Summary.
Five days after the first case of COVID-19 appears in the United States, Major Michel Delmas, Army staff officer, is mentally worse than usual. The fatigue and stress of years of deployments have taken a toll on his health. He experiences increased difficulties coping with day-to-day life while emerging social strains linked to the pandemic are troubling his mood. Major Delmas escapes through walks in the woods and maladaptive daydreaming. Absent without authorization from his post during a field exercise, his chain of command requires he seeks further behavioral health treatment. Major Delmas needs to attend inpatient therapy before the spread of the coronavirus imposes strict restrictions on everybody.
