7. When The Party's Over

It was now 11:32 and Dylan hadn’t picked me up yet, we were supposed to go to the movies at 9 and he still hadn’t come, I called his phone multiple times and he hadn’t answered,I began to get worried and decided to go to his house and see if he was okay. I grabbed my sweater and walked out the door grabbing my skateboard off the steps and riding down the sidewalk. I finally got to Dylan’s house and saw that there was a party going on.

“What the hell...” I whispered to myself. I walked through the front gate, the smell of alcohol roaming in the air. I walked through the front door, music blasting loudly and people everywhere dancing and drinking. Someone backed into me causing them to spill their drink on me; I groaned and pushed them away. I saw Dylan talking to some random guys and I walked up to him.

“Dylan, what’s going on?” I asked, my irritation was obvious. “It’s a party babe loosen up why don’t you have a drink.” He smirked handing me a cup full of a disgusting smelling substance.

“No thanks.” I bit back, I looked for the stereo, eventually finding it and pulling the cord, a bunch of people started groaning and yelling for me to plug it back in.

“Really? Can’t even control your bitch and you want to be Captain of a whole team” one of the guys from the soccer team teased Dylan.

“Get out, all of you or I’m calling the cops!” I threatened and everyone began stumbling out the door; some people were passed out on the ground I went into the kitchen and grabbed a tub of water and threw it at them.

“What the fuck!” one of the girls yelled. “Get up, the party’s over,” I said tiredly when I finally made sure everyone was gone I prepared myself to face Dylan.

“We were supposed to go to the movies tonight remember?” I finally voiced my complaint.

“And I was supposed to be throwing a party but you just got rid of half the school in the middle of it!” he yelled at me.

“Well sorry, I don’t want my boyfriend to act like a drunk junkie!” I yelled back at him, he grabbed my arms and pinned me against the wall behind me.

“Don’t ever talk to me like that!” he yelled in my face. “I can talk to you however I want!” I yelled back. He punched the wall next to my head his fist going through.

“You’re drunk,” I said removing his hand from my arm.

“No shit.” He growled in annoyance, walking away from me and towards the kitchen.
This wasn’t like him, only when he was using or drinking.

“I’m telling your parents that you’re using again,” I said quietly but still loud enough for him to hear. He stopped in his tracks and turned around walking towards me, a cold look in his angel eyes making them look like blue flames consuming everything in their path, my courage included as I shrunk back.

His right hand captured my throat and pushed me against the wall, “You dare fucking say anything to anyone and you will regret it.” He growled.

His grip tightened, I whimpered as his nails dug into my skin. “Do you understand?” he hissed.

“Y-yes.” I managed to choke out his grip loosened and he walked over to his living room and slumped down on his couch. I stared after him for a while in shock; I turned towards the door and was about to walk out when he got up and pulled me back inside.

"Did I say you could leave?” he mocked.

“N-no but it’s late and I have to go home.” I had never seen him act like this, even when he was really gone.

“No, not tonight.” He looked me in the eyes, daring me to challenge him.

“Just text your mom and tell her you’re staying at Jade’s or something.” He said simply.

“O-okay.” I agreed, trying to keep my voice normal and steady.

"Give me your phone,” Dylan demanded.

“Why?” I questioned, instantly regretting it when his eyes met mine,

“I don’t want you to do anything stupid.” his overt distrust punching a hole in my heart, I handed him my phone. “Also I’m going to need your password, from now on I will check your messages whenever I feel like it’s necessary.” grabbing my free hand he led me upstairs.

"Here this shirt should fit you.” He said tossing me an old Def Leppard t-shirt. “I’m gonna go brush my teeth and you can send your mom that text,” he said tossing me my phone; I changed quickly and I sent my mom and Jade messages. Dylan walked out of the bathroom in some sweat pants and took my phone.

“What’s your pin?” he asked.

“I-It’s 0-9-1-6,” I said quickly.

"It’s the date when we met.,” he whispers, I smiled slightly and nodded. Dylan walked over to his bed and motioned for me to join him I tried staying on my side but he pulled me towards him, I turned to face him and he just smiled and kissed my nose. Even when he hurts me he makes me feel safe.

“I love you.” He whispered. “I love you too.” I meant every word. “I’m sorry for hurting you and scaring you Adds, I shouldn’t have ditched you for some stupid party.” His words dripped with guilt.

“It’s okay...” I whispered, ignoring the throbbing of my neck.

end of flashback

I blinked away the memory as I looked away from the mirror, I wore ripped jean shorts and the Def Leppard shirt from that night, now cut into a crop-top and distressed. Some may say I’m an idiot for even still having it, and now I’m wearing it and ignoring the voice of reason inside my head.

‘Why am I like this?’ I mumble to myself as I throw my backpack over my shoulder.

“Hey, you.” I heard someone say behind me, I ignored it at first but then felt a tug on my backpack.
I turned and was met with Klarissa, I held back the urge to roll my eyes.
“Can I help you?” I asked, in an uninterested tone.
“Yes you can, you can stay the hell away from Kayden, better yet all of them. You’re new, so I’m gonna tell you how this,” she gestured all around her, before saying “works.”
" You stay out of my way, and I’ll stay out of yours, Kayden is mine, this school is mine and you’re just a little nobody who thinks she has a chance at being somebody by sleeping around with the most popular boys in this school.” I looked at her in complete shock, I had been called a lot of things but someone who sleeps around has never been one of those things.
" What are you ladies doing, looks like your about to either fight or make out, either sounds fun to watch.” Kayden, of course, showed up at the worst time.
Klarissa and he locked lips and I looked away, feeling uneasy.
" I was just introducing myself to the new girl baby.” Kayden gave me a once over and smirked, “She’s not one of your new toys Klarissa,” he hummed, she rolled her eyes but smiled, tugging him along as they strutted off.
“Drama,” I groaned, making my way to my next class, it almost felt like a second first day because of the block schedule.

I arrived at my first class, AP 2D Art, to my relief, Marcus was already at an empty table, “Hey new girl,” he greeted me with one of those weird handshakes guys do before I slumped down in my chair. “Rough morning?” he asked as he began to pull out his sketchbooks and such. “Rough year,” I grumbled, he just laughed and shook his head. “Want to talk about it?” he asked, “Malibu Barbie thinks I’m trying to steal Ken away from her,” I stated, rolling my eyes as the words left my mouth. “Wow, you’ve been here for two days and you’ve already made quite the impression,”
