23 years later......
I sat in my bedroom on my bed rolling up my black stocking, getting ready for my father's annual ball for his company. My dress was hanging off my closet door. At least this year my mother talked my father into doing a different type of ball. This year he is hosting a masquerade ball with my uncle Seth, his business partner. I'm actually excited about this party. Every year it's the same old boring party that my father has done all my life. My mother and I went shopping together for our dresses and I'm excited about wearing mine tonight. My brother and sister, the twins. They didn't live at home anymore and was already working with my father. Here I am 23 and still at home. I guess you could call me the black sheep of the family. I never really wanted to follow in my family's footsteps. I was already rich and would be forever. So, why would I want to try and make more money? I wanted a free life to roam and learn different things around the world. I didn't really have huge hopes and dreams. I just wanted to be free. Free to write or paint, free to sail around the world, free to travel and see everything, free to open my own type of stores and free to learn about other cultures. I just wanted to be free and be me.
I was also a lesbian, I knew I was attracted to females at a very young age. There was never any men that I was ever attracted to. I never even entered the fact. When I came clean to my family about it. They were very supportive and I loved them all even more for that, but I still felt like the outsider of the family. My sister Jordan was newly married and my brother Jacob well, he is kind of a playboy. I don't think he will be settling down anytime soon.
Knock! Knock! I looked over at my bedroom door as my mother Ivy stuck her head in. "How's it coming along? Do you need help getting into your dress?" She said. I smiled at her. I loved my mother so much. She was the most caring and loving person I knew. None of us kids got lucky enough to have her beautiful red hair. When I was younger, about fifteen. I made the huge mistake of trying to dye my hair color. Let's just say that turned out to be a mess.
"Yes mama, I could use your help." She smiled at me and came into the room. She was dressed in a beautiful dark green satin ball gown. I really loved that color on her. She was so beautiful. She grabbed my ball gown and pulled over my head.
"So Beth, do you have someone special going with you tonight?" She asked me.
"No, It's just me tonight," I said and she smiled at me.
"Well, maybe you'll meet someone tonight. I met your father at the ball." She said and looked down smiling.
"Yes mama, I know the story," I said. She ran her hand down my face.
"Your all set sweetheart." She said as she left the room. After I was finished getting ready. I met the rest of my family downstairs. The only one who wasn't here yet was my brother, he was always late. I'd swear if I didn't know any better I would think he was gay. The only straight man I knew who took longer to get ready then a woman. My mother and father were over in the corner kissing. Something we were all very used to. They really loved each other and had always been very open about just how much. They had been through a lot together. My sister and her husband looked amazing. Jordan came running over to me.
"You look beautiful Beth." She said wrapping her arms around me. My sister had my mother's sweet personality. I think I took after my father more when it came to personalities. All though, my brother and sister do take after my other father Justin, as far as looks go. I never got to meet him and learn his personality, but my father claims Jacob takes after Justin a lot. I guess Justin was a pain in the ass too.
"Okay everyone Justin is going to meet us at the ball, so let's get going." My father announced. We all started heading for the front door. My father came up next to me and put his arm around me. "You do look very pretty tonight baby." I smiled up at him.
"Thanks, daddy," I said. We all climbed into the limo and headed to downtown Chicago. My father's parties were always a very big deal. We pulled up and there were spotlights in the front. We all pulled our masks on and headed inside. The place was decorated in old Victorian style. It really looked beautiful. We found our table and I took a seat. I watched as my family made their way to the dance floor. I stayed behind to drink my champagne. I slipped my mask off and turned to see my brother making his way over to me.
"Well look, here is the life of the party. My sister Beth." I just smiled and shook my head at him. Then I heard her.
"Oh, I don't know. It looks like she is enjoying herself just fine. I think I'll sit here and join her." This beautiful and very sexy blond moved away from my brother and took a seat next to me. She had the most intense green eyes I had ever seen.
"Adriana, I'd like you to meet my date. Allissa Hewit." Of course, she was my brother's date. Most of the women he dates are very good looking. I took a deep breath and smiled at her.
"Hello I'm Adriana, but you can call me Beth." She smiled at me.
"Your very beautiful Beth." I blushed.
"Thank you," I said. I could have sworn she winked at me.
"I'm going to get some food." My brother said as he left us sitting there alone.
"So tell me about yourself, Beth?" She asked me. I looked up at her. She had the fullest lips and all I wanted to do was kiss them.
"There's not really much to tell. I'm Jacob's younger sister. I'm not in school and I don't plan on going. I'm thinking about moving to Paris in a year or so." She smiled at me.
"Paris, why there?" She asked me. I took a drink of my champagne. She watched me intensely.
"I'd like to learn about the culture and I think I want to write and paint for a while. I've got a ton of things I want to do with my life, but no real goals. I'm nothing like my brother or sister. Hell, I'm nothing like my whole family." She continued to smile and watch me.
