Chapter 54

Luc:

Never thought I'd be here again; living with Indra. My boyfriend. You can imagine how well that's going.

I turned off the shower and sighed with relief. Fucking love hot showers. I stepped out and wrapped a towel around my torso.

The mirror behind the sink's counter was foggy. Better open the door. I dried off and reached for my clothes, only they weren't there. "Oh no."

I opened the door connecting to Indra's room and peeked inside. "Indra?"

He wasn't there. I didn't have any other clothes -- we're supposed to go get some more later today -- so I couldn't just grab something else. And he's the only one who could've taken them.

"Indra!" I called loudly. I groaned and walked out the bedroom and into the living room. "Give me back my clothes!"

I heard his laugh. I turned to the kitchen. Indra stooped down on the countertop holding my clothes in his hand. He grinned mischievously.

"Hey!" I yelled and ran over to him. He jumped back. I ran around the counter and chased him. He walked backwards.

"Give them back!" I shouted and I reached for my clothes. Indra moved the clothes out of the way, smiling at my strife. He chuckled as we went around and around. "You're really starting to piss me off-"

I cried out when he tossed the clothes on my head. I bumped into him. The clothes fell into my arms and I quickly put on my shirt. Indra laughed.

"Not funny." I pouted.

"A little funny." He said, still smiling.

I finished getting dressed and tossed the towel on Indra.

"Let's go. You already made us late." I said with a big attitude. I walked around him and headed for the door.

Indra popped up in front of me walking backwards with his arms behind his back. He smiled innocently. "Maybe we could be a little later?"

"Shut up!" I turned him around and pushed him to the door. He must've lost his mind.

"Never thought I'd say this, but Indra is kind of annoying me." I said to Evie after first block. We --I-- abandoned Indra.

"What'd he do now?" Evie asked, hiding a chuckle.

"First he stole my clothes while I was in the shower, then he made a not so subtle suggestion. And then! Then, he started serenading me in the car." I vented.

"What was he saying?" Evie asked.

I threw my arms up and let them slap my thighs when they fell. "He was speaking Romanian! But it sounded dirty!"

Evie started to laugh.

"Stop laughing."

She covered her mouth, "oh dear."

"I think we've reached that time." I thought. I panicked internally.

During lunch I walked around the basement floor.

"Luc." An annoyed voice called. I pivoted.

"Oh, hey, Indra." I waved innocently.

He took my hand and pulled me into the stairwell. He climbed over the railing and stood behind the stairs. I sighed and followed his lead.

I stood in front of him and leaned on the wall.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Since when do you avoid me?" He asked curiously.

"Since you started playing pranks on me and making suggestions!" I flipped out quickly. I got off the wall. "And if you're gonna serenade me do it in English!"

Indra dropped his hands on my shoulders. "Luc."

"What?"

He looked into my eye. Amorous. Oh shit.

"I'm not going to hide from you anymore." He said adamantly.

"Huh?" I said. What's he talking about? Why would he hide?

"I want you." I leaned back slowly. He trailed his finger down my shoulder slowly. "I want to touch you."

"You are touching me." I stated uncomfortably. My stomach bubbled.

"That's not what I mean." He said. I looked away. What am I supposed to tell him? I'm not ready for that. I'm not ready for any of that. What do I say? What could I possibly tell him? If I told him that I couldn't, would he understand?

I looked up at Indra hesitantly.

I frowned and climbed over the railing. I walked out the side door, and was yanked by my arm into another hallway.

"Well, that sounded very slightly bad." Evie's voice said. I sighed heavily.

We walked upstairs, out of Indra's hearing range.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"Indra." I groaned. "He wants to take things further." I hugged my arms.

"What did I expect? We're living together now."

"But I can't...you know...have sex with anybody." I lowered my voice. "The thought of it makes me sick. I can't do it."

"Have you told Indra that?" Evie asked.

I shook my head, "I'm scared to."

"Luc, he won't ever know if you don't communicate that with him. He knows what happened to you and he'll understand if you aren't up for it." She said.

"But if I tell him... It makes it more real. That I won't ever be able to have sex with my boyfriend and enjoy it." I said.

