I woke up in the middle of the night, alone. I sat up and ran my hands through my hair. I saw him, standing next to the window. I watched him for a while. He stood there motionless, just looking out of the window, humming to himself. I pulled the sheets back and walked over to him quietly. I felt for him. He had lost his father very recently. It couldn’t be easy for him and it was probably why he couldn’t sleep. I reached for his back, placing my hands slowly around his waist. Suddenly, he span to face me, grabbing me roughly around the throat. He quickly released his grasp, looking startled.
“Caroline...You surprised me.“ He said. I smiled.
“I tried to hug you and you gestured me by grabbing my throat...Not really nice.“ I pouted. He smiled apologetically and looked at my throat.
“I’m sorry...I didn’t hurt you, right?“ He asked me.
“No, you didn’t.“ I said. “Why are you awake this late at night?“ I asked, moving over to look out of the window.
“I rarely sleep a full night. I don’t know how much of a role you play in your father’s gang but it takes it’s toll.“ He said. I laughed.
“I never played a role in my father’s gang and I never will.“ I said.
“Is that true?“ He asked confused.
“I’m not part of my father’s gang. I don’t live together with him. We see each other maybe one time in a month. We mind our own business and don’t ask lots of questions.“ I said.
“You don’t live together? Then where do you live? Are you living by yourself or with someone else?“ He asked, sitting down on the sofa. I remained standing.
“Aren’t we a little curious kitty tonight?“ I asked smirking. “You will find out soon...Be patient honey.“ I said smiling. He smirked.
“You don’t like Mr.Kingstone that much. Are you sure you’re not adopted?“ He teased, gesturing for me to sit down. I continued to stand.
“Mr.Grey used to say that I have my mother’s beauty but my father’s temper. I miss him...“ I said. Nathan looked awkward as I was clearly affected by his order.
He grabbed my hands, pulling me over to him so that I was sitting sideways on his lap. One of his hands tucked a strand of hair behind my ear as the other one rested on the base of my back. I placed my hands on his firm chest.
“I’m glad you’re Mr.Kingstone’s daughter. For the first time, I actually feel like someone knows what it’s like to be me.“ He said.
“I’d imagine Ross would have shared your sentiment if you hadn’t domesticated him...“ I said. Nathan shook his head.
“Joe Ross is a rapist and a disgusting human being.“ He said to me. I laughed, lowering my voice, trying to imitate Nathan.
“I will break you Caroline.“ I began laughing again. Nathan didn’t. He flicked my forehead instead.
“Sometimes I forget to think before I speak.“ He said.
“And I guess it's my fault.“ I smiled.
“Your father would kill us both if he could see us now. I bet he doesn’t let you be with guys alone.“ He said. I smirked.
“Well, I don’t know about that but I can say I was suprised when I saw your friend at his party. Rarely someone that young comes to my father. It’s always people older that 40. Clearly, your friend Sam was very suspicious to me.“ I said. Nathan suddenly became rigid beneath me.
“Did you really thought I’m not going to know why he was there?“ I asked him. Nathan looked at me with shock written all over his face.
“You were planning on killing my father. I guess you planned on leaving Sam as a part of my father’s gang. Kill my father the same way he killed yours. You will have to wait until you take over The Ross gang thought.“ I said.
“Are you sure that you’re not the brain behind you father’s gang?“ He asked, his hand rubbing my back.
“I already told you that I don’t have to do anything with my father’s gang. He is just very impulsive, that’s all.“ I bit my lip.
“I was by my father’s side long enough to already know that your father is impulsive. I think most gangsters are, we feed on thrill.“ He said.
“Well, you’re damn right about that.“ I said smirking.
“By the way, can we stop talking about my father? It’s making me uncomfortable.“ I said.
“Why is it making you uncomfortable?“ He asked, placing his chin on my shoulder.
“Let’s just stop....He is not that important right now.“ I said.
~Is it me or I'm beginning to like Nathan? I feel so good when I'm with him. We’re so alike. I guess I really do like him.~
“I’ve never met a girl like you Caroline. You’re special.“ He said.
“I know but it sounds so good coming from your mouth.“ I smirked.
He grabbed my chin with his thumb and forefinger. His forefinger traced along my jaw as I stared into his eyes. His eyes moved down to look at my lips as he rolled his bottom lip betwen his teeth. His face moved painfully close to mine, his lips brushing mine lightly. I smirked.
“Can I kiss you Caroline?“ He asked seductivly.
