Chapter 33

The heart never let's go.- Quote.

Adriana's POV,

Play it cool. I said to myself. "If you gentleman don’t mind, we are having dinner and will be done shortly," I said. I turned back to face Paul, doing my best to act normal.

"Can we have a word with you, Paul, please," Dante said. His voice sounded different and distant. I took a deep breath.

"Please Beth, excuse me for a moment," Paul said. I nodded at him and he got up. The three of them went outside. I turned slightly, just enough to see Dante. He didn't look the same. The light in his face was gone and he had gotten more muscular. He was wearing a black suit with a black long coat. He just didn't look like my Dante, but I knew it was him. You could tell he was upset, as he let Paul have it.

Paul started to make his way back inside the restaurant. I watched as Dante and the other man got inside their vehicle. Dante turned to look back at me. I smiled at him and he winked at me. My whole body got a warm tingling feeling throughout it. I turned away and waited for Paul to sit back down. "I'm so sorry for that Beth." He said as he took his seat. He looked irritated.

"It's okay Paul, who were those guys?" I asked.

"I work with them." He said.

"They look pretty mean," I said, fishing for information.

"Yeah, Dante can be. He is my bosses right-hand man. Sometimes he can be a little forceful." Paul said. Dante forceful? I said to myself.

"What kind of work did you say you were in?" I asked.

"You seem to be pretty interested in my work," Paul said.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know I was invading your privacy," I said, sitting back in my chair.

"No, no your not. I'm sorry Beth. You're not doing anything wrong. They have just irritated me for the evening." He said, looking back down at his food.

"It's okay. Hey if you need to go, it's okay. We can always do this a different night." I said. He looked up at me and smiled.

"Really, you wouldn't mind?" He asked. I smiled at him. "Thank you, Beth, I wouldn't do this if it wasn't important." He said. I started to get my things together. He paid the bill and we walked outside. There was a chill in the air as I pulled my coat on. "Can I give you a ride home?" He asked me.

"No that's okay, I actually live pretty close," I said.

"Okay, thank you, Beth. I'll be in touch." Paul said as he leaned in close and kissed my forehead. "I promise I'll make up for this." He said and waved goodbye to me. I turned and started to head home. My feet felt like they could fly. I was back to my apartment in no time.

I got inside and closed the door behind me. I kicked off my shoes, as I made my way into my bedroom. I took my dress off and grabbed my robe. I pulled it on and grabbed my cell phone. I looked at the time and it was almost ten. That made it the middle of the night in New York. Enzo would surely be in bed right now. I didn't want to wake him up, but I was freaking out. I could always call my father. No, it's Enzo I need to talk to. Screw it, I'm calling him. I dialed his number and waited for him to pick up.

"Beth, do you know what time it is?"

"Enzo, I'm so sorry, but I saw Dante."

"I told you not to interfere."

"I didn't. I went on a date tonight with a man I just met. Just by coincidence, Dante and a different man came inside the restaurant looking for my date, but don't worry I played it cool, but he is here Enzo. What should I do?"

"What was said?"

"I'm not really sure, but they seemed to be up to trouble. Enzo, Dante didn't look like himself. He looked rough and dark in a way."

"Okay Beth, I need you to listen to me. I want you to stay away from him. Do not go seeking him out. It sounds like maybe he is running with a bad crowd. Besides if he is still with Allissa the last thing you want to do is alert her to your presence. Let's just hope he was trying to send you a clue and that he doesn't go back to Allissa and tell her about you because if that's the case you could be in danger. Dante can be a very dangerous man Beth. I know because I trained him."

"I promise I won't do anything stupid."

"I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Okay, just keep me informed so I don't go out of my mind."

"I just need to try and find out what he is involved with. It might take me a little time. Don't change anything about your life. You need to keep up appearances."

"Not a problem and Enzo thank you so much."

"Don't worry about it, Beth. Dante is like a son to me. I'll get this taken care of."

We hung up the phones and I felt a chill. I went out to my living room and started a fire in my fireplace. I tied my robe around myself. I was still in my bra and panties. I went into my kitchen and made myself a cup of tea and went back to my living room. I took a seat on my couch and watched the flames. I was so worried about Dante. He just looked so different. He looked almost cold. I took another sip of my tea. I hoped he was safe. He didn't look like he was in any danger. In fact, he looked like he was the one bringing the danger.

