Where Is She?
“How do I get out of here? How do I find her?” she was continuously thinking while the teacher was lecturing. “There’s still half an hour left! How do I get out? How do I bunk it?”
She had always hated Math but now that she had Natalie on her mind and she was feeling that she had more important things to do than solving algebra questions, she kinda wanted to murder it. But then, again, you can’t murder a non-living thing.
At last, the bell rang and her patience was over. She hurriedly got up, packed her things, and got out of the classroom before anyone even got the chance to say something to her.
She went to the dorm, put her things in her cabinet, and went off towards the Entrance Hall.
“Once again! We are going to do it once again and this time without getting caught!” she was murmuring to herself.
It was easier to sneak out this time as it was the 5-minute break they had between their classes. The Main Hall was very crowded with students and so, Elle took the advantage of it and got out. The rest of the sneaking she had to do was not harder than this.
“Phew!” she said as she stopped at the corner of the road after running for 5 minutes.
“I have to admit, we have to get better security.” She wiped the sweat off her forehead.
“Don’t get distracted, Elle!” she thought brushing off all the unnecessary thoughts off her mind.
“It’s a huge city. How would I ever find her?” she said looking around.
“Excuse me!” Someone said.
She turned around to see an older woman with a cat in her hand. “Yes, how can I help you?” Elle forcefully smiled at her.
“I am sorry to disturb you but my cat has got lost. Can you help me look for it, please?” She asked behind her glasses.
At first, Elle thought of telling her that she had her cat in her hand but wondering maybe she had two, Elle didn’t say anything.
“I am sorry but I really don’t have time for this.” Elle made an apologizing face as she started to walk towards her destination. She didn’t know where she was going but she had to go somewhere so she just kept walking. But something made her turn around and look at that old lady. The lady was still standing there staring at Elle like she knew Elle would turn around. Looking at her worried face, Elle felt ashamed of not helping her.
She reached to the lady and asked her about how her cat looked like. The lady gave her some information which Elle thought was enough to find a cat. She told the lady to wait as she went to look for it. After half an hour, Elle returned with empty hands.
“I looked everywhere but didn’t find it,” Elle said as she stood in front of the lady.
“What do I do now? I can’t leave for home without her.” She said with a worried face.
“Okay, I’ll try once again. Does that cat looks exactly like this one?” she asked.
“Looks like which one?”
“The one in your hand.” Elle motioned towards the cat.
“Oh! You are here. With me! When did you come back and where did you go?” she started talking to her cat.
“She’s always been with you,” Elle told her looking confused.
“Oh! I thought I had lost her!”
“Wait, what? So all this time, I was looking for a cat you had in your hand?” she was shocked and pissed at the same time.
“Ugh!” she said in frustration as she started walking in the opposite direction.
“Hey! Excuse me! Listen to me, please!” the lady called. Elle didn’t want to turn around but she did. “What now?” she murmured before turning.
“Yes?” she walked to her.
“May I know your name, please?”
“It’s Elle.” She said looking at her watch. It was 1 which means the last class was about to end. “I Hope no one has noticed that I am gone.” She thought.
“I wanted to apologize to you, Elle.”
“Yeah, it’s okay!” Elle replied before letting the lady complete the sentence.
“No, wait listen!”
“I think you need help. Can I help you?”
“No, thanks. The only thing you can do for me is let me go, please. I am in a hurry.” Elle said with her eyebrows drawn downward in annoyance.
“I want to know why are you in such a hurry? Maybe I can help you!”
“With due respect, I don’t think it’s your concern.”
Elle tried to get rid of her but she kept calling her name and asking to help. At last, after refusing about a million times, she said okay. Not that Elle wanted her to help, she just wanted to somehow get rid of her.
“I am looking for my friend.” They were now walking.
“Oh, and where did she go? Is she lost?”
“I don’t think she’s lost. Actually-“
“You can tell me! It’ll be our little secret.”
“Actually, one of the girls in our school said her something, I think she didn’t like. I saw her going out of the Dining Hall and thought she’s going to the washroom but she wasn’t. I checked everywhere but she was nowhere. And the most shocking thing is that none of the girls have noticed.”
“And since when is she missing?”
“It hasn’t been a long time or it may have. I haven’t seen her since yesterday night and I don’t know what to do. Please, help me! She may be in a danger.” Elle looked worried.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you.” The lady got her phone out of her handbag and started texting someone. Elle didn’t try to look who she was talking to. The lady then put her phone back in her bag.
“You’ll soon hear from her.” She smiled at Elle. Sometimes, she looked creepy to Elle.
“You know where she is?”
“No, I don’t. But both of us soon will!” she looked satisfied. Just when the phone rang. “Excuse me.” She said getting aside.
“You can go get her near the lake. Do you want me to come with you?” she asked when she came back.
“No, thanks. I will go by myself. Thank you so much for helping me!” Elle hugged her and ran towards the lake. She wasn’t used to hugging strangers like this but the lady actually helped her so much that she felt like she needed to give her a hug.
There was only one lake near their school and it was a famous one. It was not more than 5 minutes away. She was running fast with thousands of thoughts and questions going on in her mind.
She saw Natalie standing at a corner right when she reached the lake. “Oh my God, Natalie!” Elle was out of breath.
“Where were you? Who did this to you?” Elle asked looking at the scars on Natalie’s face. But Natalie looked too weak to say anything. “Oh, I need to take her to the school.” She thought to herself as she took out the phone she borrowed from one of her seniors in case she needed help and called Luna, the Head of South Hills. She told her the situation and so she sent help by informing the Headmistress.
Natalie was taken right to the San when they got to school but Elle, she was called by the Headmistress, once again.
