Chapter 20 : Bumbling sea witch

“Oh My God,” I say while looking at the ring on my finger.

“I know right, pretty awesome gift am I right?” Isaac says with an asshole smirk. I slap him.

“Ow, why would you do-” I slap him again.

“Ok stop it.” I start to hit him in the chest, and he starts laughing like this is funny.

“How, am I supposed to handle all of this in one day? You asshole, I love you.” I say then kiss him tenderly.

“I love you,” Isaac said smiling down at me.

At Valerie’s condo.

“God, I can’t believe it, you’re getting married!” Valerie said excitedly.

“It’s about damn time,” Jeanette said before taking a sip of her red wine.

“Amen,” Sarah said high-fiving Jeanette.

" I still can’t believe you’re getting married, and look at that ring.”

“I’m sorry, you’re getting what!?” Me Jeanette Valerie and Sarah all look behind us to see my brother David. You know, the same David I didn’t tell I was pregnant, and the same David that is finding out just now that I’m getting married. Oh and look, he also brought his kids. I stand up quickly out of my seat.

“What do you mean?” I say nonchalantly.

“What the fuck is that!?” He says pointing at my belly, which I totally forgot about, I hunched over trying to hide it but there’s no use.

“Ok kids, it’s time for your first lesson on puberty, yay.” Valerie is already across the room taking Josiah and Sophie somewhere else. Jeanette is adamant about staying even though Sarah keeps pulling her away to the other room.

“Rowan, what the hell is that?” David said getting closer to me.

“It’s, It’s my baby.”

“And you didn’t think to tell me that bastard knocked you up.”

“You say it like it’s a bad thing.”

“You’re 20 years old! that guy is the same age as me,” he said putting a hand to his chest.

“David, I’m not a kid anymore, I don’t need you to take care of me, I can take care of myself.”

“That’s not what you were saying when Michael kicked you to the curb, how could you lie to me when all I have done was be there and love you?”

“Because I know how you get.”

“How do I get?”

“You treat me like a kid, well guess what I’m not a kid anymore, thank you so much for helping me and being there for me, but I’m not going to always need you.” My voice started to crack, I do love my brother, he was my everything, but it’s not like that anymore, and I guess we’re both getting used to it.

It kind of looked like I struck him in the heart he took a step back what’s his mouth open.

“You don’t need me?”

“I never said I don’t need you, I said I don’t always need you. I will never forget when you would eat lunch with me because no one liked me, I will never forget when you defended me when mom yelled at me for just breathing. And I will never forget when you took me in when I had no place to go. I started to cry because looking back now I would have not survived without him. He walked closer to me and pulled me in for a hug.

“I’m sorry, but if I see him again I’m going to kill him.”

“Please don’t.”

3 months later...

I’m at Isaac’s parent’s garden party, were like 3 hours in and so far it’s been fun, well I think it’s been fun because all I have been doing is eating, and trying to get fewer and fewer people to touch my belly.

I’ve grown into a full-fledged whale in three months, and for some reason, people think it’s okay to touch me. People are also finding out about mine and Isaac’s engagement, which is embarrassing, not because I’m getting married to him, but because I don’t know how to express how I feel, after all, this is my longest-lasting relationship.

“Rowan,” Cecilia Isaac’s sister-in-law called for me.

“Yeah? you should go out there.”

“No, why?”

“Well, theirs nothing else going on here.”

“Umm, ok,” I say a little worried. I walk out of the kitchen, waving and smiling at guests, and I notice Gene talking, apparently leaving Noah, Benji, and Noland speechless; they were so taken aback that they didn’t even notice me walk over.

“When you think about it it makes sense, Santa got a sack of presents and you know when they say a baby is a bundle of joy, they’re obviously talking about his ball sack.

“W what, the fuck did I just walk into?” Gene looks behind him,

“Oh Rowen, you heard, please tell the guys that I’m right

“Wha, I just don’t understand, it’s August.”

“Yeah and?”

“You know what never mind.”

“You know what, when you think about it it does have some truth to it,” Noah says.

“Noah, are you serious?” Noland asked with furrowed eyebrows.

“See! it’s not that crazy.” Gene said excitedly.

“Rowan tells your brother-in-law to stop,” Benji said looking distraught.

“Uh uh, no I don’t wanna be involved,” I say then walk away, I then go outside to find Valerie and David, as soon as I go out to the large and gorgeous patio I mediately see David and Valerie.

I think was able to find them so quickly wasn’t because of Valerie’s strikingly vibrant red hair or my brother’s inability to avoid looking like the main character, but rather because their sickeningly sweet love is intoxicating and infectious, and I could sense those vibes from a mile away.

“Hey, guys.”

“Oh hey Ron,” Valerie says then gives me a hug, it’s not as tight as we want it to be because of our bellies. David gives me a hug with a smile as well.

“Rich people are wild.”

“Don’t I know it,” I said with huddled eyes.

“Me and some old guy were talking about a case I’m working on and out of know where he just gave me a check for 18k.”

