Chapter Six

The sweet sound of playful chatter coming from Treasa’s room woke Saraid with a smile. For a moment she had forgotten the time spent in purgatory with Reaper, if that was indeed whom he was. He haunted her dreams that night. Dreams that would make a grown woman blush. He scared the living shit out of her so why was she fantasizing about him? She tucked her thoughts away into the deepest corner of her mind and looked over at the still sleeping man who had won her heart.

Last night was the first night in a month that she had gotten to spend a night with Liam and Liam alone. Most nights their time was shared with Chase or all her companions. She found that she truly missed the intimacy of being with just Liam. The image of their lovemaking danced through her mind, bringing a smile to her face. She reached over and brushed a strand of his ebony and silver hair from his face, causing him to stir.

“Good morning, Mr. Maddox,” she whispered.

He responded with a yawn and stretched the length of his body with an exaggerated grunt before wrapping his arms around her middle.

“Good morning to you, Mrs. Maddox.”

She allowed herself to sink back into the bed, cocooned in his arms. Her heart clenched. She loved this man for all that he was.

“I was thinking we should get a sitter for the day.”

“What for?”

She turned her body further into his and snuggled her head against his chest.

“I think today is the perfect day for us to visit the cabin, just the two of us.”

The way his face lit up at the prospect of having her to himself for a whole day both excited and saddened Saraid. “No husband should feel like it’s Christmas just because he gets a day alone with his wife. It should be a normal thing,” Saraid thought to herself.

“It gets taxing to have to share you at times, but I love the others just as you do. I just love you more. I also know that this is not an arrangement that you voluntarily got into. If it were up to you it would be the two of us and no more. That will have to be enough for me.”

She had forgotten to lock their connection down. He was never meant to hear that.

“Sorry, I thought I closed that connection.”

A look of knowing crossed his face and it made her uncomfortable.

“I tried to close you out last night. It didn’t work.”

Her eyes grew wide with shock, “What do you mean?”

“I mean, the connection will not close. I think the blood spell you did last night had a permanent effect.”

She noticed immediately that he had not opened his mouth to speak, he had used their telekinesis. She did not like the idea of him being able to hear her every thought. Some things should be kept private.

“I tried to close it. I tried to not see.”

She knew what he was referring to and she immediately felt ashamed. He had been awake and saw the dream she was having about Reaper. She didn’t want to be having those dreams let alone torture the man she loved with having to see them too.

“I’m so sorry you had to see that, Liam. The man scares the crap out of me, so I don’t know why I would have been having dreams about him and I in no way would want you to be hurt by them.”

He seemed to be letting her words sink in before he relaxed beside her, just a little. He had the same insecure look on his face that she worked so hard to be rid of the night before.

“What if you were meant to have these dreams about him?”

“Don’t be silly Liam. It is probably an after effect of whatever magic he was doing on me last night. That’s probably why he manages to get every woman he goes after because trust me when I tell you that his personality leaves a lot to be desired.”

A deep baritone chuckle vibrated his chest as he replied, “That sounds about right. He has always been an over arrogant, cocky bastard. Although now I have a reason to finally kill him.”

“Well, that is a problem for another day. Today lets just focus on getting a sitter and being alone. I find myself in need of the attentions of my loving husband.”

“Oh Mrs. Maddox, you always have my attention.”

Saraid grabbed her phone from the nightstand and dialed the number for Maddie. Maddie lived just a few rooms down from theirs, but she didn’t want to waste one moment with Liam. When Maddie’s voice came to life on the other end of the phone Saraid tapped her foot on the mattress while she impatiently went through the typical pleasantries. When she felt she had waited long enough for it to not be rude, she asked Maddie if she would watch Treasa. Maddie had happily agreed.

“Okay, Maddie is on board. We can leave as soon as we’re ready.”

“Good. Let’s get dressed. We will have plenty of time to shower when we get there. I’m too excited to have some time alone with you to wait.”

She stretched up just enough to place a chaste kiss on his cheek. “I was just thinking the same exact thing.”

“Great minds think alike.”

“Indeed, they do.”
