Natalie Is Missing

She stood up as she wore her sleepers. “Have any of you seen Natalie?”

“Why? Are you missing her?” Mia asked smirking.

“Shut up! Have any of you seen Natalie?” Elle repeated a little louder.

“No, we haven’t,” Everly said.

“What the hell, where is she? Oh no, don’t panic, Elle. She must be in the washroom.” Elle tried to calm herself while going towards the Bathroom.

She swung open the Bathroom door, checked every room in the Activities Hall, the Learning Hall, and the Dorm Hall but Natalie was nowhere to be found. At last, she came back to the dorm with a miserable and hopeless face.

To her surprise, only Hann was there in the dorm. “What’s with you? And why aren’t you ready yet?” Hann asked while grabbing her coat.

“Umm, nothing.”

“Is something wrong, Elle?”

“No, nothing’s wrong!”

“I know something is!”

“I have told you, there’s nothing wrong!” Elle said annoyed.

Hann gave her a confused look and went out of the dorm without saying anything. Elle was now alone with her thoughts driving her crazy. “What do I do? What do I do?” she thought as someone gave her a light push which made the things in her hand fall on the floor. She sat down to pick up the things as she turned around to see who it was.

The person she saw made her eyes wide open. She froze there for a moment as a sudden horror appeared on her face. It was like her haunted past, her worst nightmare came to life. She suddenly got up and stepped back. The only thing going on in her mind at that very moment was Hazel.

She got dressed in the school uniform, wore her shoes, and grabbed a hoodie as she got out of the dorm. Now, the only thing left to do was to sneak out of the school without anyone seeing her.

As it was breakfast time, most of the girls were dining in the Hall, so it was not that hard for Elle to get out. But, it was not over yet. She still had to get out of the main gate which was probably harder because of the security system fixed there.

The main gate was at a distance of about 2 Kilometers. Elle started walking, trying her best to hide her face with the hood of the hoodie. She kept on walking till she was able to see the gate.

Now, the first thing she had to do was to somehow distract the two security men standing near the gate. But unfortunately, she didn’t have to do anything as someone already distracted them by saying that there was a fire somewhere. Both of the men ran towards where the person was standing and to be honest, it didn’t look like their best decision as the gate was now open for anyone to get in. “It’s not the time to think about it!” Elle reminded herself.

She looked around and started to run when she heard someone’s voice. “Shit!” she closed her eyes tightly in regret. “Why did I even think of doing this by myself?” she thought with her sweaty clenched fists.

“Where do you think you are going, Elena Carter?” It was Ma’am Harriet’s voice.

She didn’t know how the hell Ma’am Harriet recognized her with the hood covering her whole face. “I-umm, I heard there was a fire somewhere. So, I came here to inform the Security men.” She turned around to face Ma’am Harriet.

“Oh, and may I ask, where are those security men?”

“They’re inside the school building.” She motioned towards the school.

“Really?”

Elle nodded.

“Let’s go, see then!”

Elle had mixed emotions about the situation. She was worried that her reputation would be ruined but at the same time, she was more worried about Natalie. Where was she alright and was she alright?

Ma’am Harriet took her right to the Headmistress’s office when they got inside the school. It was the first time Elle was meeting the Headmistress. She often saw her greeting the students and talking with teachers, but she never talked or met her like this, before.

Ma’am Harriet knocked at the door. They stood there waiting for a moment when the door was opened by a middle-aged woman. She had dark brown bob hair and large grey eyes with softness on her face. “Thank you Ma’am!” she said in a gentle voice as Ma’am Harriet got out of the room leaving Elle with the Headmistress.

“Good Morning, Elle!” she said Politely.

“Good Morning, Ma’am!”

“You can call me Miss Lena. Now, please, sit down.” She said motioning towards one of the sofas.

“Thank you.” Elle smiled at her.

“I am sure, you know why you’re here right now.” She said as she sat on the sofa in front of Elle.

Elle didn’t say anything but hung her head.

“Would you tell me why you were out of the school building during school hours? Where were going? And that too alone.”

“I was going to tell the security men about a fire.” She said in a low voice.

“What fire?”

“I heard there’s a fire somewhere.”

“You only heard and you went off to tell the security men? That doesn’t sound very convincing!” she was saying with the same politeness she had before.

“Elle, is something troubling you? Or is there something you wanna share with me?”

“No, Miss, I am alright.” She was still looking at the ground.

“Okay, then off you go!” Miss Lena said standing up.

“You’re not going to give me a suspension or a punish?” Elle asked surprisingly.

“No, Elle. It was the first time I have got your complaint and there’s no punishment for the first time. First times are for learning.”

“Okay.” Elle opened the door and was about to get out when she heard Miss Lena’s voice.

“I hope it’s a mistake. And even if it’s not, you have the chance to improve it and yourself.”

“I will!” she turned around to look at her and then got out shutting the door behind her.

“What was that about?” she saw Mia and the others standing in front of the office.

“Huh, just a teeny tiny mistake,” Elle said as they started walking towards the Entrance Hall.

“No one goes to the Headmistress for a teeny tiny mistake!” Amy said.

“Tell us, why were you there?”

“I was called because… Mum came to visit me. Now, let me go and get fresh.” She said as she moved on avoiding any more questions. One thing she realized was that nobody had noticed that Natalie wasn’t there.
