Chapter 20 [end]

“You are my sun, my moon, and all my stars.”

"Come on, you slowpoke!" Theo laughed, pulling me by my arm. I glared at him. Or, at least I think I glared at him.

"I'm not running blindfolded!"

"Hey, do you trust me?" I heard him ask. I nodded. "Then hurry up!"

"Alright, fine! Did we seriously leave Scott for you to show me something?" I asked in disbelief and jumping in surprise when another hand slapped me on the back.

"Nope, I'm right here!" Scott's voice rang out loudly in my ear. I winced and let Theo drag me where ever we were going. We stopped walking a couple minutes later and I felt hands over my eyes.

"I have a blindfold, you know that right?" I asked. It's been a year since my dad got in that car crash. He ended up having a heart attack a week after he was let out of the hospital and died. I still missed him, but I was learning to move on. I laughed when Theo yanked the blindfold away from my eyes, his hands still blocking my vision.

"Show me already!"

"Ready?" he asked and I nodded eagerly. "Okay... open!"

He removed his hands and I opened my eyes to see a door. It was a door that was painted rainbow.

"What the hell?" I asked.

"I got us an apartment!" Theo exclaimed. "You won't have to live alone anymore. Plus we graduated so I figured it'd be nice to share a house. It's not like you don't already basically live in my house."

"Thanks... but why is the door rainbow?"

"Scott's idea," was all he said and I glanced at Scott with a raised eyebrow.

"Moody?!" I exclaimed. Scott was holding the cat in his arms.

"How did? When did you? What? How are you here buddy?" I asked Moody, scratching behind his ears.

"Oh okay. You like Scotty, huh?" I cooed.

"It was Moody's idea to paint your door in gay," Scott said proudly. I rolled my eyes but the smile didn't leave my face. Theo unlocked the apartment's rainbow door and lead us inside. It was already cleaned. Moody jumped out of Scott's arms and over to his full food bowl.

"Theo! Too much food! He's going to get fat!" I screeched, running over and emptying the bowl a little.

"Oops, sorry."

I glared playfully at him.

"So tell me about the apartment. How'd you do it?" I asked, watching Scott disappear into the pantry. We're gonna run out of food, aren't we.

"Well, it's only a ten minute walk from the hill. I had to pay extra to get the door painted," he started and I face palmed.

"This is why we trust me with the money and not you."

"Okay since you two lovebirds are having a moment, I'm going to grab these takis and go back home. Have fun arguing!" Scott announced, taking his leave. The two of us watched as the door shut, then looked back at each other, laughing.

The past year had been mainly focused on healing and learning. There were times where I still had thoughts of disappearing off of the face of the Earth, but Theo and Scott helped me through them. Not only that, but they provided times where I was the happiest guy alive. I've laughed more in the past year than I had in my whole life before that. I had stopped having flashbacks of my childhood and accepted that it wasn't my fault Estella died. I couldn't have done anything to prevent it. I've come to terms with past. I've learned that my father treated me unfairly and that it wasn't normal for kids to be punished in the way I was. I've learned that what Caleb did was not right.

I've learned how to be loved and how to love. I'd been scared to have sex with Theo; scared that I'd get hurt; scared I'd frighten him away; scared I'd disgust him. Turns out, he was even more scared than I was and we ended up waiting until just a week ago before we shared an awkward night. It was different than it was with Caleb. I felt alive when Theo touched me, not dead and numb like when Brian and his friends did.

"Hey. What are you thinking about?" Theo asked quietly, nuzzling his face into my neck. We had shifted to the bedroom and were laying on the bed together. Our fingers were woven together and soft music played in the background.

"Us," I answered simply. The song switched.

You've been on this road too long
Hearing music but it's not your song
Wanna scream but your voice is gone
Days trapped inside your head

"This is our song," Theo stated. "I didn't think you still had this in your playlist after a year."

"Of course I kept it. It's our song, as you said. I could deleted something like that, could I?" I replied.

But the sun is always there to shine

"The song that played the day I took you to the hill for the first time..." I muttered turning to face Theo and cuddling into his side.

"Hold on just one more day. Hold on. You know you'll find a way," I sang quietly. Theo draped his arm around me, pulling me closer to him.

"You've got stars in your eyes so let's paint the sky," Theo sang, running his fingers through my hair.

"Remember that night when I compared you to the moon and me to the stars?" I asked, the memory popping up in my head. Theo nodded his head.