"There are other intimate things you could try." Evie started.

"Like what?"

"Cuddling." I like being held.

"Don't you think that'll lead up to something else?" I asked.

"That's why you have to tell him!" Evie enunciated.

"Oh."

Fine. As always, she's right.

"I'll tell him tonight." I said.

Evie nudged me with her shoulder. "You'll be fine. It's just a conversation."

An idea surfaced.

"Maybe I should just bang him and give him a sneak peek." I said.

Evie looked at me, confused.

"How is that a sneak peek? And no; don't force yourself."

I sighed heavily. Finally having "the talk" with Indra. It's Indra. What could go wrong?

In fourth block I saw Nick. At the same time he saw me. We looked away quickly.

Indra looked at me expectantly.

"What? I still need to figure out what to do with him." I said.

"Okay." Indra sighed. I sat down beside him and stared at the side of his face.

"Hey Indra?" I called.

He looked at me.

"You know how people go on a rollercoaster then get really scared of it after and swear off riding it again?" I asked.

"Sort of...why?" He asked.

I looked down for a second. "Nevermind."

When school ended I made Indra hurry and take me home so I could grab some clothes and supplies without being seen. Brian's car was gone. I insisted Indra wait in the car while I packed a bag.

I grabbed my toothbrush and ran out of the house.

"Okay let's go." I rushed him.

"Why didn't you want to be seen?" Indra asked as he drove.

"I don't want anyone to try to talk me out of staying with you. And like I said, I want to think and I do that best when I'm alone." I answered.

"But you're not alone." Indra stated.

I sighed to myself.

"Luc." Indra called eagerly after being at the condo for a while. "Do you maybe wanna hang out?"

"Mm no! I have homework!"

"We have the same classes; they don't assign us homework."

"I have homework!" I screamed at him and ran off.

An hour later I looked into the living room. Indra laid on the sofa with his hand behind his head. Is this what he does in his spare time? The cats were nearby -- one was contemplating jumping on him.

I acted first and climbed over the sofa, landing on his chest. What? I was feeling clingy.

I grunted and wrapped my arm around his chest. He chuckled and wrapped his arm around my head and gently rubbed my scalp. I love this, but I hope I don't give him the wrong idea.

I felt his lips on my head. I closed my eye. "Just for a little longer." I thought.

Yowling. A cat was yowling right in my face. I opened my eye. I looked around groggily. Delilah yowled again.

Something moved under me. I turned my head up. Indra. Oh god. I shrieked and shot up. I fell asleep on him!

"You're acting very weird today, Luc Benson." Indra stated while rubbing the side of his head.

I grabbed my sides. "No I'm not. Why- why would you think that? I'm not acting weird."

Indra sat up and tilted his head. "We've slept together before."

"I know. This time is just different." I said ambiguously.

"How is it different?" He asked. I climbed off of him and sat on the floor.

"Just cause."

"Why?"

"It just is!"

"But why?"

I groaned uncomfortably.

"What aren't you telling me?" He asked.

"It's different because you've been telling me you want to have sex with me!" I exclaimed.

"But it's normal now...we've been together for a while..." Indra responded.

"I don't care! I won't have sex with you! I can't do it. It doesn't matter how much I love you or how much I want to, I just can't!"

"Is this about your past?" He asked.

"Yes." I stood up. "Don't you understand? I can't do it."

"So please, stop asking."

It's all out there now. What will he say now?

He stood up. "Luc." I glanced at him.

"I'm sorry. I never wanted to make you uncomfortable."

I opened my mouth.

"Wait." Indra stopped me. "I won't pressure you by saying I'll wait for you because clearly that day won't come. But I want you to talk to me. Tell me what you are comfortable with."

I looked off to the side. "Hugs?" I mentioned.

"The things we've been doing. That's fine." I said.

"I understand." Indra nodded. "Thank you for telling me."

I smiled a little. Hey, I told him. Well, I screamed at him, but I told him!

A little later I was sitting on the floor playing with Burke. He swiped at my hands and laid on his side as I moved my hands around him.

He suddenly hopped up and ran into the kitchen, then he came back running at full speed. He jumped at my face and headbutted me. "Ow." I groaned. Burke got up and hopped back and forth in front of me, then took off running again.

