3. Please, Don't Leave Me

-*Adelyn’s P.O.V*-

I was woken up by Alex.

“Where here,” he smiled as he stood up, I followed after him and we were escorted off the plane.

“Is aunt Gloria meeting us?” I asked as I grabbed my suitcases from baggage claim.

“Nope, she dropped off my new truck this morning, we need to stop at the front desk to grab the keys.” we made our way to one of the front desks and his keys were eventually tracked down,

He smirked as he jingled his keys; a small red ribbon around them.

I frowned crossing my arms, “Do I get a new car?”

“Nope, you get my old car.” I didn’t mind, his car was basically new.

We finally made it outside, “Where’s Reid?” I asked looking behind me, he was nowhere to be found.

Just then Alex took his phone out of his pocket, “He said he got picked up by his dad, some kind of emergency...he said he’d come by later.”

I nodded, it was weird that he’d just leave like that, he didn’t even say bye.

We arrived at our new house, it was beautiful and big. “So this is home now..” I whispered to myself as I dragged my suitcases behind me.

“Mom already assigned rooms, your boxes, and other stuff were shipped here already.” Alex let me know as he unlocked the front door.

We walked into the house, boxes littered the living room, as soon as we walked in the smell of fresh paint and wood floor cleaner filled my nose.

“What do you think?” Alex asked, setting down some suitcases.

“It’s beautiful...” a few family pictures already decorated the walls, I smiled as I looked at the picture of me, my mom and Alex, next to the family portrait, there was a picture of me and my mom. We looked somewhat like our mother because we’re biracial, but since we grew up with only my mother we only know about our Mexican heritage, we don’t know much about our German and Scottish heritage.

“Your room was painted, mom sent the swatches to aunt Gloria,” he let me know as left the front door for more suitcases. I grabbed mine and headed upstairs, Alex said my room was on the third floor, and that my door had a cursive A painted on it, entered the beautiful muted-violet room, my bed and furniture was already set up and boxes littered the room. I worked on hanging up my clothes and such, a few hours later I had decided to change into shorts and a t-shirt.

I continued to rummage through boxes until I came across a box with a pink x on it, I cut through the tape and looked at all the things inside, it was full of small gifts and other things I had received from Dylan. I sighed as I opened a small black box, it had two rings inside, I and Dylan had gotten matching ring sets on our 2 year anniversary.

I had stopped wearing mine but Dylan continued to wear his set, I shook my head as I closed the velvet case and placed it back in the cart board box. I grabbed the box and placed it on the highest shelf in my closet.

I hummed along as Brendon Urie’s voice filled the room, his beautiful voice was interrupted by a few knocks; I pressed pause on my phone as I opened my door, it was Reid.

“Hey Adelyn, I’m so sorry about earlier, my dad needed my help with something.” he apologized as soon as the door was fully opened, I sighed and shook my head but gave him a small smile, I moved to the side letting him in.

“I brought food as a peace offering..” he smiled, showing me a McDonald’s bag he had been holding behind his back and a recyclable cup holder with two drinks.

“Apology accepted,” I smiled.
We sat out on the balcony and ate as we talked, “How are your mom and dad doing?” I asked before taking another sip from my drink.
“They’re doing alright, busy with work...your mom?”
“The same...still as hard working and amazing as ever.” I sighed, I missed her so much, I would trade everything I had to just have her home.
“You know she does it for you and your brother right? She does it because she loves you,” he says, his hand holding mine- I gave his hand a small squeeze and nodded.
“I’m really glad you moved here Adelyn, it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to talk like this.” He smiled, I nodded.
“I’m glad I did too...I am going to miss my friends but they can always visit.” ′You’re also going to miss Dylan..′ my subconscious told me.

After a while he left and I decided to check my phone.
I had 9 missed calls from Dylan and one from Jade, I also had a few voicemails, I called Jade back first, the phone rang a few times before it went to voicemail. I sighed and ended the call, my thumb hovered over the voicemail play button, anxiety building in my chest. I finally pressed play and brought the phone to my ear.
I’m not going to let you leave me Adelyn...I love you, what ever happened to building our lives together? Pick up your phone.′

I’m getting inpatient Adelyn, I swear to God if you don’t answer I will come looking for you.′

‘You think you’ll be happy without me?’ his voice audibly now aggravated as the messages progressed.
‘I’ve been here for you, nobody else will love you as I do, you want to know why?’ I held me breathe through the silence which seemed to last hours.
‘Because you’re damaged, nobody wants something broken no matter how beautiful and valuable it may appear.’ I let the phone slip from my hands as it fell on the bed, his words replayed in my head. ‘Damaged...broken..’
I jumped slightly as the phone began to vibrate, I hesitantly picked it up and answered.
“What?” I asked, trying to sound as normal as possible.
“I’m sorry...” His now soothing voice said.
“I was angry when I left those messages, I miss you Adds, please, don’t leave me. Regresa a casa mi Amor, te extraño.” (come back home my love, I miss you)
I closed my eyes, no, I wasn’t going to let him control me anymore.
“No, I’m not going back, I’m happy out here, why can’t you just understand that? I’m changing my phone number and I’m never going back home. Good bye Dylan.” I hung up and I could hear a loud silence in the room. I was brought back by a few knocks, I walked over to my door and opened it, it was Alex.