"Yeah, and I told you that the sun was also a star. Why?" he replied and I smiled, recalling his exact words.

"I think you're forgetting that the sun is also a star. The sun is the most important star in our lives. It gives us warmth, life, and light. In fact, the moon can't shine without the sun. You wouldn't even be able to see the moon without the sun shining on it. You're underestimating the stars."

“I take it back now. You’re not like moon, you are the moon. You are my moon and my sun and all my stars. You’re my Earth and my universe,” I started.

Let out the beauty that's been trapped inside
Let them know that you're not gonna hide

“and I need you,” I finished.

“And you love me,” Theo added causing me to roll my eyes and shove him a little. He laughed and poked at my sides, laughter erupting from my throat.

“Don’t worry, you’re my sun and moon and stars and Earth and universe and everything too. And I love you as well,” Theo said once he stopped poking me. I smiled up at him and dropped my head onto his chest, staring into his beautiful brown eyes. He smiled back at me, pulling the green beanie he was wearing off of his head and throwing it at my face, I sat up, straddling him, to put the hat on correctly before laying back down. I placed my cheek on his chest and he wrapped his arms around me and kissed my head.

“I wanna go back to the hill tonight. We haven’t gone in a while,” I said.

“Mhm,” Theo hummed. My phone dinged from the bedside table but I ignored it. Then it dinged again. And again and again and again and again until I sighed and moved to grab the phone and open the texts, preparing to yell at whoever was spamming me.

“Theo start the car. There is a drunk Scott on the loose.”

“Goddamn it, not again. Last time, I barely made it out alive. That tiny little kid bit me.”

“I know, I know, but I love that tiny little kid so we’re going.”

“Do you love him more than me?” Theo asked, pouting. I head butted his chest.

“Of course not, idiot. Come on.”

Theo smiled and happily hopped out the rainbow door. I locked it behind me and followed Theo down to his car. I looked at the tracker I had installed on Scott and I’s phones the first time he was introduced to alcohol. I never drank, but Scott liked parties and drinking was his hobby whenever he went to one. Theo didn’t drink much, but if it was offered, he’d take it. I gave him directions as he drove and the phone tracker led up to a McDonalds not too far from out apartment. I spotted Scott’s car but he wasn’t in it. We slowly drove into the parking lot...

... and almost ran over Scott, who decided it was a good idea to sunbathe in the middle of the road in the middle of the night.

“AHH!” I yelled.

“AHH!” Theo yelled, slamming down on the breaks. I clutched at my chest for a second before clambering out of the car and running to Scott.

“Hey are you good?” I asked, slapping him in the face. He smiled like an idiot.

“Hi baby!” he slurred, grabbing my face and trying to kiss me. I smacked him in the forehead before hauling him onto my back and throwing him in the backseat. I got into the passenger seat again and Theo drove towards our apartment again. He parked the car and got out, helping me drag my best friend into our apartment.

“I love you baby!” Scott cooed at me and I swatted his hands away.

“No, Scott. I’m with Theo, remember?” I said and winced when he let out a whine that sounded like a mixture of pain, anger, and happiness. We dropped him onto the couch and he rolls off. I closed out rainbow door and locked it, letting Scott crawl around the apartment.

“Man, he’s like a big toddler,” Theo said, sighing.

“Amen, baby,” I replied and Theo pulled me into a hug. My phone dinged and I pulled it out.

Scotty :)
Mommy I am was kidnaped

Theo glanced over my shoulder and read the text before bursting out laughing. We both looked over at Scott who was huddled in a corner, looking around terrified. A

“Scott, we didn’t kidnap you. And quit texting me! I’m not your mom!” I scolded. A tear fell from Scott’s eye and he began wailing like a seal. Theo and I looked at each other before rushing over and patting him on the back.

“I don’t know how to comfort a child! Help, Theo!” I hissed. Theo look at me incredulously.

“Well, I don’t either! Help me!” he whispered back, patting Scott’s head. He stopped crying and just sat on the floor looking at us. Then he broke out into a big grin.

“Hi baby!” he exclaimed, reaching out to me. I glared and pushed him away.

“So many mood swings, gosh!” I grumbled. Scott put a hand on the back of my neck and pulled me down but I slapped his arms. He started whining again.

“What the hell, Elias, lemme hug you...” he slurred. I stopped and stared at Scott in disbelief.

“Wait, Elias? You mean the boy who works at that grocery store? Wait... you’re gay!?”
