Chapter 14

Finally, a year passed. It was a long fucking year. I felt like an eternity passed. I spent this whole year observing Samuel. Since I behaved well, I didn’t have any problem with him. He was a real sweetheart. Showering me with expensive gifts, giving me the freedom to move on my own. It wasn’t hard to convince him to wait until the marriage to have sex. He also allowed me to “learn” self-defense. Since he wanted to teach me personally, I used this opportunity to practice for real because I had to be in good form. I always punched him too hard, smiling foolishly and saying I got excited. He would always brush it off and told me not to worry about it. He had bruises all over his body but it served him right. Every day I thought about my sisters, the guys, Nathan. I wondered how were they. Samuel avoided mentioning Nathan in my presence but he would occasionally ask me if I’m still thinking about him. I was so used to it that I didn’t even had to act anymore. I would only make annoyed face and tell him to not mention his name in front of me. I must say he was very satisfied with that. That day has finally come. Our wedding day. Although I tried to persuade Samuel to hold the ceremony in America, he strongly opposed saying that he can’t take the risk of me escaping. Little did he know that I was going to run away no matter where we are. He once allowed me to go to the town, with a bodyguard of course. We were at some café and while he went to use the bathroom, I managed to contact one of my people. I told her where and when to come and how I planned to escape. I made a prefect plan since I had pretty much free time. And today was the day when I will realize my plan. I was in my room, preparing myself for the wedding. One of Samuel’s guards was watching me. He was a tough guy. I had to pay extra attention on him. The wedding was taking place at night in some fancy restaurant. Samuel’s family had yet to arrive which gave me time for my escape. He himself wasn’t here yet so I didn’t have time to lose.

“Hey there Sheng. Wanna go out with me for some fresh air?” I asked the guard and his face showed disapproval but I wasn’t going to back down now.

“Just a couple of minutes. I’m feeling a little nervous and I don’t want to ruin this for Samuel.” I said with a sad face. He looked like he won’t back down either. I pressed myself against him, placing my hands on his shoulders and batting my eyelashes.

“Pretty please?” He sighed and opened the door.

“You have 10 minutes.” He said sternly. I nodded and we headed outside. We stood there for about 2 minutes when his phone rang. He turned his back to me and answered the phone. Perfect. He was about to go down. Since I brought two pocket knives with me, I slowly turned around and stabbed him in the back of his left thigh. He hissed in pain and before he could do anything, I stabbed him in the back of his right thigh. He fell to the ground and I took his gun and knocked him out. He lost consciousness. I began to run as fast as I can. Thank God I asked for dress to be as simple as possible because I could run without problem. I went into an alley and I kept running. I told Victoria to wait for me two alleys away from the restaurant. I was almost there. While I was running, I checked my watch. They must’ve found Sheng by now. The hunt has begun. I turned around the corner and there she was. Victoria was waiting for me in the car. I quickly ran to it and got inside. I looked at her and then I hugged her tightly.

“Long time no see Vic. I missed you.” I said as I released her.

“Same goes for you boss.” Victoria said and started the engine.

We were heading towards the place where the private jet was parked. We arrived in no time and we went to the jet. When we were far enough from the car, Victoria pressed a button on her phone and the car exploded.

“Nice.” I high – fived her as we boarded on jet. We settled down and the jet took off.

“Thank God that’s over. I hadn’t felt this rush of adrenaline for a long time.” I said and Victoria smiled.

“It’s good to see you again Caroline. You haven’t changed a bit for all this time.” Victoria said and I took her hands in mine.

“Oh Vic, you can’t even imagine how glad I am to see you. You also haven’t changed. Still the same old Vic. Not that I mind.” I said and we laughed.

“Tell me Vic, how are things going? Did Nathan come to visit you? How are my sisters? Are they safe?” I attacked her with questions.

“Everything is fine. The gang is good. Things are going smoothly. Nathan did come. He told us what happened and brought us Mio and Jenna. He came to visit them often in the beginning but he just stopped coming suddenly 10 months ago. I haven’t heard of him. The girls are fine. We took extra care of them. Don’t worry.” Victoria said and I let out the sigh of relief even though I was worried about one thing.

