I woke up the next morning alone in Dante's bed. I sat up and looked at the clock. It was a little past nine in the morning. I stood up and wrapped the sheet around my body. I then headed out to find Allissa and Dante. I found them both in the kitchen laughing and cooking. I leaned against the door frame and watched them quietly. I had a huge smile on my face. Dante was the first to see me. He smiled and walked over to me. "Good morning sugar." He said.
"Good morning." I said back.
"Come sit down Beth. We have bacon and eggs and potatoes. Dante is a great cook." Allissa said. I walked in the kitchen and took a seat. Dante kissed my head and walked back over to the stove.
Allissa smiled at him and took a seat next to me. "How are you feeling this morning?" She asked me.
"Good, how about you?" She looked over at Dante and smiled.
"I feel great." She said, not taking her eyes off him. I watched her watch him intently, but I thought nothing of it. Dante made us each a plate and sat with us, next to me. Allissa got up and moved herself to the other side of Dante. Okay, that was weird. I thought to myself.
After I finished my food, I got up and took everyone's plate and started to clean up the kitchen. I felt Dante come up behind me. "You don't have to do that sugar." I smiled to myself.
"I want to." I looked over at him and we were about to kiss, but Allissa spoke up.
"Why do you call her sugar?" She asked. Both Dante and myself looked over at her.
"I don't know, I guess because she is." He turned and looked at me. "She is sugar, sweet and addictive." I just smiled at him and blushed a little.
"Well maybe we should get going Beth." Allissa said. I looked over at her. She looked kind of annoyed.
"Allissa, is everything alright?" I asked her. I walked over to her side and moved a piece of her hair over her ear.
She looked up at me. "Yeah, everything is fine, it's just, I've got a late class today. I need to get home." Dante walked over to both of us.
"Go ahead and get dressed, I'll take you both home." Allissa and I nodded our heads at him and we both went upstairs. We were getting dressed and Allissa was being unusually quiet.
"Are you sure everything is okay? Are you upset about last night?" She looked over at me.
"No, of course not." Was all she said.
"I don't regret it. I really like being with you." I said. She smiled at me.
"I like being with you to Beth." She said. That made me feel better. We finished getting dressed and met Dante in the living room. Before we made it to the door, there was a knock. Allissa and I both looked at each other and Dante opened the door. It was the same woman from the ball. His ex wife I believe.
"Sierra, what are you doing here?" He asked. She stepped into the house like she owned the place. Then she saw Allissa and I. She stopped and looked us over.
"I'm sorry Dante, I didn't know you had company." She said in a sarcastic tone.
"Well maybe if you had called first instead of just showing up here, you would of known." Dante said, still holding the door open. I took Allissa's hand.
"We can just wait outside and let you two talk." I said, as I lead Allissa and I out of the house. We stood in the hallway by the elevators waiting for Dante.
"I wonder what she wants?" Allissa said. I just shrugged my shoulders at her.
"Who knows." I said.
Dante came out of his place and looked very pissed off. Allissa and I stepped out of his way. I looked over at his door and Sierra just stood there with her arms crossed. We all got on the elevator. "Is everything okay Dante?" I asked him.
"Yeah, just her same old bullshit." He said.
"Is there anything I can do?" I asked him. He wrapped his arm around me.
"Your already doing it." He said and smiled at me. Then he reached for Allissa and pulled her into us.
We pulled up in front of Allissa's dorm. She kissed us both and got out of the car. As we were driving I asked Dante what was going on with his ex. "She just can't seem to understand that it's over. She keep trying to get me back." I shook my head.
"That's got to be rough, I'm sorry your going through that." I said. "We must have really shocked her then, when she saw us." He looked over at me.
"Considering, you and Allissa were the first women she has ever seen me with, yeah, she was pretty upset." I rolled my eyes.
"She sounds like a whole lot of fun." I said, he laughed.
"Your a lot of fun." I smiled at him.
"Did you think Allissa was acting funny today?" I asked him.
"No, not really. Why?" He said.
"It just kind of seemed like maybe she was upset with me. I mean I asked her and she said she was fine, but I felt something different." I looked out the window and watched the cars pass us by.
"Do you have to go home." Dante asked me. I looked over at him.
"No, I don't have to be home." He smiled as he kept driving. "Where are we going?" I asked him.
"You'll see." He said. We continued to drive for a while when Dante pulled off onto a dirt road.
"Are you taking me out here to kill me?" I asked him. He started laughing.
"Maybe." He said with a smile on his face. I just smiled and shook my head. The dirt road lead us to an old run down house. I was sure, back when it was first built it was beautiful. It was hidden back in the woods and very seclusive, nothing but woods all around. He parked and we got out of the car. He took my hand and we walked around the back of the house. It had a wrap around porch and there was a huge pond in the back.
