After cleaning myself off and changing back into my boring clothes, I eagerly met Jason outside. The corner of his mouth twitched when he laid his eyes on me.
I stuffed my hands in my pockets then pulled them out. I must have struck a thousand poses in a pathetic attempt to look casual when deep down I could feel my heart fluttering.
He lifted his thumb to my mouth and wiped the corner, “You had a little cu-”
“Thank you.” I cut him off before he could finish and tried to hide so he couldn’t see me turning red. His gaze remained on me until a cough startled us out of our trance.
“Will you be paying with cash or credit?” The girl fought for Jason’s attention; I tapped my nails on the counter as she shamelessly twirled her hair.
“Cash.” Jason paid the bill and listened as the girl droned on about a store card.
I had to continuously remind myself that I was a grown woman and throttling the slut was out of the question. When he finally turned down her advances and guided me out of the store I sighed in relief.
“Where to now?” I asked as we weaved through the crowded mall.
“I was thinking food,” He smirked, “I’m pretty sure I owe you breakfast.”
Once we had gathered our food and won the only vacant table left on the premises I pretended not to notice the growing similarities to a date.
I cleared my throat, “So I thought we weren’t equal.” I could almost hear my high school counselor telling me that communication was the first step to happiness.
“I’m making an exception.” He responded, not missing a beat, before meeting my eyes, “Just this once.”
I rolled my eyes and he laughed, “What you haven’t enjoyed our adventure?” His tone was meant to taunt me or distract me-maybe both.
“Unfortunately, this the highlight of my week.” I made a mental note to tread carefully, he didn’t need to know that my palms were sweaty whenever he was around.
Jason furrowed his eyebrows, “Why’s that?”
“My mom is in town and I’m never going to hear the end of my hideous apartment and secretive job,” I explained.
“Why would you keep your job a secret?”
I stared at him, “Are you kidding? She’d have a stroke.”
“If you don’t terrify people a bit then what’s the point?”
“You don’t know my mom.”
“No, but I know mine,” He said while chuckling. “I thought she was going to pull the shotgun off the wall and tear me a new asshole when I told her my plan to open my business.”
“Oh, you mean the completely respectable sex-toy shop?” I couldn’t help the sarcasm that trailed off my lips; It was a chronic condition.
Jason smirked, “I suppose it was kind of hard for her to face the Pastor on Sunday mornings after word got out.”
“So you’re religious then?”
“My family is.”
“What about you?”
He sighed, “I think that you believe in God.”
“Why do you thi-”
“If you don’t then who are you calling out to when I fuck you?” Cheeky bastard. The worse part of dealing with an arrogant son of a bitch is knowing that he’s right.
After our little chat, I made it my personal mission not to stare at him like a smitten schoolgirl for the rest of our shopping spree.
When we were finally done clearing out all the lingerie departments we could find it was a short ride back to PinkCherry where I was snuck in the back.
I surveyed his room and saw that it was empty. There were only two possible explanations; Either it really was his sister who left while Jason distracted me or I was a paranoid bitch.
I wasn’t a fan of the latter.
“Looking for something?” Jason must have noticed my puzzle expression.
I shook my head, “I should probably get out there.” The girls would be wondering where I disappeared to and there is only so much lying a girl should do in a day.
He didn’t stop me as I walked out the door and back into the world of glitz and girls. Everyone knows that fucking the boss is a bad idea but falling for him, now that’s suicide.