~Why did Nathan suddenly stopped coming? And for 10 months? That doesn’t sound good. I need to get in touch with the guys as soon as I get home. ~

After hours of traveling, we finally arrived. I was extremely happy to be back home. The jet landed and we got off. We entered my house and what I saw warmed my heart. My sisters and my dear friends were waiting for me in the living room, excitement all over their faces. My sisters hurried to me and hugged me with all their strength. I was suffocating but it felt pretty damn good.

“We missed you sis!” Jenna yelled.

“I missed you too girls. I’m sorry I couldn’t come earlier.” I said.

“It’s okay C. We are glad you came back alive and well. That’s what matters the most.” Mia said and I smiled. We broke the hug and then my friends came to greet me.

“Look at you boss, back in all your glory.” Nora said.

“You look better than ever C. Love the dress.” Alexis said with a smile.

“Don’t you know boss, only virgins should wear white on their wedding day.” Jessica said, wide smirk plastered on her face.

“You didn’t waste your time with The Royal Blood’s boss, did you C?” Isabella said, winking.

“And when I think we were worried about you boss.” Lexy said while sighing.

“You girls are hilarious.” I said.

“Leave me alone. You all act like you are better than me.” I told them and we all began to laugh.

All of us sat down then and we spent some time catching up. The night had fallen already. I was pretty tired from everything so I was about to go to bed but then I remembered something. I pulled Alexis out of the living room. She gave me a questioning look.

“Al, tell me, have you buried my father?” I asked her.

“We did C. Don’t worry.” She said.

“Good. I would like to visit his grave tomorrow. Don’t tell Mia and Jenna about it. I don’t want them to come along but I will bring Jess and Vic with me. I’m also going to search for the guys from The Royal Blood so maybe we won’t come home tomorrow. You’ll stay here with others and take care of things. I’m counting on you.” I said and Alexis nodded.

“I understand. Leave everything to us. Take a good rest now C.” She said and left. I went to my room and straight to the bathroom. I wanted to be outside of this dress immediately. I took it off and got into the tub. I bathed for about 15 minutes but then my eyes got heavy and I decided to get out. I wrapped myself in a towel and laid in bed. I was so tired that I fell asleep as soon as my body touched the mattress.

I woke up to find myself laying naked on top of the bed. I remember I didn’t even put any clothes on last night after taking a shower. I checked the clock on my nightstand. It was already 1 pm. I got up and dressed quickly. I went down to kitchen. There were my sisters, Jessica, Victoria and Lexy. They were eating pancakes. I sat at the table next to Vic.

“Good morning boss. How did you sleep?” Lexy asked me.

“I slept well. I have a feeling like I haven’t slept this good for years. Your own bed sure hits different.” I said and that was a big fucking lie.

~Of course I haven’t slept good. Especially this last year. I had to keep my eyes on Samuel 24/7. I couldn’t sleep even if I wanted to. ~ I thought to myself.

“Well, I’m glad you could sleep well now. There are pancakes for you too. There you go.” Mia told me and handed me a plate with pancakes.

“Thank you. I’m starving. I haven’t eaten anything in two days.” I said and began to eat. We talked for a while and then I singed to Jessica and Victoria that we had to go. The three of us got up and my sisters had confused looks on their faces.

“Where are you going Caroline?” Mia asked me.

“Just to finish some business. I was absent for quite some time. There are some things I need to do.” I said and Jenna grabbed my hand.

“You won’t leave us again C? You’ll be back, right?” Jenna asked, sadness lacing her voice. My heart fell.

“Of course I’ll be back honey. I’m not leaving you again. Your sister is here. Don’t be scared. I won’t be here for a while but don’t worry, I’ll be back in no time.” I said and kissed both of them on their forehead. Girls were already waiting for me in the car. I drove us the graveyard. That path already well known to me. We arrived and I got out. I walked over to the place where my mom and now my dad were buried. Black marble decorated with gold letters. There were also two statues of angels in human size which represented my parents. I traced my father’s name with my fingers. Warm tears were already sliding down my face. Sobbing sounds could be heard coming from me. My chest ached. It was almost unbearable, the pain that was spreading through my body. I fell on my knees and placed my hands on the ground. I cried and cried. Rain started pouring but I stayed in my position. Hours passed. I was drenched. I finally gathered the strength to get up. I looked at my parent’s graves once more before I went to the car. I got in and speeded off. There was dead silence in the car for some time. I decided to break it.

