Chapter Three

Jewelianna looked around and saw that she was in the hospital. How she got there, she had no idea. She looked to her right and there was a handsome stranger tucked in the corner of the room. She licked her lips at the sight of him and found her lower lip had a cut. That's when the throbbing of her head started causing her to groan.

"Jewelianna." The man shot up from the chair to rush to her side. "How are you feeling?" He grabbed her hand and brought it to his face, closing his eyes cherishing her touch.

"My head hurts."

"I'm going to go let the doctor know that you're up."

"Who are you?"

"You don't remember me?" He frowned.

She shook her head and she winced. "Don't move." He rubbed his hands down his face. "What's the last thing you remember?"

Tears slipped from her eyes as she started to shake her head again but then she remembered the pain it caused. When she tried to think of the last thing she remembered she came up blank.

"Shhh, little one. Let me get the doctor and I'll be back." Bran brushed the tears from her face and he lowered himself to kiss her at the corner of her mouth, careful of her injuries.

"I'm sorry." She called out as he made it to the door.

"For what, baby?"

"Not remembering you. What’s your name? Maybe it’ll help.”

"Lexington." He smiled at her and his heart start to beat a little faster when she repeated it back to him. It sounded like the very first time. "It doesn’t ring any bells but I like it."

"Get some rest. I'll be right back." He gave her a reassuring smile before he closed the door behind him.

Once he let the nurse at the nurse’s station know that Jewelianna was awake and couldn't remember anything he walked the short distance to the waiting room where Dom sat. Once he saw Bran he stood and met him halfway. "She okay?"

"She doesn't remember a damn thing."

"Like from last night or her whole life?"

"I don't know. I asked her what was the last thing she remembered and she just started to cry."

"I should have known you were here when I seen your henchmen downstairs." Niko was rolling Allie up the hall in a wheelchair with a drained Bare following behind them.

He noticed Allie had a small bandage above her eyebrow and another across her cheek. Her left arm was in a sling and she cradled it carefully with her right.

"I'm not leaving her." He shook his head.

"He couldn't even if he wanted to." Dom stated but he wished he hadn’t.

"What does that mean?" Allie frowned.

"I see you found a way to get to your friend, Mrs. Lane. Mr. Lane" The woman with a white coat slightly frowned.

Knowing Allie she probably had given her some trouble. That was Allie's middle name. “Mr. Branson." The middle aged brunette approached him with her hand outstretched. He shook her hand firmly then turned to Dom. "This is my brother, Derek. You know those two and that’s my other brother, Ashton. She nodded to them then her eyes moved back to Bran.

"I'm Dr. Daisy Henderson. I performed your wife's surgery on her head..." Once she said that he could feel Allie's eyes burning into him but he didn't care, he would do it all again to make sure she wasn't alone. "...It was minor but there was some internal swelling. So even though the surgery was successful the swelling is probably what’s causing the memory loss."

"How bad is it?"

"She knows her maiden name, birthday, She says she graduated from college with a degree in graphic design So it's not as bad as it could be." She turned to Bran. "Mr. Branson, when did the two of you get married?"

"Yes, Bran? It seems like it was just yesterday you guys met." Allie scolded.

"Allie!"

Everyone turned and a longhaired angel flew their way. "What the hell happened? Where is Jewels?"

"Doctor Daisy can you let us see Jewels, please? This is her sister, Jaslynn and we are all the family she has. We won't be long but we just need to make sure she's okay and see how bad her memory is." Allie asked as nicely as she could while reaching out to hold Jaslynn's hand.

"What about her memory?" Jaslynn asked as she rested her hand to her heart.

"Let's go. I'll explain while we walk.” The doctor lead them back to Jewelianna's room while she talked to Jaslynn.

"Jewels!" Jaslynn ran to her sister and held her close. "I'll leave you guys for a moment and I'll be back to check on her later." Bran gave her a short nod and watch how the sisters held on to each other. "You could never stay out of trouble, Jewels."

"It wasn't my fault, Jas." Her eyes moved to Bran. "Or was it?"