“18 what?”

“Wow, that’s it? I’m going to have to have a talk with that man.” Valerie said with anger.

“It’s ok Ruby,” David said with a gentle smile.

“Any way where's know how?” Valerie asked, David, made a rule that we can’t say Isaac’s name out loud around him, but I owe it to him so whatever.

“Umm," I hummed looking up with furrowed eyebrows. “I think he’s with his mom and dad,” I remember Arthur dragging Isaac into some work bullshit, obviously his words not mine. Speak of the devil and he shall appear, and he did.

“Hey honey,” Isaac said in my ear, I turned around and gave him a kiss. After I did that I could feel the worst vibes I have ever felt, I turn slowly to see David with a blank face, but everyone in our proximity could feel the strong anger coming off him in waves.

Even the baby can feel it, he started kicking, I looked up at Isaac and he had a slight grin on his face, it’s almost like he wants to die.

“Ok, it’s time to go,” I say pulling this big strong man to the best of my abilities.

“No no, I what to see what he does.”

“Nope, no one what’s to see what he does.” Isaac finally walks with me.

“Babe, stop trying so hard to die.”

“If I wanted to die I would jump in front of a train, your brother has hated me ever since we met, so I just want to subtle this.” I look at Isaac with a blank stare.

“So you’re trying to die.” he starts to chuckle at my inability to understand this situation, he then looks off to the side and his face turns solemn, he starts to clench his jaw, I look in the same direction and I cannot believe it.

It’s Sabrina in all of her terrible glory talking with Colleen, they seem to be having a nice chat, Colleen’s laughing and smiling widely. Sabrina looks over at Isaac and locks eyes with him, I swear it’s like every time she appears me and Isaac’s relationship goes through a tremor, and our last fight that happened because of her almost killed me.

I’m scared, I’m scared of her, I’m scared of what she’ll do and say, I’m scared that my love won’t be enough for Isaac and me to last. She starts to walk over to us with Colleen, and as they do I feel a slight pain in my abdomen.

“Oh my god Isaac, look who’s here,” Colleen said with a big smile.

“Hey,” Sabrina said looking at Isaac and completely ignoring my existence.

“Well I have to go, you guys should have some fun catching up.”

God, why do you hate me so much? It’s almost like you brought me into this world for your pure entertainment.

“Isaac I know you told me to stay away but I just can’t.” I look over at Isaac again feeling a little weary, and he looks like he’s about to pop a blood vessel.

I need to get someone before things go downhill.

I look across the room to see Noland talking and laughing with a group of people. I rushed over to him in a hurry.

“Noland!” I say his name in a harsh whisper.

“Gezz.” He jumped. “Wow, you are so tiny, I didn’t even see you coming.”

“I’m 5, 7”

“Aaand?” I sighed.

“Whatever, Isaac is over there talking with Sabrina.” Noland looks over me and sees them, he was startled by that and ended up dropping a glass.

“Yeah, that’s bad.”

“Yah think.” Noland started to walk over to them and I followed.

“Heeey guys,” Noland said with a tents smile.

“Oh, Noland, it’s so great to see you again.”

“Yeah, you too, how about let’s go over there and talk,” Noland said rushing Serena. Noland looked back and I mouthed a "thank you," he winked and walked away with her.

I turned to Isaac and I still see him glaring at Sabrina, before anyone notices that something’s wrong I pull him away into a room.

“Are you okay?” I asked while Isaac started to pace around the room.

“How am I supposed to be okay huh? That bumbling sea witch is here.” He said while gritting his teeth.

“Well, maybe you should have told your parents about what happened,” I say with a hand on my hip and the other under my belly. Isaac stopped pacing and looked at me, and sighed.

“I know I should have but-”

“But you were too embarrassed to tell your parents.”

“Yeah,” He said looking at the ground.

“You should tell them after the party, and just get it out of the way.”

“I know I shouldn’t but, I don’t want them to think less of me.” I walk over to Isaac and put a hand on his arm.

“Isaac you put way too much pressure on yourself, your parents love you and they wouldn’t think less of you.

“What do you mean think less?” Arthur comes into the room and we’re both stunned.

5 minutes later...

We told Arthur everything, how Sabrina reeled Isaac in, how she was working for some guy named Greg, everything. Arthur sat on a chair in the room with a hand covering his mouth, he looked into the abyss, thinking.

I’ve never seen Arthur this way, he’s either warm or happy and calm, but right now he looked serious and stony.

“Did you tell your mother?” Arthur said unmoving.

“If I did she would bring out for shotgun.” After coming to know Colleen I can attest to that, she would bring her shotgun.

“Rowan,” Arthur said my name, it wasn’t demanding or rude sounding, it was just firm, and made me snap in attention.

“Go enjoy the party, we’ll take it from here,” he said putting his hand down and showing a small smile. I did as he said, but I was still worried.

Out of nowhere I start to feel a sharp pain in my abdomen again, it was strangely similar to is a contractions