I laughed. He's a funny guy. I looked at the table. Callie was laying down with her eyes closed. She was just relaxing. Burke ran over and hopped up on the table and stood beside her. He slowly leaned close to her head, sniffing her lightly. He then nudged her softly with his nose.

Callie shot up and angrily swatted him on the nose. She hissed. Burke leaned back, his eyes were wide. Callie yowled.

I chuckled. "Don't think she wants company right now, bud."

Burke slowly climbed down from the table and left the area. Callie laid back down and closed her eyes.

"Okay then." I whispered.

I stood up and followed Burke's lead by leaving. I wanna go bug Indra now. All I knew was he went out the window and hasn't come back.

I raised the window completely and stuck my head out. Oh, there's a fire escape here? I looked up the steps. Indra sat there drinking from a blood bag. He stopped drinking and made eye contact with me.

"Oh!" I pulled my head back in. "Sorry, I didn't realize you were eating."

"I'll give you your privacy." I said.

I heard his calm voice faintly, "no. It's okay, you can come out here if you want."

I stuck my leg out and climbed onto the fire escape. Never been on one of these. Is it secure? I crawled up the stairs and sat beside Indra.

He was hiding the blood bag behind his back. Indra looked me in the eye. "You don't have to hide it." I started.

"Or sit out here to eat." I said.

Indra hunched his shoulders. He covered his mouth, "um, well..."

"It's not normal to drink blood..." He said nervously.

"But you're not exactly normal now are you?" I responded.

"I'll get used to your normal so just go for it."

I chuckled. "Why are you covering your mouth like that?"

"I'm sure I smell like blood...and my mouth is red. I wouldn't want to offend your senses." He said. He's so cute.

"Hm, you never know. I might like the smell of blood."

Indra threw his hand down, "what?!"

I threw my head back and laughed loudly.

"Oh, you're messing with me." He said. I laughed a little more.

When I stopped laughing I wrapped my arm around his and leaned on his side.

"So. What does it taste like?" I asked curiously. I smiled at him.

Indra pulled out the blood bag and looked at it. "Hm...It doesn't taste as sharp as it would from an actual human."

"Like when you put a soda tin in the fridge uncovered and then complain later when it's flat." He grinned at me and we chuckled. He was right. His teeth and lips were red.

"So when you drink do you feel rejuvenated? Does it make you stronger?" I asked.

"Yes." Indra answered.

"Stronger how? Could you lift up a car?" I asked.

"Probably." He said.

I smiled and put the side of my head on his cheek.

"You're really cute. Did you know that?" I asked.

"Maybe." Indra replied.

He radiated warmth and safety.

"Hey?" I sat up. "Why are you warm?"

Indra only grunted.

"Why won't you ever tell me anything?" I asked. He always shuts down when I start to ask deeper questions.

"I don't know." Indra said as he stood up. He started to go down the steps. I stood up and followed him when he went back inside.

"Okay then," I said after closing the window and turning to face him, "how far can you throw a person?" I grinned at him playfully.

"I haven't tried it." Indra answered as he went into the bathroom; probably to brush his teeth.

I let out a small "oh" and left it at that.

"Soooo," I slid over to him after he came out of the bathroom and sat on the counter. I smiled at him. "Assuming you've lived for a while; have you met any celebrities? Or any historical figures? With your powers you could do whatever you want."

"Martin Luther King Jr.?" I asked.

"I don't know that...or who that is."

"Why not?" I asked.

"I told you: I stayed in Europe for my time." Indra said.

That's right, I forgot. "Oh, right."

"I'm sorry. I don't know much about United States history."

Indra clearly wanted to appease my curiousity but went about it the wrong way because the next thing he said threw me completely off.

"But I did meet Adolf Hitler!" He said smiling.

I covered my mouth and looked at him.

"I- don't know why I said that with a smile..." He said slowly.

"It actually went kind of badly..." He started rambling. "He was a terrible person, as you can imagined, had all those good...innocent people killed. Destroyed a lot of things."

"Yeah he- he had me shot at the end of that conversation." Indra finished.