“How could I say no to such an offer?“ I whispered to him. His lips crashed into mine as one of his hands was on my neck and the other hand grabbed one of my legs, pulling it over him so that I was straddling his lap. My hands remained standing on his chest as his tongue skirted across my bottom lip before he sucked it, his tongue slipping effortlessly into my mouth. When I broke the kiss for air, his mouth trailed down my jawline, leaving butterfly kisses. His hands had sneaked around my waist, his fingertips resting on top of my ass. His mouth had reached my throat as he kissed it down from my chin to the top of my cleavage. I moaned causing him to rock his hips against me. He lifted me with ease from the couch, his lips finding mine once more as he made his way to the bed, laying me down beneath him. He placed his arms on either side of my head as he kissed along my collarbone. One of his hands sneaked along the bottom of my shirt, tugging it up and over my head. His mouth trailed down my chest, all the way to my belly button only stopping at the top of my panties. I pulled him back to my lips. His lips cascading into mine once more. My fingers slide under Nathan’s shirt, trailing up his stomach and chest. His body was insane. Nathan’s lips left my mouth, kissing down my jawline once more as his hips pressed against mine. I could feel him, pressing against me. I moaned. I was strongly tempted to have sex with him but I couldn’t let that happen.
~I promised myself that I won’t do it with person I’m not in love with. I’m sorry Nathan, but you’ll have to wait a little longer.~
“Is everything alright Caroline?“ He asked me concerned.
“Honey, I think we should stop here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s just....I have my own reasons.“ I said as I kissed him lightly on his lips. Nathan sat himself down in front of me, pulling me into his lap. He hugged me tightly, resting his head on my shoulder. I stroked his hair.
“I’m not a monster Caroline. I’m not going to force you to do something you don’t want to.“ He pulled the sheets back from the bed, moving me over to one side. He tucked the sheets up under my chin. I looked at him confused as I was expecting him to get beside me. He laughed.
“It’s time for me to get up, darling. I trust you enough to leave you here alone. Please don’t be stupid and try to run away again.“ He smirked as he kissed my lips lightly, leaving the room.
I fell asleep but woke up couple of hours to the sound of a laughter filling the room. I placed a pillow on my face but the owner of laughter lifted the sheets and tried to throw me out of the bed. It was Andrew. He was a lot more playful than the last time I saw him.
“Wake up!“ He said, throwing a pillow at me. I caught it before it could hit me.
“Leave me the fuck alone. What’s your problem anyway? Is this like the military? Do you wake up all of your prisioners this early in the morning?“ He threw another one. I caught it again it with my hand.
“Nathan just came and woke me up. He dragged me out of bed and told me to check on you. But you’re still sleeping and I’m not!“ He said, climbing up onto the bed, bouncing on it, sending me sprawling off the side. He looked over the edge of the bed at me.
“Is it true that you’re Mr.Kingstone’s daughter? That you’re a sniper and he sends you away to other contries?“ He asked.
“Andrew, you’re really a fool. It’s true thought that I’m Mr.Kingstone’s daughter but a sniper. Really? I mean, I'm good at using weapons, but I'm not a sniper.“ I said to him. He frowned.
“I knew that Tyler was lying. Is it true that you shot him?“ He asked me.
“I didn’t mean to hurt him, I was just showing him that I can use a gun. And besides, it was just a graze. If he is a man, he should be able to handle it.“ I said, getting up from the floor.
“What’s that?“ He asked, poking the scar on my thight.
“Oh, Iwas in a car accident when I was a kid.“ I said. Andrew’s face showed he knew all about it. Nathan’s dad must’ve bragged about it.
“It looks like a bird, if you look at it like this.“ He said, flipping himself upside down, looking at it with a grin on his face.
“You think so, too? My father used to call me his little crow when I was little because he also thought it looked like a bird.“ I said smiling. He stuck out his stomach and began chortling like santa.
“That doesn’t sound like something he would say.“ He said. I laughed.
“Yeah, right.“ I said, still laughing. He also giggled.
“Can we go eat breakfast? Like, I'm starving here! Clyde must’ve cooked something nice.“ He pleaded.
“I was wondering....What is that Clyde like? I mean, Nathan’s been talking about him like he’s some serial killer.“ I said. He laughed as he pulled my arm.
“Caroline, you have no idea....“ He said.
As soon as we reached the kitchen, Andrew clicked his fingers saying that he’d totally forgot it was his turn to pick up the ingredients for breakfast. If Clyde asked, Iwas supposed to say he went an hour ago. I stepped into the kitchen. A tall figure with broad shoulders was standing at the counter, readying his utensils.
“Clyde?“ I called out. He turned to face me, a large smile stretching across his face.
