Chapter Thirteen

Nova walked aimlessly around the house, her mind semi at ease knowing she hadn’t had sex with Jeremy. There wasn’t anything wrong with him, he just wasn’t him.
Axel Reed thrummed her body to life like a violin. Bringing to life music she hadn’t even known existed.
But he was giving her the cold shoulder, he’d purposely ignored her, went out of his way to steer clear of her.

So it had been such a surprise when he’d stuck up for her. He might as well have wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest protectively, that action alone gave her a secret thrill. Happiness maybe? She wasn’t sure, but it had felt wonderful.

She let out a scream as something strong wrapped a hand around her arm and tugged her into the nearest room, her vision spun as she righted herself. The door was slammed shut and locked, her aggressor stomped towards her with a renowned purpose in his stride.

“Axel wh-” her question was cut off as his lips were smashed against his. They were soft and swift, his tongue molding with hers.

She tore herself away from him, stumbling back onto the bed, his bed. Glancing around she realized they were in his room.

Great, just great.

“No Axel!” She shouted pointing at him. He couldn’t play this game with her again, she couldn’t take it. “I don’t want to do this anymore! I can’t take it!” She cried out.

He stared at her in surprise, her shoulders dropping in defeat.
Still sitting on his bed she glanced out his window, she could see her friends enjoying themselves at the docks.

“I will not be the person you come to when you want to relieve yourself, I will not be a toy for you to play with whenever you feel like it. I am a person, not an object for your whim and desire” Nova prided herself on how strong she sounded, how her voice didn’t waver or wobble.

“Nova I-”

“No” she said cutting him off, he shoved his hands deep into his pockets watching her with his turbulent blue eyes ” The first time we were truly together you asked me if what we were doing felt wrong. I said no.” Nova paused bracing herself for what she was about to admit, ” Axel it didn’t feel wrong at all, in fact it felt so right. What we did was the best thing I’ve ever done but because of that my feelings for you have deepened, I- I care about you a lot, and if we keep playing this game of yours where you pick me up and drop me whenever you want I’m going to be the one that gets hurt” she said glancing away from his dark heated gaze, her eyes locked onto her fingers as she twisted them together nervously, ” you’re going to break my heart” she let it out as a soft whisper.

She closed her eyes and waited. Nova was so sure that he was going to call her names, tell her how stupid she was for thinking sex was anything more than just that, sex. She was being such a big cry baby, she could already feel the tears choking her. This has been a bad idea since the-

Her train of thought was cut off at the sound of his footfalls stepping closer until he crounched in front of her, his knees hit the floor, his chest was level with her knees and his face looked up at her. She stared at him unsure of what he was doing.

His hand found hers and squeezed.
“We’re not playing a game, you’re not a toy, you’re a person” she watched him take a deep breath his eyes closed before opening again and she realized he was nervous. Axel Reed was nervous. She didn’t think that, that was ever a possibility. He was always so confident and sure of himself. ” I care about you a lot to, more than I should. I can’t promise you that I won’t break your heart and I’m sure at some point you’ll end up breaking mine as well” he raked his free hand through his hair, ” Nova I wanna.... I wanna be serious in this.... um relationship?”

She cocked her head to the side, “you want a relationship with me?” She asked.

He nodded, his hand clutching hers tighter, ” I don’t know how we’re gonna do this, but I’m willing to try if you are?”

Nova gaped at him, she was completely taken off guard. She hadn’t been willing to get her hopes up that Axel would actually want to be with her in a real relationship.

“Nova? This is new to me, I’ve never been in an actual relationship before... is your silence a good thing?”

Nova smiled lifting her face to his, he stared at her hesitantly completely unsure of what was going on in her mind.

“My silence is a very good thing” she laughed, “atleast in this case”

Nova stared up him, a wide smile painting itself on his gorgeous face. This was a rare occurrence, he never smiled, atleast not around her and if he did it was sinister and heartless. This was anything but.

His eyes dipped to her lips and her heart quickened as her eyes mirrored his.

“Can I kiss you now?” He asked inching forward, he became so close, the smell of him entraping her.

She didn’t wait to give him an answer, instead she leaned forward, closing the small distance between them and kissed him. It was bold of her, probably the boldest thing she’d ever done besides streaking but then again she hadn’t been sober. So this was the boldest soberest thing she’d ever done.

His lips pressed back against hers firmly, the small swipe of his tongue against her lips had her obeying his silent command, she opened her lips ever so slightly and grinned as he wasted no time in tasting her.

Her hands found his shoulders as she steadied herself. Her whole body was leaping at his touch, his taste and smell.

A shrill ring cut through their silent embrace.

They both pulled back and stared at each other, emotions were running high and a thick sexual tension hung in the air.

The ringing continued until Axel stood up, slamming his hand into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone.

“Yes” he barked.

Nova was thankful she wasn’t the one on the other end of the line.

His body seemed to relax a bit after awhile. He’d nod and give the person short answers, his eyes never leaving hers. He hung up shortly after, the silence was a comfrortable one.

“My mom” he said jingling his phone from side to side. She nodded and stood from her spot on his bed.

She’d never met his mom and if she was being honest she hoped she never did but she knew a time would come when it would be inevitable. She’d heard her mother and Thomas talk about her, Nova could tell she was a nuisance.

“Axel” she let out a breath, ” we can’t tell our friends about us”

“I know” he replied.

“They wouldn’t understand”

At least she didn’t think they would.

“I know” he said with a slight grinding of teeth, ” but your mine now Nova, just because we’re keeping this a secret doesn’t mean your available. You’re taken” he stated bluntly.

Nova felt heat rise to her cheeks as she stepped forward planting a small kiss on his lips, “Then you’re mine to”
