Harmony’s P.O.V

I had journalist Honors for my last period. I entered the classroom and sat in my seat in the very back of the classroom. I had this class with both Adrian and Isabel. Adrian walked in the door with Elijah behind him. Adrian sat right beside Isabel at the table in front of mine. Since there were no seats left except for the seat right beside me, Elijah sat down.

Everyone chatted for a bit, but I stayed silent drawing a stick person in my notebook, waiting for the teacher to walk in.

The teacher walked in and everyone quieted down. “Good afternoon class” Mrs. Addy said. Mrs.Addy is a sweet teacher. She is the best let me tell you, she’s always giving me encouraging pep talks. She’s the only teacher that doesn’t give me pity. She believes in me 100%. When I need someone to talk to, I can always count on her to listen.

Everyone mumbled a quick ‘good afternoon’. “Ok class, since it’s the beginning of the school year, I had decided that this year I’m going to make you write an essay as your final grade for this school year instead of a test at the end of year.” She said. “You’re going to be working with partners and before you start picking them, you’re working with the person that’s sitting right beside you.” I turn my head and look at Elijah, but I find him already looking at me. I turn my head back quickly before he sees that my face is red. Adrian looks at me and gives me the ‘what was that’ look, I just shrug.

“This project is about how you are supposed to get to know each other. Learn something new about them, maybe build a friendship or a relationship. Show your true emotions, you guys may have ups and down along the journey but learn how to conquer them as you go. You have to write in your essay what is so special about them and how you guys did through the school years. What problems did you have and how did you solve them. Would you have chosen another partner if you had the chance and why? I will email all of you guys the details and the rubric on how I want your essay to be.” she says.

“Ok let’s get started with our lesson today. When writing you have to feel emotions and all the vocab you use has to be specific. You have to be good at writing it, so doing this project is going to let me know how well you have been paying attention through out the year.” she says.

Mrs. Addy pulls up notes on the board and we start writing them down.

It’s been pretty much an hour and a half and we were packing up our stuff for the end of the day, and the bell had rung. All four of us headed to our lockers.

“Hey Harmony, I forgot to tell you that I have football practice and I don’t know if you’re going to want to wait.” Adrian says rubbing the back of his neck. “Oh it’s ok, I’ll stay plus I figured since you guys have a game on friday. I’ll be in the music room if you need me. I’m going to be helping out Mr. Willson with some paperwork.” I tell him. “Oh ok, I’ll get you when we’re done then.” He says before walking away.

I head over to the music room, while I wait for Adrian to finish practice. I knew Adrian had practice today, so I head dropped by Mr. Wilsons asked permission to use the music room and he said as long as I organized it for him.

I sat in Mr. Willsons desk and started organizing his papers and that is what I did for 30 minutes. I got up and started wiping the white boards and desks for 30 minutes as well, so far It’s been an hour and I was done cleaning.

I saw the piano in the corner. I went over it and dragged my fingers through the keys. I sat on the bench and placed my fingers on the keys, closed my eyes, and started singing ’Never be the same, by Jessica Mauboy.

Let me tell you about a girl that I used to be,

Same name same face but a different me,

She didn’t know what she was thinking, Didn’t know her world was sinking,

Had her dreams written on a paper in her hand,

Held on tight but she didn’t understand,

The love and heart she’s replacing,

All the past that she’s erasing,

We all get lost sometimes and we forget who we are and we forget who we are,

Somewhere along the way, we’re all running in a crazy race,

Never thinking about the heart we break,

And as our hope starts fading away things are never gonna be the same,

’Cause when you’re standing there all alone,

Losing everything you’ve ever known,

You’re staring at a different face things are never gonna be the same,

I wish that I could share a different point of view,

But the words coming out wouldn’t speak the truth,

You wouldn’t know what I was really thinking,

And i’d return to the girl, who’s sinking,

Sinking down to the world that waits below,

And I don’t want to be there anymore,

Don’t wanna be there anymore,

And we all get lost sometimes and we forget who we are and we forget who we are.

Somewhere along the way, we’re all runnin in a crazy race,

Never thinking about the hearts we break,

And as our hope starts fading away things are never going to be the same,

Cause when you’re standing there all alone,

Losing everything you’ve ever known,

You’re staring at a different face things are never gonna be the same,

The more you win, the more you want,

It never ends, it never stops, oh it;s never enough,

Oh, the more you win, the more you want, it never ends, it never stops,

Oh its never enough,

We’re all runnin in a crazy race,

Never thinking about the hearts we break

And as our hope starts fading away things are never gonna be the same,

Cause when your standing there all alone,

Losing everything you’ve ever known,

Your staring at a different face things are never gonna be the same,

Things are neer gonna be the same,

Things are never going to be the same,

When you’re standing there all alone,

Losing everything you’ve ever known,

Your staring at a different face things are never gonna be the same,

Things are never going to be the same,

Never gonna be the same.

When I sing I let all my emotions show, I have a passion for music. It’s one of the best things I like to do, It calms my nerves when I’m nervous, stressed and mad. None of my friends don’t know that I can sing. I wiped away my cheeks, when I felt the wet, I didn’t even know I was crying.

But those lyrics to me are true to me. I tried to tell things from a different point of view but people won’t believe me, and I would return to the girl I was before, the girl that’s drowning in her own sorrows.

I heard steps coming from the hall so I quickly got up and grabbed my stuff. I went out the door towards the football field. I was walking down the hallway when I stopped right in front of Adrian. “Oh hey, I was about to come get you um… I forgot where you were so I kinda got lost, whoops my bad.” he says. “I told you, I was in the music room. Why are you acting strange.” I ask him. “I’m not you are,” he says. Well this isn’t awkward at all. “Were you crying?” he asks. “Um...no I yawned and my eyes’ got watery, If you know what I mean.” I tell him. I can’t tell him about my mini break down, he’s way overprotective.

“Yeah ok, let’s go” he says. I follow him out the car and we both get in and he starts driving to the gas station.