I sat there in silence, with a million different thoughts running through my head. I all of a sudden missed Leo. He would know what to say to calm me down. At least he would help me relax. I wish I wasn't alone. That's when I heard a knock at my door. My heart stopped as I turned to look at my door. No one ever comes to my place this late. Even if it was Emma, it's still too late for her to come knocking. I set my tea down and went over to the door. I didn't have a peek hole, so I couldn't see who it was. "Who is it?" I asked, but I got no answer. I took a deep breath and opened my door. There he stood. My breath caught in my throat. I opened my door wider. He was covered in sweat and it was cold outside. His face looked dark and twisted. "Dante," I said, almost as a whisper. He came inside and closed the door behind him. I backed up some and kept my eyes on him.

He was breathing heavily and he locked eyes with me. I felt a chill and was a little frightened. "Sugar." Was all he said. The next thing I knew, he had me pressed up against the wall, holding my hands above my head as his lips crashed into mine. He pulled my robe open and I felt his warm hand wrap around my body. I took a deep breath when his lips left mine and went to my neck. My hands were free as I reached out and wrapped my arms around him. I jumped up into him and he took a hold of me. The next thing I knew my back was on the couch and he was on top of me.

"Dante," I said. He looked up at me and put his finger to his lips.

"Shh." Was all he said. His lips went back to kissing every inch of my body that he could. He was devouring me like he has been hungry for over a year. He removed his suit jacket and my robe was wide open. I could see the appreciation on his face. No words were spoken between us. He dropped his pants and went back in between my legs. He pulled my panties down and dropped them to the ground.

He started to kiss me back up to my neck. His one arm went around my body as he lifted me to him and then I flew him enter me. It was softly at first, but then he started to move fast and deeper inside me. My fingers were clawing at his back. "Fuck." Was all I heard come out of his mouth. His face was buried in my neck. My legs wrapped around his hips trying to get him deeper inside me. I could feel the sweat falling from his slim muscular body onto mine. He tasted like salt and cigarette smoke. Something I wasn't use to with him. He continued to slam in and out of me. I could feel my body building up to my orgasm. He growled as I felt his body start to shake and mine went right along with him. I moaned out into his ear as his body started to relax. He laid on top of me for a moment, without saying a word. I continued to run my fingers through his hair. "I've missed you so much." He whispered out. I could feel myself starting to get upset. The tears threatening to fall. He still hasn't moved and I just held him.

"Dante I." I started to speak, but he stopped me.

"No questions just yet. Please just let me hold you. I don't have long." He said.

I stayed quiet and ran my fingers up and down his back. He held on to me tightly. A few minutes passed and all I could hear was the sound of his breathing and the cracking from the fireplace. I felt him take a deep breath and he sat himself up. He started to get dressed. I wrapped my robe around myself and sat myself up. He sat back down to put his shoes on. "Dante, where are you going?" I asked him.

"I'm sorry my love, but I've got to go before they know I'm missing." He said. I shook my head.

"Who?" I asked. He just looked over at me. I knew he couldn't answer me. "Allissa?" I said.

"Not just her." He said.

"Dante. Please talk to me." I pleaded with him.

"I don't have the time tonight. Please just trust me." He said. My tears fell down my cheeks. "Please sugar, don't cry. It kills me to see you cry." He said kissing my lips. He started to get up and make his way towards the door. I ran over to him and jumped into his arms.

"Please Dante, don't leave. Stay with me. We can go home." I pleaded.

"It's not that simple baby, please. You don't understand." He whispered. I cried uncontrollably in his arms. We both ended up on our knees, holding each other. "Beth I want you to understand something. I never meant anything in those letters. I would never choose anyone over you. I love you more than you could ever know. You have never left my thoughts or my dreams. I need you to understand that." He said and I nodded at him.

"I knew it, I knew in the back of my mind that the letter was fake. Even when everyone told me to move on. I just couldn't do it. I love you Dante, always." I said, still crying. He kissed my lips deeply.

"I've got to go sugar." He said.

"Please." I said.

"If I don't go, your family will be killed and we will have to run and hide for the rest of our lives." When he said that, my body went cold and I sat myself back away from him. I didn't understand just yet, but I believed him.

"Your being threatened, that's why you haven't done anything? That's why your still here?" I said. He nodded at me. I kissed his lips one last time and told him to go.

"I love you Beth." He said as he left my apartment. I just laid there on my floor and cried.
