Chapter 6

I stood there in a daze. I didn't know what to think. I don't think I was sad. I don't think I was happy. I don't think I was much of anything at that point. I stood alone on the side lines while Spencer talked with the police. I watched as the paramedics started to remove my mother from the grounds. We had already been out here for two hours. I watched as the forensics team gathered everything they could. It was simple, either suicide or murder. I happen to know for a fact that my mother would never take her own life, but there was a gun found on the scene. I was speechless, when the police tried to talk to me there was not much information I could give.

Spencer came up to my side and wrapped a blanket around my shoulders. "Page, are you okay?" He asked me quietly. All I could do was nod at him. He squeezed my shoulders softly and went back over to the police. They talked with Spencer for what seemed like hours. I knew the ambulance had already left with my mother's body, but my eyes stayed on the spot where her body was found. I saw the faint of the police car lights leaving and once they were all gone Spencer came back to my side. "Baby, let's go back inside." He said to me.

"Spencer, I want to leave. I don't want to stay here tonight." I said, sounding worried. He nodded at me.

"Okay, let's go pack our things and we will go to a hotel tonight." He said. "We just can't head home yet. The police asked us not to leave." He said.

"Okay, thank you Spencer." I said. We went back inside. I went up to my room and packed while Spencer went to his room to pack. I got all my things together and waited by the front door. I stared outside at the trees. My mother was a lot of things, but suicidal was not something she was. Spencer came up beside me.

"Let's go babe." He said. I followed him out to the car. We pulled up in front of a very expensive hotel. People came out and took our bags and escorted us to our room. Spencer got us a two bedroom suite. "We're just going stay here until they allow us to go." He said as I sat myself down on the couch. "Tell me what's on your mind?" Spencer said, as he sat down in front of me.

"My mother didn't take her own life." I just blurted out. Spencer looked at me somewhat confused.

"You think so?" He said.

"I don't think so, I know so." I said.

"Well you know her better then I do Page." He said.

"She thrived on life Spencer. There's just no way." I said, rubbing my head.

"Let's give the police time to check things out and see what they have to say, before we jump to any conclusions." He said.

"Your right, I need to sleep." I said. "I've got to get my head straight." Spencer nodded.

"Take any room you want." He said to me.

"I want the room with you." I said to him. He looked at me for a moment.

"Okay." Was all he said. He stood up and I followed him. I pulled my dress off and my bra, right in front of him. I wasn't thinking about anything as I crawled into the bed and covered myself. I felt Spencer climb in behind me. His arm went around my waist and he pulled me into his body. "Page?" He said.

"Yes?" I said.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

"I don't really know what I am. I don't feel much right now. I'm just sure that she didn't do this to herself." I said.

"Let's sleep." Was all he said. I woke up the next morning to Spencer's phone going off. I waited a moment for him to wake and answer it, but he didn't move.

"Spencer, wake up. Your phone is going off." I said. He moved around a moment and answered his phone.

"Hello? Yes this is him. Hello sir, how can I help you? Yes I understand. Thank you." Then he hung up the phone. I heard him take a deep breath. "Page, the only fingerprints on the gun belonged to your mother. They are ruling this a suicide." He said softly. I took a deep breath and climbed out of bed. I walked into the bathroom and started a shower. None of this made since. Unless I didn't know something was going on? It's not like she talked to me about things. Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe she had demons I knew nothing about. It was just so hard for me to believe that she did this to herself.

Spencer walked in as I was washing my hair. "Page, tell me your okay." He said.

"I'm okay." I answered back at him.

"The police said we are free to leave whenever we want to. I need to know what you would like to do." He said.

"As far as?" I asked.

"Well, I've got to go over your mother's will back home, but if you want the house Page it's yours." He said. I finished washing and got out of the shower. "I also need to know what you would like to do as far as a service for your mother." He said. I looked to the ground. I didn't know what to do. I never thought i'd be faced with this. My plan was to move away from her and never have anything to do with her again.

"Let's just get home and see what her will says. Maybe she put in there what she wanted done." I said. Spencer nodded at me and left the bathroom. I watched him go and I had a sad thought. I wonder if this will change thing between Spencer and myself? Not that anything has actually happened. I sat on the jet as we headed home. Spencer was lost in some paperwork. I chose not to bug him. The same woman who feed us last time came out with some trays of food. Good, because I was starving. We never made it to dinner last night. Spencer got up with his tray and came to sit next to me.

