“Calm down, June, what are you trying to say?” My flatmate was screaming over the phone, I could barely grasp what she was trying to say, “Okay, take a deep breath, and let it out one at a time.”
She took a deep breath and then started all over again,
“The mail just ran, there's a letter here from Hillview Academy-" I hung up and ran home, luckily, I was just a block away.
I got home just in time to snatch the envelope off her hands, she hadn't opened it yet,
“Would you open it already, I'm dying here.” She urged me.
I quickly tore open the envelope, and pulled out the letter.
“Okay, here we go.” I took in a deep breath and read through the lines, “Dear, Miss. Dolson. ..We are pleased to inform you......Oh, my God!”
“You got in?!”
“I got in!”
“You got in!!”
We both screamed and jumped around in joy. Hillview dance Academy is one of the most influential ballet academies in the world. It's always been my dream to go there, but I never got the chance as a kid. Now I get to teach, it's unbelievable.
It is the dream of many to attend Hillview Academy yet only eighty young dancers are accepted to their dance program each year; the fiercest competition from all over the globe and Somehow, I was amongst the people selected to teach these young talents, this is like a dream come true.
“Okay, we need to celebrate, this is huge,” June suggested.
“I know I'm usually like the fun spoiler around here, but today I agree, we should celebrate. So let's go to that club you always talk about, what is it called, Truth. “
“I just wanna dance tonight, I got into Hillview Academy, Hillview academy....” I start doing the robot dance, June laughs and joins in the dance, we burst out laughing in the end.
The bar reeked of sweat, beer, and cigarettes. It wasn't a terrible smell, but it wasn't a pleasant one either. There was a crowd and the music was too loud,
“You hate it!” June yelled over the music, as returned with the drinks.
I sighed and raised my voice, “I won't say hate, it's just not what I expected a club would look like.”
Just when the alcohol took its toll on us, we began to jump around, dancing.
June stops abruptly and looks over my shoulder,
“I think I just saw John.” She yelled,
“John, You’re boyfriend, John, isn't he supposed to be in New York?”
“That’s what I thought. Stay here, I'll be right back.”
“Wait, what?!” I panicked.
“Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about tonight, we will still celebrate. I just need to confirm, just keep dancing, you like dancing.. I'll be right back.” She said and dissipated into the crowd, leaving me alone.
You've got to be kidding? I spurned around to glimpse everyone in the club,
My favorite Spanish music began to play through the speakers, June had disappeared for a while and I just kept drinking and dancing, I was wearing this tight red dress that flowed perfectly with the song, and my hair was all over the place, swirling back and forth with the tune, It was like releasing my inner hoe.
I threw my hands in the air and laughed loudly as I danced, my hip movements as I twisted them up and down and raised my dress to my thighs. People danced around me, laughing and enjoying the music,
Just then I lost my balance and almost crashed into a stranger, I so drunk at this point--
“I’m sorry, I--”
The stranger paid no interest to anyone as he made his way towards the bar, he didn't seem in the mood for a party.
“Hot!” My face scrunched in disgust as a man's heated drunken voice whispered close to my ear.
Turning around to look at the stranger, I saw a bald man in a sort of ’90s outfit.
“Waiting for my date." I tried to ignore him and continued dancing, but his hand suddenly rested on my waist.
“Let me buy you a drink."
"I am good." I moved away from him and indicating my discomfort, I started moving to the other end.
He followed me, “Oh come on, you don't have a boyfriend, what kind of man would leave a specimen like, by yourself, he doesn't appreciate you. ...I do.”
“I am not interested," I snarled and his hand suddenly came and hit my ass from behind and I jumped up in surprise.
“What the fuck dude? Leave me alone." I screeched,
"We could go to my place and have a fun time..." He hummed out into my ear, taking a loose strand of hair in between his fingers and twirling it.
I moved away from his touch instantly, and approached the bar, he still followed.
“She said no. Leave her alone." A voice suddenly came from the end of the bar.
I turned around to see the stranger from before defending me, "Who the fuck are you? Leave. I am talking to her..." The man said persistently.
"She’s my date." The stranger said, taking me by surprise, but I caught up quickly.
““Yeah, he's my date, so fuck off,” I said.
“How about I call security, then we can figure out who’s lying?” The Stranger said.
“Fuck this, I just want to get laid.” The man muttered in frustration and left.
We both stopped and laughed,
“Thanks for that.” I got up and began walking over to him, “I actually never know what to do in that situation, I just freeze and let them walk over me.”
“You’re too nice, that's the problem.”
“You think I'm nice?” I snickered.
“Too nice, but I‘m not any better than the next guy around here, so feel free to tell me to piss off.” I don't know how or why, but suddenly I became very confident around him, just a minute ago I couldn't even mutter the words to defend myself.
“The name is Zoe.”
He smiled and leaned back to look at him, surprised at my sudden burst of confidence.
“Karl, the next round is on me, at least to say thank you.” I offered.
He regards me for a while, and then pulls out a note from his wallet, “How about I buy you a drink instead?”
