Chapter 26

“What do you mean you got a house here?” I asked Darren.

“Just what I said. I want to be close by at all times. What if something goes wrong and I can’t get to you right away?”

“But I don’t want you to have to uproot from your home,” I said.

“Scarlet, I can work anywhere. I don’t have to be in one certain spot. You know my family, you know who we are. I’m good anywhere I go.” He said. It’s been three months since I found out that I was pregnant. I’m five months along now and things have been going well so far. Darren has been here once every month and now he has just informed me that he has bought himself a home here. I sort of feel like Lucas has been distant and every time I try to talk to him about it. He blows me off and says I’m crazy. I know this is hard on him, but I have to think about my baby right now. Darren, on the other hand, has been a dream. I think that’s the reason why Lucas has been acting the way he has. Darren hasn’t given him any reason to start trouble.

Darren has been nothing but about the baby. He hasn’t tried anything with me and he is always so respectful. I think Lucas has secretly been hoping that Darren would stop caring and leave me and the baby alone. I just know that, that’s not the type of person Darren is. Of course, Lucas would never admit to that. “Do you want to come to see the place?” Darren asked me.

“Sure, when?”

“Now?” He asked. Lucas wasn’t home and I knew he was working late. I got up and grab my things and followed Darren out the door. We drove about ten minutes and then Darren pulled into a large driveway that went far back and there were a lot of trees. The home was beautiful. Darren came over to my side of the car and let me out.

“This is really nice Darren."

“I know.” He said with a smile. “Come on I want to show you the inside.” He said and he took my hand and lead me inside. It was nice and open and had very large rooms. He took me upstairs and showed me where his bedroom was. Then he took me to the door right next door to his bedroom. When he opened the door my mouth fell to the ground.

“Oh my god, Darren,” I said as I stepped into baby land. Darren obviously hired someone to decorate a baby room. The room was covered in all pastel colors. There was a beautiful white crib sitting in the middle of the room and stuffed animals everywhere. He had a white rocking chair set up by the window that overlooked a clear pond. The room was magical and I had just realized I hadn’t even started to buy anything for the baby. Darren came walking into the room and took a seat in the rocking chair.

“What do you think?”

“It’s so beautiful Darren. Our baby is so lucky.” I said. He smiled at me and I walked around the room looking and touching everything. Darren just watched me.

“I have something I want to ask you, Scarlet?” Darren said. I nodded my head at him and took a seat on the small love seat in the room. “My family is flying in soon. They want to see you and I was hoping you would be okay with that. They know our whole situation and they want to know you.” He said to me. I felt nervous about the whole thing, but this was something I had to do for my baby. They were it’s family too.”

“Okay Darren, That’s fine with me. Do they hate me?” I asked him. His face went into shock.

“Why on earth would you think that?”

“Because we’re not together."

“No Scarlet, they don’t hate you. My father understood right away. My mother, on the other hand, was on a rampage about how I needed to be with you and how we needed to be married. Once she calmed down and let me talk. She then understood. You will be fine.” He said to me. “By the way, anytime you want to be in this room with our baby. You can be, it’s not just for me.” He said and smiled. I smiled back at him.

“Thank you, Darren."

Later on that night I was in the kitchen making some dinner when I heard Lucas come walking in. “Hey handsome your home early tonight,” I said as I turned around and he was leaning in the doorway just looking at me.

“Where did you go today?”

“Darren bought a home here. He showed it to me and he showed me the baby’s room he had set up.” I said. I have never lied to Lucas about anything and I never will keep anything from him. Even if he didn’t ask. I still would have told him about it.

“Boy he is really trying out for father of the year,” Lucas said.

“Stop sounding so bitter Lucas. Darren is welcome to do what he wants.”

“I’m not bitter, but he didn’t have to move here,” Lucas said. I walked over to Lucas and kissed his nose.

“Listen to me, Darren can do whatever he wants. He wants to be as involved as he can, but at the end of the night. It’s always going to be your bed I will be in.” I said and kissed him again on the nose. I then walked back over to my dinner I was making. Lucas followed me.

“Can I help you?”

“No, but you can have a seat and keep me company,” I said. He smiled and took a seat at the bar.

“What are you making? It smells good.”

“Fried Chicken, mash potatoes and gravy. Corn on the cob and steamed asparagus.”

“That sounds amazing. Is it just us for dinner tonight?” He asked me. My mother has been joining me for dinner a lot. Because Lucas is usually gone until late.

“It’s just us baby, and I have a surprise for you later,” I said and winked at him. He had a cheesy grin on his face. Lucas set the table out on the back porch for us and I brought all the food outside. I made way to much, but I was hungry while I was cooking.

“Damn girl, are you sure it’s just us for dinner?” He said as he started to make his plate.

“Shut up Lucas, I was hungry,” I said crossing my arms. He took a deep breath.

“I’m sorry Scar, I didn’t mean it like that.” I just gave him a look and piled the food on my plate. After eating all my food and still nibbling on some corn. I told Lucas to meet me in the bedroom in an hour. He agreed and walked off to his office. After I had got out of the shower I stood in the full-length mirror in the bathroom looking at myself. I was almost six months along and you could tell without a doubt that I was pregnant. My stomach wasn’t huge, but I did look like a camel doing a backbend. I rubbed on my tummy and that’s when I felt the baby move for the first time. I yelled out for Lucas, who came running in like a bat out of hell.

“What’s wrong?′ He yelled. I stood there naked holding my belly and he came running over to me. “Are you okay?” He asked as he touched my belly. The baby kicked again as soon as Lucas’s hands were on me. “Oh my god was that her?” He said.

“Her?” I asked him.

“I don’t know. I just feel like she is a her.” He said and I smiled at him.

“Okay, well she likes you."

“You think so?” He asked me. I nodded at him.

“Yes, Lucas I do."

“You look so beautiful right now.”

“Damn it, Lucas. I got a cute little outfit today for you and I didn’t even get to put it on.” I said. Lucas started laughing.

“How about we save it for a different time and you let me take you to bed now?” I eyed him for a moment and nodded at him. I have been so horny lately that it’s driving me crazy. Lucas picked me up bridal style and took me into the room and laid me down on the bed. “You drive me wild Scar, I hope you know that.” He said to me and I grabbed his shirt and pulled him to me.

“Show me just how wild I make you,” I said in his ear and his lips crashed into mine.