"I like that you're a free spirit." She said. I nodded at her. Jacob came back over to the table and asked Allissa to dance with him. She nodded at him and smiled at me as she put her mask back on. I watched them walk off and I took a deep breath. I decided to get up and do some exploring. This was a new building my father and uncle choose to use this year. Might as well check it out. I found my way out to a large garden with a huge pond. The night sky was full of stars surprisingly because you can never see the stars in the city. It was quiet and there was a cool breeze.
I walked over to a stone bench and removed my mask. My shoes were killing me. I decided to remove them as well. Then I heard a deep voice.
"If I had known I was going to get a peep show, I would have come out here soon." I turned to see a gentleman heading towards me.
"What do you mean?" I asked him. He smiled at me from under his mask.
"Well, first it was your mask and then your shoes. I'm wondering what comes off next?" I laughed.
"I guess you should have stayed quiet and you might have found out, but now that I know you're here. This is as far as I go." He snickered at me.
"That's not fair. I could go and hide." I just raised an eyebrow at him and we both laughed. "So what brings a beautiful creature like yourself out here tonight?" He asked me.
"I just like it better out here," I said and he smiled.
"Yeah, I don't much care for large scenes myself. Are you here with anyone?" He asked me. I shook my head no at him.
"Just with family. What's your name?" I asked him.
"Oh, where are my manners? I'm Dante Marks and you are?" He asked me.
"Well if I tell you. You might not want to keep talking with me and I'm rather enjoying our conversation." He raised his eyebrow at me.
"Well now I'm really intrigued, who are you?" He said. I giggled.
"How about you take off the mask and I'll think about telling you. For now, you can just call me Beth." He nodded at me and removed his mask. Like I said before, I've never been attracted to males, but he was very attractive. This was new to me.
"Are you disappointed?" Not at all. He was actually very attractive. He had dark blond and brown hair with hazel eyes. He was very tall and muscular. Things I never really took notice to.
"No, not at all," I said blushing. He smiled.
"Okay Beth, I showed you mine. Now tell me yours." I took a deep breath.
"Okay, but promise me you won't leave?" He put his hand up and crossed his fingers. He really was cute. "My name is Adriana Elizabeth Jackson. Daughter of Reese Jackson." He eyed me for a moment.
"You mean your the daughter of the man responsible for tonight's party?" He said. I nodded at him. "It's kind of hot that I'm sitting out here with one of the city's most powerful man's daughter." I laughed and punched him in the arm. "Ouch, and she is strong too, for such a sexy little thing." I blushed. This was all very funny to me, considering no man has ever made me feel this way.
"So Dante, who are you here with? I'm assuming you work for my father?" He smiled at me.
"I don't work for your father, but my ex-wife does." His ex-wife? I said to myself.
"You've been married?" I asked him.
"Yes, I was for three years, but it wasn't working out for me. She needed someone to bring her tonight and I offered to help." I smiled.
"That's very kind of you." He smiled at me.
"How about a dance Beth?" I slipped my shoes back on.
"Why not?" I said. He stood up and held his arm out for me. I took it and followed him back inside. We put our mask back on and headed to the dance floor. Dante put his arm around my waist. Then he pulled me close to his body. I took a deep breath and his smell was intoxicated to me. Maybe things were changing. I giggled to myself. We danced away to the music.
It felt surprisingly good to be in his arms. Then I heard a voice behind me.
"Do you mind if I cut in?" It was kind of a sassy voice, but enough to make us stop and look. There stood an older attractive blond woman. Her arms were crossed and she didn't look too happy.
"Sure," I said as I started to move away from Dante. He stopped me.
"No Sierra, when the song is over and I'm finished dancing with Beth. Then you can cut in." Her face was full of anger as Dante moved us away from her.
"I'm not here to cause you any trouble," I said up to him.
"No, but you're saving me from my ex-wife." I just smiled at him and shook my head.
"I figured that's who she was. She is very pretty." I said.
"Yeah, she used to be." He pulled me closer to him. "But you're beautiful." He whispered in my ear. I felt that all the way to my toes. Then I felt him kiss my cheek as the song ended.
"Thank you for the dance," I said as I left him on the dance floor. My heart was pounding in my chest. I needed to getaway. I've never felt this way about a man before in my life. I need to know what was going on. My mother, I need to find my mother. I stopped and turned back around to look through the crowd. I saw Sierra approach Dante on the dance floor, but his eyes were on mine. I smiled at him and mouthed, I'm sorry. Then I felt that I had to pee, shit I really had to pee.
I went down a long hallway and found the restroom. It was quiet and I was the only person in here. After about twenty minutes of trying to just pee in this huge ridiculous dress. I decided it wasn't much fun to be this dressed up. I headed out of the bathroom and I was greeted by Allissa waiting for me. Fuck, she was hot.
"Oh hey, the bathroom is all yours. No one is even in there." She just stood there smiling at me. I cocked my head at her. She came closer to me and pushed me back against the wall. Her face came closer to mine. I could feel her breath on me. I licked my lips and she pressed hers against mine.
