I sat in the bathroom with my mother for almost twenty minutes. "I can't believe this is happening. I'm on birth control." My mind went into a million different thoughts. Who's was it? How did this happen? What am I going to tell them? My mother stood there smiling at me. "Mom!" I hollered. She just laughed.
"I really don't know what you want me to say here." She said. I was at a loss for words. I placed my hands on my face and just sat there. My mother walked over to me and placed her hand on my shoulder. "This isn't the end of the world Adriana. This is happy news." She said. I looked over at her.
"How can you even say that?" I asked her.
"Because Beth, they love you. They will understand. Trust me and if you can't do that, then trust them." She said. I just looked back at the three tests I just took. Those two blue lines stared back at me like a reminder that shit just got real. I really didn't know what I was going to do.
"Please mom, keep this to yourself for now," I asked her.
"Of course sweetie." She said. "I'm very excited for you Adriana. I'll be here for you no matter what happens." My mother said. I smiled up at her.
"Thank you, mom," I said. She gave me a hug and left the bathroom. I stayed in the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. Good job Beth. I said to myself. I didn't know what I was going to do. I wasn't ready to be a mother. I'm pretty sure Dante and Leo weren't ready either. For some reason, I felt very alone at that moment. That's when I heard a knock at the bathroom door.
"Sugar, are you in there?" Dante said. I took a deep breath and opened the door. Dante took one look at me and made his way into the bathroom. "What's wrong sugar?" He asked me. I don't know what came over me, but I just burst into tears. Dante took hold of me and pulled me into his arms. "Talk to me love, what's wrong?" He asked as he stroked my hair. I looked over to the counter top where the three pregnancy test were. Dante's eyes followed mine. He let me go and walked over to the counter. He picked up one of the tests.
I took a seat on the toilet and watched him. "I'm so sorry," I said, looking to the ground.
"What are you sorry for? How can you be sorry? You're making me a daddy." He said.
"What?" I said, looking back up at him. He had a huge smile across his face. "But what if it's Leo's?" I asked.
"So what if it is. We're a team." He said. I couldn't believe my ears. I was completely shocked by him. He was happy about the baby. That made me smile. I took a deep breath.
"We need to talk to Leo," I said. Dante took my hand and we headed out of the bathroom. "We're going now?" I asked.
"Yes, he has the right to know," Dante said. We found Leo sitting in the living room with my father and brother. They were lost in conversation. Dante walked over to Leo and said something in his ear. Leo nodded and stood up. The three of us walked upstairs and went into our room.
Leo laid back on the bed. "What's up, guys?" Leo said. Dante went and took a seat next to him.
"Beth has something to tell you," Dante said. Leo sat up and looked at me. I took a deep breath and just kind of stood there.
"What's up, babe?" Leo asked me. I looked at him and smiled.
"I'm pregnant," I said and looked to the ground.
"You're what?" I heard Leo say.
"I'm sorry, but I'm pregnant," I said.
"There you go again apologizing for our child," Dante said. I looked up to see a bit of shocked look on Leo's face.
"Are you really pregnant?" Leo said. I nodded at him. "I thought you were on birth control?" Leo asked. Shit, he is not okay with this.
"I am, I don't know how this happened. I've never missed a pill." I said. I started fiddling with my fingers.
"Babe, do you think I'm upset with you?" Leo said. I nodded at him. "I'm not upset with you. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, but I'm definitely not upset with you. I mean, I guess this is kind of amazing." He said. I looked at him and smiled.
"Really?" I said. Leo came over and wrapped his arms around me.
"Yes babe, this is amazing. I never thought about being a father before, but I'm ready. Let's do this." Leo said. I hugged him tightly.
"Okay then, I guess we're having a baby," I said.
"We need to get you into the doctors soon," Dante said.
"Let's take your family out to dinner and tell them," Leo said.
"My mother knows. She is the reason why I took the test in the first place. I swear she is psychic. I'm not even feeling sick or anything." I said.
"Are you late?" Leo asked. I thought about it for a second.
"Yeah, but only by about three days and that's not uncommon for me," I said.
"I think taking your family out tonight would be good. Enzo gave us the week off to be here with you and the family." Dante said. "I mean unless there is some kind of emergency that he needs us for, but things have been pretty quiet lately," Dante said.
"I'll go and let everyone know we're going out for dinner tonight." Leo said. He kissed my nose and left the room. I went and laid back on the bed. Dante sat next to me and started to rub my leg.
