumbles. Zie frowns at me and gives me a worried look. I just motion for her and Max to sit down as I grab the food out of the oven. Dad pulls me to the side after the food is on the table and I look up at him.

“Ace… You’re a smart man. I know you wouldn’t be with Zie the way you are unless you were sure of her. Just be careful son. I love you and I don’t want to see you so hurt again. If you need anything just ask me. I’m here for you.” I smile and give him a hug.

“Thanks Dad. That means a lot to me. And I am sure of her. I plan on asking her to marry me at the end of the month. I really do love her Dad.” He shakes his head and laughs.

“Just don’t tell your Mom that plan quite yet.” We join the others at the table and Max grabs my hand.

“Aren’t we going to pray Daddy?” He asks. I ruffle his hair and grab Zie’s hand.

“Pray? Since when do you pray?” Mom asks in disgust.

“Since I got a family of my own and realized what was important Mom. You don’t have to join in, but it would be the respectful thing to do.” Dad takes Zie’s hand and she smiles at him. Max reaches out his hand for my mom to take but she shakes her head.

“I don’t know what has gotten into you mister. First you spend a week at this girls house and then you come home with her and her brother who is calling you daddy.”

“That would be because we adopted him. He is our kid Mom whether you like it or not. Now either take his hand or don’t. Either way you need to be quiet so we can pray.” She scoffs and Max looks over at me. I let go of Zie’s hand, taking his outstretched hand and placing it on my lap. I then replace my hand in Zie’s and bow my head as Max starts the prayer.

“Father in Heaven, please bless the food that is before us, although it’s not anything that I like.” I squeeze his hand. “Thank you for my mommy and daddy who love me no matter what. Thank you for sending us an angel to protect us always.”

“Also thank you that we are getting through school and that we have such good friends like Alex and Malissa. I don’t know what I would do without those two.” Zie adds.

“Thank you for giving me a second chance at life. I couldn’t have asked for a better one. These last two weeks have been the best times in my life, and thanks to you I know there are more to come. We love you father, in Jesus name we pray…” I finish up as we all say “Amen” except for Mom. I stare at the one women I have always respected in disgust and stand up.

“I need a moment. I’ll be back shortly.” I say mostly to Zie. She stares after me and I know she wants to chase after me and make me feel better, but knows that I’m not ready for that right now. I walk downstairs and grab my phone, dialing Alex’s number.

“Hey man, what’s wrong?” He asks as he picks up. I groan.

“My mom is being a complete bitch about Zie and Max and I’m ready to tell them to grab their bags. I’m not going to stay where they aren’t wanted man.” Alex is silent for a moment before sighing.

“I’m going to crash your party. Then your mom will be more focused on me then Zie.”

“Alex… I’m not sure-” He hangs up and I sigh before heading back upstairs. Zie glances at me and I kiss her cheek.

“Daddy, I don’t like it here. Can we go home.” My mom gives me a look and I return it with a glare.

“Yea little man. We can. I’m not going to make you two stay where you feel unwanted. Shoot, I feel unwanted and they’re my parents. Go on downstairs and grab your bag.” Max goes running, but Zie stays where she is.

“Ace we don’t have to go. It’s fine.” She whispers. I grab her hand and pull her to me as I look at my mom.

“Yes we do. My dad has been great about this, but until my mother can act right, we won’t be back here. Come on princess.” I pull her along with me and we grab everything we need and hurry back upstairs. I give my dad a hug goodbye and give my mom one last cold glare. Just as I go to open the door, there is a knock. I open it to an out of breath Alex and laugh.

“Come on man. We’re going back to our place. This just didn’t work out.” Alex punches me.

“Sometimes I hate you. There better be food, I’m hungry.” We all laugh as we meet up with Malissa who is at the car already. Zie throws her the keys as we all pile in and head home.

Back at Zie’s house we make burgers and fries and sit at the table to eat. Alex keeps playing around and teasing us. “You know Zie, if you have a kid with Ace, we better hope it gets all of your genes. Otherwise it’s going to be a nightmare for all of us.” He jokes. I stick out my tongue and pull Zie close to me.

“Shut your mouth Alex. That’s not true.” She growls. Malissa sighs as I look in between my girlfriend and my best friend.

“Princess, he was joking.” Zie glares at me and pulls away.

“You are always taking his side over mine. I’m your girlfriend not him Ace!” I take her hand and squeeze it.

“I’m not taking anybodys side. He was joking, but you’re right it’s not true. Calm down Zie.” She just shakes her head and runs off down the hall. I start to get up to follow her, but Malissa is already halfway there. “Dude, something is up with her. She never used to get mad this easy… Does this mean that she’s going to break up with me soon?”

Alex rolls his eyes. “No man, I highly doubt that. She’s probably on her period. Malissa get’s irritated and hurt easily too when it’s that time of the month. I normally try to steer clear of her when she’s on it, but you’re shit out of luck.” I look over at Max who is asleep on the couch and sigh.

“Shouldn’t you and Malissa be getting home soon? I don’t need your parents hating me too.” Alex laughs and stands up.

“Yea, I better go get her. Love ya man and sorry for causing some trouble around here.” I shrug and give him a hug as he heads off to get Malissa. I go over to Max, but when I go to pick him up he starts crying.

“Hey… What’s wrong bud?” He hugs me tight.

“Are you guys splitting up? I don’t want you too.”

“No, we aren’t. I promise. Nothing could make me split up with her. I love her and I love you. Okay?”

“Okay. I love you Daddy.”

“I love you too Max, now get to bed kiddo.” Alex and Malissa come out just as Max is heading down the hall and he gives them hugs tonight. Malissa gives me a hug.

“She’s just tired Ace. No worries. Come on Alex.” Alex slaps my back and follows Malissa out. I lock up the door behind them and head to Zie’s room. She’s sitting on her bed crying and won’t look at me as I sit down. I pull her to me and we just sit there for awhile.

“Zie… I don’t know how to take this. I feel like you’re pulling away from me and I don’t know what to do.” She just kisses me. As it deepens she slips my shirt off and lays me back.

“I’m sorry Ace. I’m not meaning to. I love you so much it hurts at times. Forgive me?” I smirk under her lips and just nod. “Can we Ace? I know we don’t have protection, but I don’t think it matters all that much.”

“I can’t deny you.”

The next morning on the way to school Zie and I are constantly touching. Whether it’s just our hands or shoulders it didn’t matter as long as some part of us was touching. Alex and Malissa just stare as we sit at the garden with Zie wrapped around me.

“Please tell me that you two didn’t have sex again.” Malissa jokes. Zie and I just laugh as they throw there hands up in the air. I kiss Zie and she bites my lip.

“You two are officially gross. I mean come on bro. We are right here ya know.” I look over at Alex and sigh.

“Sorry Alex. So are we still up for guys night this weekend?” The girls stare at us and I know we’re in trouble.

“When did you two decide to do a boys night?” Malissa asks. Alex pokes her side and glances at me to answer.

“Since about the time we became friends. We thought you two would be happy, but I guess if you’re not we can cancel…” I trail off and Zie slaps my arm.

“No, you two have been by our sides twenty four seven. Especially you Ace. Go have some fun.” I kiss her and hug her tightly to me.

“Thanks princess. I love you. How are you feeling today though?”

“Fine Ace. I was just tired last night.” Alex mutters something under his breath and I roll my eyes.

“We should get to class.” Malissa says before any arguments start.