"What is this place?" I asked him.
"My great grandfather built it back in the thirties. It now belongs to me. I'm not sure what I want to do with it." He said.
I took a look around. The place was absolutely beautiful. It was over run and needed a ton of work, but if it was fixed up, it would be beautiful. "You should fix it up." I said. He looked over at me.
"You think so?" He said. I nodded my head at him.
"This place is beautiful Dante. With some love and care, you could make it even better." I said, he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me.
"I really like you Beth." He said in my ear.
"I really like you to." I said. He kissed my neck and I turned around and kissed his lips. "I've never liked a guy before." I said.
"I like knowing that I'm your first kiss and I'm the first one to be inside you." I smiled.
"You so dirty." I said. "And besides I've been kissed before." He looked at me.
"By a man?" He asked.
"Well no, but your still not my first kiss." We both laughed. We walked back to his car.
"Come on sugar, I'll take you home." I nodded at him and got into the car.
"You should really think about fixing this place up." I said to him. He smiled at me and we took off.
Back at home, I was sitting in my room when there was a knock at my bedroom door. Figuring it was my mother, I hollered out. "Come in." My father opened the door.
"Adriana, I'd like to speak to you in my office please." He said. That's weird, he only wants to talk in his office when he is upset about something. My father, Mr. Reese Jackson, can be a real asshole when he wants to be. The man is very tough sometimes.
"Okay dad, I'll be down in just a minute." I said. I don't think I've done anything wrong lately? He closed my door and I got up and threw on my slippers and headed to his office.
His door was closed, so I knocked before I entered. Respect meant a lot to my father. He hollered for me to come in. He was sitting behind his desk and he was alone. Most of the time, if one of us was in trouble, my mother would be in there as well, but my father was alone. "Yes daddy?" I said, like a hurt little girl. Get a grip Beth. I said to myself.
"Come in and sit down. I want to talk to you." I nodded and took a seat in front of his desk. "I need to ask you a question, and I want you to be completely honest with me." I nodded at him. "Are you seeing Mr. Dante Marks?" How the hell did he find out about him? I asked myself.
"Well sort of, why?" My father ran his hand through his hair.
"He is a bad man Adriana, and I want you to stop seeing him." I almost laughed out loud.
"I'm sorry, what?" I said, with humor in my voice.
"You heard me, and since when did you start seeing men?" He asked me. Both my parents seemed to be okay, the day I told that I was a lesbian. Over time, you could tell my father was having a harder time with it than I thought, but then again he has never been a big supporter of my choices in life. Like my brother and sister, he wanted me to be a part of the family business. He was very disappointed to learn that I wanted nothing to do with it, but even more disappointed when I told him I wanted many different career opportunities.
"Dad, why would you think that about him? Do you even know him?" I asked. He stood up and came over and took the seat next to me.
"His wife Sierra, works for me." I cut him off.
"His ex wife." I corrected him. He smiled.
"No honey, they are still married. I will be helping her with her divorce, but they are still married." I sat there wondering if I had heard Dante wrong or if he just lied to me. I started to get defensive.
"Why are you helping her?" I asked him.
"Because, she is a very good and trusted employee of mine and the last six months have been very bad for her. All she wants to do is move on with her life, but Dante won't let go." I stood up.
"That's a lie." I said. I started to get upset. "She is the one that won't let him go." My father stayed calm.
"No baby, that's not the truth. He is not a good man and is very possessive and cruel." I just shook my head and crossed my arms.
"You don't know what your talking about, I'm telling you, that you have it backwards." My father cocked his head at me.
"How can you be so sure?" He asked me.
"Because, I know him. She showed up at his place today. I'm telling you, the way he spoke to her was not the way a man would talk to someone that he wanted to be with." My father took a deep breath.
"You've been to his home?" My father asked.
"Of course, I'm seeing him." I put my hands up in the air as I spoke.
"Adriana, you have known him for only a short time, Sierra has been married to him for three years. How can you be so sure about him?" My father was right. I had only known Dante for less than a month, but still nothing about this sounded right. It felt wrong to me. I was always the type of person to never listen to rumors. If I wanted to know something for sure, I found out for myself and made my own decisions.
"With all due respect, I don't believe the things that woman has told you, but I will find out on my own." I could see the anger on my father's face and I braced myself for an argument. The problem between my father and myself was we were very much the same, and it caused us to fight a lot. There was a point in my life, where I thought my father hated me, because we would fight so much.
"You will stay away from him." He said.
"I'm twenty three years old father, and I'll see whoever I please." He pressed his lips into a thin line.
"As long as your living under this roof, you will do as your told. Stay away from him Adriana, this is my only warning." He said and left the room slamming the door behind him. I took a deep breath. Then I guess it's time for me to move out. I said to myself.