“You must be Caroline! Come, sit, sit, sit!“ He said happily. “How are the boys treating you? I made them promise me that they will be nice. They are, aren’t they?“ He asked. He poured me and himself some coffee before he seated himself opposite from me. I just smiled.
“They made out you were some sort of serial killer.“ I said. Clyde rolled his eyes.
“Those bastards. They’ll for sure remember that I could tell a few tales about them.“ He said.
“Well, I’ve got time.“ I said.
“There’s a lot of stories about them...“ He said.
“I’ve been planning to stay here for a while, so hit me.“ I said smiling.
“You asked for it.“ He said to me also smiling.
“Let’s start from me. I’m Clyde Roberts. I’m not a serial killer, I just like things done a certain way. Call me a prefectionist. I keep the boys in order. I make sure they are safe. That leads me to Sam Gray. He’s pretty laidback guy. He’s gifted at lying through his bare teeth, so watch out for him. You won’t get much hassle from him. Tyler Gibson, I'm sure you have already met him. He’s as loyal as they come. Whenever you ask him to do something, he always gives it's 110%. He’s a good friend to have. Jack Adams is when it starts to get tricky. Your father killed his father when he was just a boy, so don’t expect him to be nice to you. Probably best to stay out of his way. Andrew Hart - he’s a strange one. Some days, he’ll be playful, cheerful, giddy. The next, he’ll be moping, sullen and looking for trouble. Our Alex King, he’s still at the age when he thinks he’s untouchable. Everything he does, he does well. But that doesn’t last forever and he causes me quite a bit of worry. Which brings us along nicely to our boss, Nathan Matthews. He’s in hard position at the moment. He’s finding it difficult to adapt. He doesn’t talk to any of us about his worries thought....I think he’s afraid of appearing weak or less of a leader. You couldn’t have come at a better time. I think he could do with a friend who understands and listens without him having to put on a front.“ He said to me.
“I know that but I can’t help him with my father.“ I said.
“Don’t be silly, Caroline. You know exactly what it’s like. How many friends do you have outside of the gang? How many people have you lost...?“ He asked me. I remained silent.
“It’s harder to be the boss’s kid as well thought. Tenfold.“ He said.
“Well, it’s true, but some of them can bare with it. Face the truth. The sooner you accept it, the sooner you’ll be fine with it.“ I said.
“You’re right. But the higher up the ranks, the harder it is. The more dangerous, the more people you lose...“ He said to me. I laughed.
“That’s like a ‘good morning’ to me. I already went through it. It doesn’t bother me anymore.“ I said.
“You don’t need to have a guard with us Caroline. You’re safe here. The only way you’ll end up in danger is if you keep running off.“ He grabbed my hand and squeezed it reassuringly.
“Clyde, honey, I need to keep my guard with everyone. Especially with you...Now that you don’t know the truth, you’re all good to me and everything, but when you find out the truth, will you still think the same of me? I don’t think so.“ I said.
“What truth Caroline?“ He asked me, still squeezing my hand.
“You’ll find out soon....I want to take a shower. Are there any clothes that would like - fit me?“ I asked, trying not to sound rude.
“I’ll give Andrew a buzz and get him to pick something up for you. Feel free to come back for breakfast once you freshen up. And please - don’t try to escape...“ He said smiling. I smiled back.
“Can you please tell him to get me some underwear, something to sleep into, couple pairs of high heels...and yes, tell him to only buy me maxi dresses because I think it would be easier for him to pick the dresses instead of shirts and pants.“ I said to him.
“Sure, don’t worry.“ He said smiling.
I went back to Nathan’s room and wandered over to the couch near the balcony. I sat down, staring out. After thinking for a couple of minutes, I made my way into the bathroom. The hot water felt so nice against my skin. I don’t know for how long I was in there for, but as I left the bathroom, I bumped into someone.
“I was just about to check if you were in there! I can’t believe Clyde just left you to wander off like that....“ Andrew said. I hit his chest.
“What’s that for?“ He asked.
“Like, can you not scare me like that? Geez...“ I said.
“I guess I’ll just have to keep all these then.“ He gestured to a small heap of clothes and couple pairs of shoes placed on the bed.
“Ahhh Andrew, you’re a life saver.“ I said happily.
“I know how can you thank me. Hurry up so we can go to eat.“ He gestured to the door, standing outside so I can get changed. He picked some nice clothes. And he got all I needed. Let’s just pray everything fits. I picked the first dress that I saw and black high heels so it would match.
I headed down the stairs. I walked through the living room when I heard a familiar voice. I followed the voice. A pair of heavy hands grabbed me, pulling me into the side room, hands covering my mouth.
