Chapter 43

"I just want to say I'm sorry." I looked up from my book I was reading to see Vincent standing in the doorway of my bedroom.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I asked him.

"I'm sorry I called you a whore. I don't think you're a whore." He said. I just sort of looked at him and went back to my book. "Did you hear me?" He said.

"Yes, Vincent I heard you," I said without looking at him.

"You're not going to make this easy on me are you?" He said.

"Make what easy on you? I don't even know you Vincent and your nothing but a walking bundle of joy. I think it's just best for me to stay out of your way." I said. We locked eyes for a moment and then he just walked away. I took a deep breath and went back to my book. The snow had let up and Anna wanted to go to this outdoor carnival thing that was running. Richard thought it was a good idea for me to get out of the house for a while. I agreed to go. Of course, Drake joined us and Mickey was going to go, but Richard ended up needing him to stay home. I don't know why I opened my mouth, but I saw Vincent sitting in the kitchen. "Vincent, would you like to join us?" I said.

"Yeah cousin, come it will be fun," Anna spoke up. Vincent looked up at us both.

"What the hell. I could use some time out of this house." He said. I couldn't believe it. "Give me a minute to change." He said and he walked out of the room.

"Wow, I didn't think he would go," I said to Anna.

"Maybe we will get lucky and you will get to see the real laid back Vincent," Anna said.

"You mean he has a chill side to him?" I asked.

"Yeah, when Vincent is just being laid back and himself. He can actually be a lot of fun." She said. I was starting to get excited. I hoped Vincent was going to show that side of himself today. We all loaded into the car and headed out. The place turned out to be huge and full of lights and people. There were rides and shopping and food everywhere. They had also set up huge heaters everywhere. I had never been to a carnival before.

"You look like a child seeing Disneyland for the first time," Vincent said while we were standing in line to pay to go inside. I smiled over at him.

"I've never been to a place like this before," I said.

"You're from America, right? There are carnivals everywhere out there. You really have never been to one?" He asked me.

"No, I didn't have the best childhood," I said. He just kind of looked at me.

"That's a shame Page, let's see if we can't make this a great day for you." He said. I looked at him funny, but I didn't want to ruin it by being an ass so I just smiled at him. The day was going amazingly. Vincent was acting like a completely different person. He was carefree and happy. His smile was amazing. He kept making us laugh. Every ride we went on he acted like it was the scary thing ever. Screaming as though we were on some huge roller coaster. When in fact it was only the Ferris wheel. I was laughing so hard I didn't even get to enjoy the ride. I was having a wonderful time. We started to get hungry and made our way down to the shopping area to find some lunch.

We ended up in an area that was full of games. There was a game that you shot a gun at targets and if you hit the target you got a huge stuffed bear or dog or horse. I smiled at them and Vincent stopped at the game.

"You get one bullet and one shot for five dollars." The man running the game said. Vincent nodded at him and gave the man money. We all stood behind him and watched. The man loaded the gun and handed it over to Vincent.

"That stuffed bear is as good as his," Anna whispered in my ear. I just smiled and kept my eyes on him. Vincent raised the gun and took a deep breath. He pulled the trigger and hit the target with no problem. The guy handed Vincent a bear. He then turned and handed the bear to me. I reached out and took the huge thing. It was almost as big as I was. I hugged it like a two-year-old. I looked over at Vincent and he had a huge grin on his face.

"Is this for me?" I asked him. He nodded at me.

"What the hell am I going to do with it?" He said.

"That was a great shot," I said. His smile got bigger.

"Blagodaryu vas prekrasnyy." (Thank you beautiful.) He said in Russian. I just looked at him. He smiled and started to walk off. What? I said to myself.

"He said thank you beautiful," Anna said as we started to follow him. Oh, I said to myself. Vincent got us all food and we found a place to sit that was inside where it was warm.

"So what do you guys want to do next?" I said as Drake and Vincent were lost in conversation.

"I want to do some shopping," Anna spoke up.

"Imagine that," Vincent said. We all laughed.

"Come on Page. Let's go do some shopping and let these guys do their guy thing for a while." Anna said standing up.

"You two go off alone? I don't think so." Vincent said. I frowned at him.

"Come on Vincent, what trouble can we get into? We won't go outside of the carnival." Anna spoke up. I just smiled at him.

"Fine, but you keep an eye on her Anna. Here give me the bear. Drake and I will take it out to the car." Vincent said. I nodded at him and handed him over the bear. "You two meet us back here in an hour." He said.

"Only an hour?" Anna said looking all sad.

"One hour Anna and don't make me have to come find you two. It won't be pretty." He said. I nudged her so she wouldn't argue with him. We walked off towards the shopping area. There were booths everywhere. Full of everything you could think of. While Anna was lost talking to someone about some clothes. I saw a little booth just across the way with homemade jewelry. I left her side and walked over. The stuff was so pretty with little crystals on every piece. I was looking at a neckless when some man came up to my side.

"Privet simpatyashka." (Hello pretty girl.) He said. I turned to look at him.

"I'm sorry I don't speak Russian," I said to him.

"American, even better." He said. "Are you alone here?" He asked me. I turned to look for Anna, but she wasn't at that stand any longer.

"No, I'm not alone," I said to him and started to feel nervous. I tried to just ignore him and look at the jewelry.

"Why don't you come have a drink with me?" The man asked.

"No thank you, sir," I said.

"A polite thing you are." He said. I took a deep breath."Come on love it's just a drink." He said and he placed his hand on my back. I tried to move away, but he kept a grip on me.

"I said no, please let go of me," I said. He just smiled at me. Just then there was a gun pointed at his head.

"She said no, back off bitch," Vincent said in a deep voice. He pressed the gun into the guys head. I almost fainted. The guy put his hands up and started to step back.

"I meant no disrespect man." He said. Vincent moved the gun and the guy took off. Vincent put his gun away and came to my side.

"Are you okay?" He asked me. I nodded at him. I don't think I was more turned on then I was at that moment. I bit my lip and just looked at him. He looked back at me kind of funny and then smiled. "What Page?" He said. I just shook my head. "Where the hell is Anna?" He snapped.

"I don't know. She was at that booth over there just a minute ago." I said pointing to the booth she was at.

"I'm going to kill that girl." He said. Drake came walking up to us. Then Anna came bouncing over.

"Where the fuck were you while Page was being assaulted over here?" He snapped at her.

"Vincent be nice," I said. He shot me a look. Then he looked back at Anna. She had this look like a wounded deer in headlights.

"What do you mean? I was just right over there." She said.

"I told you to keep an eye on her." He snapped again.

"Vincent, it's not her fault. I walked away from her." I said.

"Come on let's go." He said.

"No Vincent, let's not go. I'm not ready to leave." I protested. He just looked at me. Then he took a deep breath.

"Fine, but no more going off on your own." He said in a stern voice. I nodded at him and we all started to walk off.