“We’ll first go to find me some wigs and clothes so I can move freely. Samuel is already in America. He sure is searching for me. I can’t afford to be seen now. Then we’ll go to the night club that belongs to The Royal Blood. Someone must be there. If not, Nathans house is our next destination. “I said and both of them nodded in agreement. We stopped by some shops. I picked couple of wigs, all of them colored differently. I also took handful of outfits that reveal a lot of skin because Samuel knows I hate it. Since I will be going to a night club where Samuel could potentially be, I put pink wig on my head and wore black dress that was long enough to cover my ass and which cleavage dipped so low that it barely covered my nipples. I also wore some gold sandal heels and black sunglasses. Jess and Vic also dressed up so we could blend in. We arrived at our destination. The guards let us in without problems, looking at us like we were some snacks. I felt pretty uncomfortable but you gotta do what you gotta do. We walked inside and sat at one of the VIP seats. We looked around. There weren’t much people. Loud music was being played and there were female entertainers dancing. The waitress came to take our order.

“Is your boss here?” I asked her. She nodded.

“Tell him that I’m looking for him. If he asks who I am, tell him to come and see for himself.” I told her and she went away. After couple of minutes, there was a tall figure coming our way. Even though the lights were going crazy, I could tell who it was. He approached us and I smiled now that I could see him clearly. Black hair, dark eyes, tall and solidly built.

“Who are you? What business do you have with me?” He asked in stern voice. I chuckled. I signaled to Jess to make space for him to sit next to me.

“Come, sit with us.” I said with a smile. He looked at us suspiciously but he took a seat next to me. Victoria got up and pulled the curtain so we could have some privacy.

“Tell me what’s all this about?” He asked. I took off my sunglasses and placed my hands on his cheeks. He was confused.

“Oh Alex, only a year passed but you changed so much.” I said and he stared at me.

“You don’t recognize me?” I asked. His eyes then widened and he took me into a crashing hug.

“Caroline, is it really you?” He whispered. I smiled.

“Yeah, it’s really me.” I said. Alex broke the hug and grabbed my shoulders.

“I bet you look exactly the same like a year ago under that wig and outfit but right now, you are a totally different person. I never imagined I would see you in such a daring state.” He said.

“Yeah, I know, but it’s necessary now, with Samuel at my neck.” I said and he nodded.

“Tell me Alex, are you alone here? Where are the others? I heard Nathan disappeared. Do you know something about where he went?” I asked him. His face fell and his arms dropped from my shoulders.

“I’m alone Caroline. After you left, everything fell apart. Nathan was in horrible state, in no condition to lead the gang. Then ten months ago he just left together with Sam and Clyde, without a word. We couldn’t agree who was going to be in charge now that Nathan was gone so we just split apart, each one of us leading the gang in our own way. I’m currently maintaining night clubs as you can see.” Alex said, his face covered in sadness.

“Oh honey, I’m so sorry to hear that. I bet it must be hard on you.” I said, taking his hands in mine.

“Meh, it’s fine. We are handling it.” He said.

“It’s going to be okay Alex. Now I’m here. I’m going to bring all of you back together and we are going to search for Nathan…Okay?” I asked and he smiled.

“Yeah. I will help you Caroline.” He said enthusiastically. Just when I opened my mouth to say something, a gunshot rang outside.

“It’s Samuel.” I said and Alex stiffened.

“Listen, just go and greet him outside. Act normal, don’t look suspicious. If he comes in to check, let him do it. I got everything planned. Don’t worry. Go now.” I said and he went out. I signaled to Jess and Vic to come closer. I told them my plan and they nodded.

“Girls, it’s show time.” The music fell silent and voices could be heard outside.

