Prologue

“Donny, what the hell are you doing?” Johnny asked while Kyle gave me a look of disappointment. To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing.

Troy’s smug look told me everything that I needed to know. He knew that he won. His plan was to make it impossible for me to win, because that was just the type of person he was. Liz would tell me that she had a cousin that was the same way. That no matter what we did, we’d always ended up on the losing end. Now here I was staring into the eyes of defeat.

He had backed me into a corner. There was no doubt about it. It was like one of the romance books Liz liked reading. The guy faced with an impossible challenge. The challenge that would result in me sacrificing myself, or dragging her down with me. There was no way to win.

“So what is it going to be little cousin?” Troy said with a sly smile. I felt the urge to wipe that smile off his face at the moment. He had no right to destroy my life like this.

“Donny, this isn’t worth losing the love of your life,” Johnny warned.

“I have to agree with my brother here. Think of Liz,” Kyle agreed.

I just couldn’t see a way out of this. My options are so limited that I didn’t know what to do. There was no choice in the matter though. I had made my decision. I just had to make sure that Liz was gone by the time this all ended. I’d do anything to make sure she didn’t get dragged into my fucked up life.

So after taking a large breath of air, I signed to end the life I had hoped to see one day. Only it was just about to become out of my reach. All it took was the one word, “Deal.”