"It wasn't your fault, sweetheart. Some asshole ran through the light and slammed into you and Allie." That was when her sister locked eyes with him. She soaked in his presence and was pretty much trying to read him. She opened her mouth to speak but she closed it looking back at her sister.

"You're Allie?" Jewels turned to Allie.

"Yes." She almost looked hurt.

"Could everyone just give me a minute, please?"

Niko nodded. "Allie is getting discharged later so we'll stop by before we leave." Jaslynn mouthed the worried 'sorry' as Niko rolled Allie out the door. Bran gave the signal for Bare and Dom to leave and they followed behind Niko and Allie out the door.

"You guys too. I just want to be alone."

"Do you know who this is, Jewels?"

He locked eyes with Jewelianna. Damn, he wanted to see that fire in her eyes. He waited for her eyes to light up with recognition but nothing.

“Jewels?” Jaslynn waves a hand in front of her face.

"He's looking at me like I belong to him."

"You do."

Branson didn't want to start their relationship with a lie but what choice did he have now? She was looking up at him and he knew there was no way he could do what she asked. Leaving her wasn't an option. He could only ask himself why had she become so important to him in so little time. "Bran?" He looked to see Niko standing at the door. "Allie wants to talk to you for a second." He should have known this was coming but he knew it was something he couldn't avoid but before he left he walked over to Jewelianna and kissed her on the forehead. "I will be back." He looked at her sister and she had a look of envy then it turned to worry. He reached over to touch her hand. "Everything will be okay." She nodded as she watched him walk out the door.

"Bran, are you-"

"Not here." Bare whispered as he turned to look at the nurses who looked to be doing work but he could tell listening ears were about. They moved off to the corner of the hall as Bran gazed out the window. That didn't stop Allie from lighting into his ass

"Are you out your damn mind? What in the hell were you thinking?" She paused. "You did this on purpose." She said in disbelief.

He turned around. "What are you talking about?"

"Why would you be here otherwise? You just met her last night."

"Baby, relax." Niko rubbed at her shoulders trying to keep her at ease.

"Haven't you heard of love at first sight?" Dom teased.

Love? Did he love her? He couldn't but that didn't mean he didn't care about her or that he couldn't learn to love her.

"I didn't want her to be alone, Allie. They were only letting family in to see her and I didn't know she had a damn sister on the way."

"Because you don't know her! You're doing this-"

"Enough!" He got down to her eye level, placing both hands on the handle of her chair. He could see Niko tense body behind her but he made no move as Dom and Bare closed in on him. "I didn't know she lost her memory but there is no going back now. How in the hell can we explain this shit to her?"

Allie started to cry and Bran cursed, stepping back from her and Niko stood in front of his wife. He knew she could be a lot but that didn't give Bran the right to do her like that. "Everybody just relax." Bran let out a frustrated breath. "Do we tell Jaslynn or not?" Niko asked when he saw her leaving from Jewels's room. "Hurry, she's coming this way."

"Nobody knows but us and that's how we keep it." Bare said.

"Hey, she's asking for you but I'm sorry that we haven't been properly introduced." Jaslynn held out her hand to Bran. "I'm Jaslynn Stevens and Jewels says your name is Lexington."

"Branson or Bran is what I prefer to be call but your sister seems set on calling me by my first name."

Jasylnn laughed. "Leave it to Jewels to be difficult. She says that the doctor called you her husband. How long have you guys been married? It doesn't sit right with me but I know my sister so I can't be upset." He didn't know what she meant by that but he answered her anyway, half-truthfully. "We're not actually married yet but I said that because I didn't want her to be alone." Before she could ask another question he excused himself to go check on Jewelianna.

"She told you, didn't she?"

"Who told me what, baby?" Bran asked as he closed the door behind him.

"Jas. She told you that I wanted you to come back."

He smiled strolling over to the bed that she sat straight up in. "Did you miss me?"

"You were the one that said you were going to be back." She folded her arms with a frown on her face.

"I was talking to Allie but I was coming back. I'll always come back for you." He kissed the top of her head.