"What's on you mind sugar?" He asked me.
"Oh, I don't know. About a million different things. I love babies, I always have, but I've never thought about being a mother myself. What if I'm no good at it?" I said. Dante smiled at me.
"Your kidding me right? Beth all you do is take care of us. You were raised by a wonderful mother who taught you well. Your going to be a great mother." Dante said. I smiled at him and went into his arms.
"Thank you." I said.
"For what sugar?" He asked me.
"For believing in me." I said.
"It's a good thing we bought a big house. I want to fill it with babies." He said. I looked at him.
"Can we see if we can get through this one before we just start filling it with babies?" I said, smiling at him like he was nuts. He laughed a little.
Later on that evening we all got dressed and ready to go out for dinner. Dante got us reservations at this fancy Italian restaurant in Manhattan. It is one of my favorite places for dinner. The rest of the day before dinner Leo and Dante had been missing for a couple of hours. When they had returned, they had gotten me a dress for dinner. I thought that was sweet, when they both came to me with white roses and a new dress. Sometimes the two of them can be so sweet to me. It was a simple pink dress that flowed down from the breast. It fit me perfectly and was comfortable. I felt pretty in it and I loved it more because they picked it out. I stood in the mirror and felt like the luckiest woman in the world. Not only did I have one man that loved me, but I had two. I felt a little selfish that I wasn't willing to share one of these amazing men with some other woman. I didn't know what made me so special, but I was very grateful I had them both.
Everyone was dressed nice and I was so happy to see everyone together and getting along. I swear in just a little amount of time, I felt like such a sap. I was so full of love, all the people I cared most about were in this one spot. I almost felt like crying. The seven of us piled into the limo and headed off to dinner. I sat next to my mother. "Do they know?" My mother asked me in my ear. I nodded at her and smiled. "See, I told you?" She said, winking at me. My brother and Leo were lost in some sort of conversation. The two of them have always been pretty close. Dante and my father were more alike than I think even they realize. My sister was talking with me about being a mother and how she was ready for more babies. I just smiled at her as she told me how much she loved being a mommy. It started to make me more and more excited about it.
We got to the restaurant and we were seated in a private room with a large table. I was glad we got a private area and could enjoy dinner that much more. We all took our seats and got lost in conversations. That's when Dante stood up and got all of our attention. I smiled at him as he started to talk to everyone. I had told Dante and Leo earlier that they could tell everyone about our little secret. They both agreed and were happy about it. "Thank you all for joining us for dinner tonight." Dante said. Leo stood up next to Dante.
"It's good to see Beth happy because you are all here." Leo said. My mother and father smiled and held hands.
"Our beautiful girl here has informed us that she is pregnant and we couldn't be happier about it." Dante said. I heard my sister squeal with delight. My father had a huge grin on his face and so did my brother. Both my mother and sister came rushing over to my side and wrapped their arms around me.
"We have one more announcement that we would like to make before we eat." Dante said. I turned to look at then because I had no idea what they were up to. My mother and sister both went back to their seats. That's when Dante and Leo came to my sides. All of a sudden both of them went to their knees. My eyes widened as they both said at the same time.
"Will you marry me?" I watched in shock as they both had rings in their hands. Leo was a simple ring, lined in diamonds. Where as Dante's ring looked almost the same, but had one large diamond on top. They fir together as a set. I looked up at both of them with tears in my eyes.
"Yes, yes I'll marry you both." I said. They slipped their rings on my finger. My tears fell down my face. They both kissed my cheeks. Everyone was clapping and got up and came to my side. My father was shaking hand with Leo and Dante. I had a feeling my dad knew this was going to happen. I stood up and hugged everyone and showed off my beautiful rings. Each one had a name engraved inside the band. The one from Leo said Leo and the one from Dante said Dante. I was overwhelmed with love and of course was crying like a big baby. My father walked over to me and I went into his arms.
"My baby is not a baby anymore." He said, as he kissed the top of my head. I just smiled up at him.
"Did you know they were going to do this?" I asked him.
"Of course, they had to get my permission first." He said.
"Are you really okay with all of this?" I asked him.
"Well I would be some sort of hypocrite if I wasn't. Dante and Leo are good men Adriana. I'm a lucky father that they both love you as much as they do." He said. I just squeezed him harder. I don't think I could have been happier than I was at that moment.