I smiled, “Hey, what’s up?” I asked, motioning for him to come in, he sat at my desk chair and I sat on my bed.

“I just wanted to see how you’re settling, how are you feeling?” He asked I faked a smile, something I had become very good at.
“Everything is perfect, I’m excited to explore.”

He sighed in relief, “That’s great, I know you’ve been having a rough couple months and I knew this move would be hard for you but it’s what mom thought was best for us,” I nodded, understanding where he was coming from.

“I’m okay Alex, don’t worry about me.”
He pulled me up into a hug, “You’re my baby sister, of course, I’m going to worry.” I rolled my eyes but hugged him back.
“You’re only older by 10 months,” I mumbled against his chest as he squeezed the life out of me.
He finally let me go and ruffled up my hair. “I’m still older,” he stuck out his tongue and left my room. I rolled my eyes at my ‘older brother’ but couldn’t help but smile. He’s a good brother and selfishly enough I always worry him with my problems. I sighed as I grabbed some towels and headed to the bathroom. I turned on the water and stripped. I sat on the edge of the bath tub as it filled, a few memories surfaced. I shook my head as I turned off the water and stripped down before getting in. The warm water almost a good pain against my sore muscles. I looked down at myself and all I saw were bruises and scars, bruises around my wrists and arms, I closed my eyes as I hugged myself, they weren’t there anymore but I’d never be able to forget them.

I let myself sink down, my head underwater before floating back up, I let my head rest against the tub as I let myself relax.

I opened my eyes after a few minutes, or so I thought, the water was freezing, I got out quickly and drained the tub. Wrapping a towel around myself I stepped out into my bedroom,I changed into something warm and got into bed, drifting off into nothing.
The next morning I stood in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I heard the door bell. I quickly finished up and when down stairs, “Alex? Who’s at the door?”
He didn’t answer, maybe he went out and forgot his keys?
I opened the door and saw it was Alex, he had many many bags hanging from both arms, I quickly took some, relieving him from some of the weight. “You bought groceries? yourself?..” I asked in fake awe, he rolled his eyes.

“Haha, very funny sis.“I smiled and shook my head, setting the bags down.

“So you’re making breakfast?..” I asked, searching though the bags to see what he bought.
“Ugh, do I have to? I already had to go buy the food,” he groaned childishly.
“Alex, you really don’t think things through do you?” I shook my head but couldn’t hold back a smile
“I know! Let’s go out for breakfast!” He said excitedly as he took out his car keys.
Just as he said this, the sound of the door bell caught our attention-I answered the door, it was Reid, I smiled as I let him in.

“Good morning beautiful,” he smiled, walking in.

“Beautiful? Me? Awe I don’t know,” Alex says with a fake giggle, I was glad he distracted Reid from the blush on my cheeks.
“I wasn’t taking to you idiot,” Reid smiled, punching Alex in the arm, they began to fake fight until my lovely brother tripped over the coffee table and caused them both to fall on the couch-I bit my lip, holding back laughter as I took a picture.

“I’ll give you two some privacy,” I joked as I made my way towards the front door, Alex wiggled his eyebrows at Reid, causing Reid to instantly get off his brushing himself off of non-existent dust.

“Delete those pictures Addy,” Reid said as he tried to snatch my phone, I quickly moved around him and ran upstairs to my bedroom.

“No, I need these for future blackmail!” I yelled as I ran into my room.

“Adelyn come on.” he stalked towards me and I moved so that my bed stood between us.

“You’re going to have to pry it from my cold, dead hands,” I stated dramatically.

“That’s it Adelyn, you asked for it.” he chased me around my room until I was cornered.

“Hand over the phone and nobody’s reputation gets hurt.”

I rolled my eyes and shook my head, shoving my phone in my bra.

he bit his lip as he tried to keep a straight face.

“Was that supposed to stop me?” he asked a small smirk on his lips.

“You wouldn’t dare,” I said, slightly shocked.

“Wouldn’t I?” he whispered, his body inches from mine, his hands rested on the walls next to my head as he looked down at me.

I felt my heart beat quick as he whispered, “I’m going to ask you nicely, to delete the photos Adelyn.” he smiled, knowing he won as I handed him my phone as I pouted like a child.