“Speak, where is Caroline?” Samuel asked, his voice filled with anger.

“How should I know? Isn’t she supposed to be with you?” Alex answered, his voice calm and composed.

“She ran away on the day of our wedding. Since her father is dead, she could only go to your piece of shit boss. I have yet to find out how she managed to get away. I know this is his night club so speak.” Samuel demanded.

“I’m sorry to hear that Mr. Wang but I haven’t seen Caroline. She didn’t come here. As for my boss, he is not here either. No one knows where he is.” Alex said.

“Check all those VIP seats. She might be hiding in one of them.” Samuel said. Loud steps and curtains being pulled could be heard. After couple of minutes, I could hear someone approaching our seat.

“It’s time. Get into positions.” I said. The footsteps stopped in front of our seat and the curtain was pulled. The guard, who I didn’t know, stood in shock in front of us. I was straddling Victoria’s lap while she had her hands on my ass. Jessica was kneeling beside us and was making out with Victoria. They broke the kiss and Vic glared at the guard.

“What the fuck are you looking at? Piss off.” She said through gritted teeth. The guard quickly pulled the curtain back and his footsteps faded away. I moved from Vic’s lap and we all high-fived each other, holding our laughs.

“Well, have you found her?” Alex asked.

“Listen here, if I find out you fuckers are hiding her somewhere, it’s not going to end well. Tell that to your friends. I’m not done with you. We’ll see each other again.” Samuel said and stormed out with his guards. The music went back to blasting. Alex came to our seat and sat down.

“What the hell was that? I didn’t know you two swung that way.” Alex said.

“Oh sweetie, don’t worry, we don’t. It was just the part of our act.” Vic said.

“Hmm, what’s that? Did you like it?” Jess teased. Alex blushed.

“Stop it you two. Don’t you see he is uncomfortable? Don’t soil my pure boy with your dirty minds.” I said and the three of us began to laugh. Alex was annoyed.

“Ha ha, very funny. I’m not all that pure Caroline.” He said.

“I’m sorry honey. We won’t tease you anymore.” I said and kissed him on his cheek.

“Caroline, don’t treat me like a kid. I’m a grown up man now.” He said, still annoyed. I smiled.

“Yeah, I know. I’ll act like that from now on.” I said and moved away from him.

“So, what do you suggest to do from now on?” I asked him.

“I think we should go to Nathan’s house. There are all the files from the others that can help us get in touch with them.” He said and I nodded.

“Alright. Let’s meet up there tomorrow morning at 10 am. Okay?” I asked.

“Okay, I’ll be there.” Alex said and I got up.

“Good. We’ll be going now.” I said and opened the curtain.

“See you tomorrow Caroline. “Alex said and I smiled.

The girls and I drove home. I went to bed right away. I felt kind of tired.

I woke up at 9 am and got ready. This time I wore blonde wig, a blouse with cheetah print, short leather skirt with a slit on a side, black sandals which straps came above my knees and a pair of sunglasses. I went down to the living room. Vic and Jess were waiting for me. We went to the car and drove to Nathan’s house. When we arrived, Alex was already there, leaning against his car. We greeted each other and went inside the house. It was dead silent and cold despite the summer heat outside. The girls seated themselves in the living room and Alex went to bring the files. I climbed up the stairs and went straight to Nathan’s room. It was just like I remember. It smelled like him. I went to the bed and slowly sat down, tracing my hand on the mattress. Everything was the same except the fact that he wasn’t here.

~Where the hell are you Nate? What are you doing right now? Are you even alive? ~ I thought to myself. I got up and went to the living room.

“Did you find something?” I asked Alex.

“I did. From what I gathered, the easiest to reach out to now are either Tyler or Andrew. Tyler is maintaining the cargo and Andrew is in charge of casinos.” Alex said.

“Okay. I say we first go to get Tyler and then Andrew.” I said and Alex nodded.

“Yeah, I think that’s the best. It’s going to be dangerous though. Samuel might be there.” He said.

“I know. He was also there last night but nothing happened. Don’t worry Alex, I’ve got this. Let’s go right away, we don’t have time to waste.” I said and we headed out.