I stared at him blankly. I couldn't even figure out what to say or do. I squeezed my mouth.

Is that how he became a vampire?

"What? Why are you looking like that?" Indra asked. I didn't answer. "Did you have another question?"

I still didn't say anything. I was just processing.

"Luc?" Indra called worried. My boyfriend met Hitler and was shot by a nazi. Dude...he was around during the Holocaust. Like, fucking in it! "Did I break you?"

"Are you ill?" I heard him question.

I was pulled from my thoughts.

"I'm fine." I said.

What in the hell did Indra do to warrant a bullet?

I went over to Indra and wrapped my arm around his waist. I was desperate to change the subject -- plus, I knew he probably wouldn't tell me anymore if I asked.

"Why don't I tell you about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he helped change the world, hm?" I suggested as I guided Indra to the sofas.

So I told him about the Civil Rights Movement.

"So, you're half Black, half White," Indra started. He had a whole lot of questions. "How would people see you?"

"Would I be seen as Black or White?" I asked for clarification. Indra nodded.

"I really don't know. They don't really talk about it in school or the media. Normally one or the other is focused on." I answered.

"Oh." Indra said lowly.

I sat up straight. "So we talked briefly about my heritage; what about your parents?"

"Romanian." Indra stated.

"No, what were they like? Who were they?" I asked.

Indra looked down to the side contemplatively. I looked at him. He was deep in thought.

He then looked up at me and smiled brightly.

"You look hungry. I'll make dinner." He got up and left. My face dropped deeply.

Later on I went through my bag.

"No, no, no," I whimpered. They aren't here! Indra came over to me. "What is it?"

"My pills! I grabbed everything so fast I forgot them!"

"Well, that's okay. We can just go get them." Indra assured me.

"I don't want to be seen." I told him again.

"Why?" Indra asked. "Are you embarrassed by something?"

"No, I- I just don't want to be seen. That's all." I can't explain it.

"But-"

I pushed my bag away from me, "forget it. Will you please just take me to get my pills?"

"Yes."

We stood up. "I'll just go in, grab my pills, then come out."

We pulled into the driveway. The lights in the living room were on. It's still early; Alexandria may be playing. She'll cause a fuss when she sees me.

"Stay here."

Indra nodded. I got out of the car and took out my keys.

I lingered in front of the door for a few minutes, fiddling with my keys. "Will Brian be angry at me when I walk in?" I thought. "Only one way to find out."

I pushed my key into the slot and turned the lock. The door clicked and opened. I stepped into the house.

"Is that Mommy?" I heard Alexandria's voice. I looked into the living room. She was sitting on the floor playing with her toys. Brian laid beside her.

"Might be." He answered. I stepped forward.

"Luc!" Alexandria called happily. She got up and ran over to me, "you're back!" She hugged my legs.

I kneeled and hugged her. "Not for long. I just came to get my medicine." I told her.

Brian came over as we let go of each other. I stood up. Alexandria whined as she reached her arms up. I gave in and picked her up. She immediately went back to hugging me.

"Luc." Brian called.

"We aren't doing anything bad." I said nervously.

Brian sighed. "Luc." He called again.

"I'll just take my pills and go." I said fearfully as I went into the kitchen. Maybe I was scared of what he'd say to me. I did punch his nephew and runaway. Said nephew who's jaw would be in a cast if it had not been for my vampire boyfriend.

I opened the glass cabinet and took a pill bottle out and stuffed it into my pocket. I stuffed the second one into my other pocket.

"Why do you need those?" Alexandria asked curiously.

"If I don't have them I'll get sick." I answered as I closed the cabinet.

"Sick how?" She asked. "Well..." I drawled, turning around.

I jumped in surprise. Brian stood there staring at me with concern. Whelp, he has me cornered.

"Luc," he called once again.

"I'm sorry I punched Nick and ran off." I babbled.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

I sighed. I nodded. "Yes. I'm okay."

Brian sighed with relief. "Is Indra treating you right?" He then asked, almost like he was panicking.

"Yes." I answered. "He even fixed me breakfast this morning."

I chuckled. "He's very gentle with me." I told him.

