Kannan had not travelled beyond Kannur ever before but now as he sat alone in the train he did not have any worries about making this long trip to Bombay all by himself. Ali had trained him well,

“You’ve to be street smart to survive in this world. Remember the more you hunch your back the more others will trample upon you. Even if you are scared never let the others know.”

But Kannan was not afraid just bitter. There was a tinge of sadness for having deserted his father without saying a word but that did not weaken his determination.

He was going to Bombay, he was going to survive.
