“What the fuck are you doing here?” I asked my father after Katie disappeared to the hallway.
“Is it true that you and your two friends here are having the same woman?” He asked probingly.
I stiffened, so did Milo and Sasha. We glared at my father in anger. How dare he come here like this after so many years of pretending I didn’t exist. He had no business asking questions like that.
I was going to answer him my usual, ‘It’s none of your fucking business’ because it was really none of his business to know about mine, when I heard a scream that made my blood go cold in a second from the kitchen.
I was running in a heartbeat, Sasha, Milo and my father just right behind my heels.
What I saw in the kitchen was probably the most horrific thing I had ever seen in my entire life.
Katie was lying on her front on the tiled floor, blood was seeping out from under her and was being spilt on the polished ground.
And she was not moving.
I let out a roar in pure, blinding rage at the man standing over her unconscious figure, laughing maniacally as he looked down upon her with madness in his face.
I charged at him like a bull.
We both went toppling to the floor, my hands immediately seized his neck and then in three hard slams of his head on the hard floor I cracked the back of it open, instantly killing him with just my bare hands.
How the fuck was he alive? How the fuck did he get in here?
“Katie! Katie! Somebody hurry call a fucking ambulance! Please, baby, wake up!” I heard a frantic Sasha shouting, his voice broken and panicky.
It was the first time I ever heard him sound like this, he was always usually controlled and calm.
I understood him.
For the first time in my life I wanted to cry. There’s already this big gaping hole forming inside my chest as I stared helplessly at the bleeding, unmoving form of the first woman I ever loved.
I didn’t even have the chance to apologize for every shit I did to her… and to say I Love You to her.
“Don’t fucking touch her!” Sasha shouted at Milo who was kneeling on Katie’s other side, tears silently streaming down from his eyes.
Milo ignored Sasha and went to touch Katie on her neck, feeling for a pulse.
My heart skipped a beat.
Please. Let her have a pulse. I’ll change for the better if You give her a second chance.
Milo let out a huge sob, his head going down onto Katie’s back as if in a bow.
I thought she was dead. I thought my whole world just fell apart.
But then Milo shouted from his bowing, “Pulse! She’s got fucking pulse! She’s alive! Oh shit, oh thank God!” His voice cracking but full of joy.
Sunshine and colors came rushing back to my world that was slowly being consumed by darkness at the thought of my woman being dead.
I crawled towards her to join my other two friends in rejoicing. The three of us so fucking relieved that we’re all wetting our eyes. We did not touch and moved her for the fear we might injure her further, but we surrounded her and bathed in her light.
I heard sirens sounding from afar and coming closer to our house.
“That’s the police and the ambulance.” My father said, I didn’t even notice him, I turned my head to look at him and saw that he was holding a phone.
He was the one who called the police and ambulance.
I stared blankly at him, not angry anymore but still wary of him.
“You should go.”
“Yeah.” He answered slowly, staring at Milo and Sasha who were both looking down at Katie with raw emotions in their faces.
Guessed that answered his question.
“The police will take advantage of the situation and arrest you.” I told him. My father’s a very wanted man among all the legal forces. I was surprise to discover that I didn’t want him to be sent to prison.
After all, he’s still my father, and I was still his son. Right, Katie?
My father nodded and with one last look on the scene in this kitchen, he left. I heard a loud roaring of a car speeding away, and two minutes later the police and ambulance were parked outside our house. Rushing inside and immediately finding us, paramedics were instantly on us. We were pushed away from Katie by the parameds, but there was the police to take us in for a quick interrogation.
They wanted to take us outside, but me, Milo and Sasha stood firmly in the kitchen where Katie was being assessed.
We go where Katie goes.