"I've got something I'd like to say to you." He said, as he sat down.

"Sure, anything." I said.

"My feelings for you haven't changed." He said. I smiled up at him.

"I was wondering about that myself." I said. He smiled at me, then he reached over and kissed me on my lips. I kissed him back and it became a little hungry on my half. I moved myself into his lap and straddled him. His hands went into my hair and his kiss became deeper. "I want you so bad Spencer." I whispered out. He started to kiss down my neck and I knew he was struggling.

"I want you to babe, but not like this." I knew what he meant and I agreed, but it was still hard to do. We pressed our foreheads together and he pushed my hair behind my ear. "Soon baby girl. I promise you." He whispered. I took a deep breath and moved myself off of him. We ate together and I fell asleep in his arms. Spencer woke me up when we started to land.

We pulled up in front of my home and it somehow looked very different, but I was glad to be home. The only thing about Georgia that I missed was Satin. To my surprise Brandy was waiting by the front door for me. I ran to her arms. "What are you doing here?" I asked her.

"Spencer called me from your phone. He told me everything. Page, I'm so sorry about your mother." She said. I just shook my head at her and continued to hug her. That's when I felt the tears fall from my eyes. I didn't even know why I was crying. I don't know if it was because of all the drama we just went through, or if it was because my mother was gone. Maybe it was because I just really missed Brandy and needed a friend.

"I thought you would need your best friend. That's why I called her. I hope you're not upset with me?" Spencer said, as he approached us. I turned and faced him and I saw his face got sad when he saw my tears. He wrapped his big arms around me and the three of us walked inside.

"Thank you Spencer." I said.

"I'm going to go put our things away. You have some time with Brandy." He said. I smiled at him and Brandy and I took a seat on the couch.

"This is all really weird." Brandy said.

"Weird doesn't even begin to explain this. You knew my mother, she didn't have a suicidal bone in her body, but the cops are saying the only finger prints on the gun are hers. None of this makes any sense." I said.

"So what's going to happen now?" She said.

"Nothing, they closed the case and are saying it's a suicide." I said.

"This is all crazy. Do you know of anyone who would want to hurt her?" Brandy asked. I laughed.

"Only every man she married. I would say. She took them for their money. That would piss me off." I said. We both just sat there quietly for a moment. Then she turned to me.

"What about Spencer?" She said. I looked over at her.

"What do you mean? Like could he have done this?" I said. She smiled.

"No, I mean is he going to stay here?" She asked. I realized I haven't told her anything about him and I. I took a deep breath and started to go into detail about Spencer and I. Her face was set in shock. I just kept looking at her waiting for her to say something.

"Brandy!" I hollered. She shook her head.

"I don't know what to say. You don't think he would hurt your mother to be with you? Do you?" She said.

"God no, not Spencer. If you could of seen him out there. You wouldn't think that. He was genuinely concerned about the situation. He ran over to her and pulled her into his lap, but she had been out there a long time. She was gone already and there was nothing he could do for her." I said. Brandy took a deep breath

"So now what happens between you and him?" She asked.

"I can't answer that just yet. Tomorrow we go to read her will." I started to play with my hair. Something I had done ever since I was little, whenever I was nervous.

"What's wrong Page?" She asked me.

"I'm just not sure what her will is going to say. Only because she didn't care for anyone. For all we know her money and home could be gone. I'm just worried what it's going to say. Not that I want a damn thing, to be honest, and I know she didn't leave me shit." I said. Brandy just shook her head.

"Sounds about right." She said. We talked for about an hour before she decided to head home. Of course telling me she wanted to know everything about Spencer and I. I hugged her good bye and closed the door. I turned and ran into Spencer.

"Oh, sorry I didn't see you there." I said. I looked up at him and he had an odd look on his face. "Spencer, is everything okay?" I asked him. He was holding a large black box in his hands and he pushed it towards me. I looked down at it. "What's that?" I asked.

"Open it." He said. I took the box from him and sat down on the couch with it. When I opened the box it was full of money. There had to be thousands of dollars in the box. I looked up at Spencer.

"What is this?" I said.

"I just found it in her closet under the floor boards." He said.