"So...he's not forcing you to stay with him?" Brian asked.

"He's not."

Brian nodded, "I'm not saying you have to come home if you don't want to right now, but this is still your home. You never have to worry about being unwelcomed here."

I lowered my head for a second.

"A home..." I thought.

I looked up at Brian. "I should get going."

I steped to the side.

"Answer me this: how did Indra relocate Nick's jaw so easily and accurately?"

I hunched my shoulders and frowned, "must've been a body builder in a past life."

I took off before he could say anything. I put Alexandria down and kissed her on the forehead.

"Ok, bye!" I said to her.

I opened the door and walked out.

"Luuuuuuuuc!" Alexandria called loudly. I turned my head. She was running out the door after me. She latched onto my leg. "Don't go!"

"Oh crap." I said. She held on tightly.

"Come on, I have to go. Let me go." I said as I grabbed her, trying to pull her off.

"Nope!"

Brian ran out.

"Alexandria!" He screamed. Alexandria and I froze. "Don't run out of the house without me!"

"Let him go." He told her.

"No!" Alexandria whined.

Brian reached down and grabbed her and pulled her off my leg.

Alexandria threw a tantrum: screaming and crying and hitting Brian.

"I'll be back in a couple days Alexandria." I tried to calm her down.

Brian backed into the house with the screaming baby. He waved goodbye to me. I waved sheepishly.

I rushed to the car and got in.

"Okay let's go."

Nothing happened. I looked over. Indra was gone. I looked in the back. He wasn't there. I looked forward.

What in the hell?

He's just gone.

"Indra?" I called slowly.

Why would he just leave his car? His door was closed too. He must've ran out while I was in the house.

A loud 'bang' sounded on the door. I jumped and looked over. The door opened and Indra quickly climbed in and closed the door.

I looked at him with my mouth agape.

He covered his mouth, "oh, you're back." He said with his teeth clenched.

"Where did you go?"

"No wur." Why is he speaking funny?

"What's in your mouth?"

"Nuffing." He leaned back.

I raised an eyebrow. "Indra," I called pointedly.

He swallowed and started choking. He hacked and coughed, gagging.

Indra coughed hard and two brown feathers flew out and glided down onto the console.

I stared at the feathers and then slowly looked up at Indra.

Dude...

He wiped the corner of his mouth with his fingers. He cleared his throat and "normalized."

I touched my fingers to my lips for a second, then held them out. I put my hand down.

I'm pretty sure he ate a bird.

Indra nodded his head at the feathers.

Where. To. Even. Begin.

The weirdest conversation I had with my boyfriend went like this:

"Did you eat a bird?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"It was taunting me."

"How does a bird taunt someone?"

"He said he was going to crap on the car."

"How do you know?"

"I read his mind."

"Why did you read a bird's mind?"

"I was bored."

"Then it flew away, I chased it for fun."

"And you caught it."

Indra nodded like a kid.

"Then you ate it."

He nodded again.

I cringed slightly and turned to the front.

"Are you ready to leave?" Indra asked.

"You need to throw those feathers out before we go anywhere." I told him.

"Oh...you don't want them?" Indra tilted his head.

"What?!" I questioned. "Why would I want the feathers from a bird you killed?!"

"You know...how sometimes Delta brings me dead things..." Indra explained sheepishly.

"You're not a cat! People don't like being brought dead things." I said.

"So you don't like the feathers?" He asked.

"No."

Indra frowned [cutely] and slid down in the seat. He took the feathers and dropped them out the window.

What a goofball. A pure ball of goof. Maybe a little bit of dorky too. Pretty darn cute. And kind of an oblivious idiot. But hey, that's my dorky oblivious idiot and cute goofball.

I swear he's like a kid sometimes.

I looked at Indra.

He bounced in the seat a little as he started the car.

In deep thought my gaze veered to the house.

When we got back to the condo I turned to Indra.

"Okay. I have a plan for Nick." I said. "You're going to have to be our ride, you know."

"That's okay." Indra said.

I nodded my head. "Good. Tomorrow we face a new adventure."

Literally spent my time trying to avoid drunks, now I have to go to one all on my own. How ironic you are Life.