"Can you help me put the pieces together?"

"Baby." He sat down on the bed pulling her into his arms, careful of her injuries. "I don't know if I can." When she started to pull away he held her tighter. "I haven't known you that long but you can ask me questions and I'll try to answer them the best that I can."

She leaned back in his arms and stared into his eyes. "Can I trust you?"

"To the moon and back."

"You look like you could use some rest." Dom walked over to Jaslynn. She was seated in the waiting room, her arm propped on the chair and her head rested on her arm.

He loved how she looked like Jewelianna but at the same time looked like her own woman. Her skin was darker, almost like coffee with a few tablespoons of cream and sugar. He bet she was sweet all over.

"I flew all the way from Miami but I’ll do it all again for my baby sister." She laid her head back against the wall as Dom claimed the seat beside her. "How are you involved in all of this?"

"Bran is like a brother to me. I'm Dom. Well, I'm Derek but they call me Dom."

She rolled her head against the wall to look at him. "I guess that makes Jewels like a sister to you then, huh?" She had a relaxed smile on her face.

He smiled at the thought of the first encounter he had with her sister and couldn't help but laugh. He did find Jewels attractive but since Bran claimed her she was definitely family now.

"I don't think we've been introduced." Jaslynn's head snapped up to look at Bare as he stood over her looking like he was ready to attack. He knew when Bare liked a woman and he really liked Jaslynn. She had their attention since she flew in like a little bird.

She looked at him then back at Bare then she surprised him. She stood tall and held out her hand. "I'm Jaslynn."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Jaslynn." He brought her hand to his lips and brushed a kiss across her knuckles. He watched her shiver as she snatched her arm away, probably from the shock that aroused her body. "Are you like a brother to Bran too?"

He nodded his head but couldn't speak. It had been a long time since a woman left him speechless.

“What’s your name?”

“Bare.”

“Bare?” Her brow arched.

"You look tired. Bran is not going to leave your sister's side tonight so you should probably head out and try to get some rest." Dom suggested.

"And leave my sister here? I don't think so but if you want to head out that's fine but I'm staying even if I have to sleep here."

Mm. She had a feisty side. He liked that. "You won't rest well." Bare said.

"I won't rest at all knowing I left my sister in the hospital only knowing her name."

"Well, we'll stay right here with you." Bare said.

"Why?"

"To keep you safe."

"It's a hospital. Plus, I can take care of myself."

"I'm sure but we can do it better."

Before she could say another word Bare put his finger to her lips and pulled her to the bench that was tucked in the corner of the waiting room. Dom sat on one end and Bare motioned for her to sit beside Dom and he sat, nuzzling her between two strong bodies. "You guys are huge." She mumbled adjusting herself between them.

"Rest." Bare forced her head on his shoulder but she snatched away leaning more into Dom.

"You could've put a please on that or something." She frowned before closing her eyes as she laid back against Dom who was as stiff as wood and just as hard. He knew he would be hurting something bad in the morning from sleeping on a bench and from ignoring his erection but he would gladly do it for the woman snuggled against his side.

Bran was relieved that he hadn’t had to answer many questions from Jewelianna tonight. After a few questions about them, a nurse came in asking if she had an appetite. It had been a day since she had ate so he was sure that she was starving for some real food. They kept it light with a tomato basil soup and a piece of toast and their infamous jello. She had ate most of her soup and even offered him some. He declined and encouraged her to finish the rest. Soon after she had finished he helped her to the bathroom and back into bed where she fell asleep. He was tempted to crawl into bed with her but he wasn't sure he would fit so he sat at her side for awhile before he retired to the couch a few feet from her bed. He checked his phone and found that Dom had directed everything to him and he was grateful that he hadn’t had to deal with business right now. There was a single text from Briggs saying that he made it to his destination. He didn’t know where and didn’t ask. That’s how they operated. All he needed to know was that his friend was fine. He tucked his phone back in his pocket and he finally let sleep claim him.

"You tricked me." She whispered in her sleep.
