Chapter 28

I just hope all my nights with Lucas can be that amazing. He is everything I want and I will love him always. Darren has called me to let me know that dinner with his family is going to be at his home on Saturday night at six. He asked me to bring Lucas with me. Now I just have to see if I can get Lucas to agree to come with me. “What’s on your mind baby?” Lucas asked as I was making some dinner.

“Remember I told you that Darren would like for me to have dinner with his family? Well, he asked me to bring you along.” I said biting my lip. You could tell he was thinking about what I just told him.

“I guess I could do that.” He said.

“Really?” I said.

“Yeah, why do you sound surprised?” He asked me.

“I just didn’t think you would want to go.”

“I don’t think that the Marsh’s are bad people, but their businessmen and can be very dangerous if they want to be. It’s not like I don’t know Darren’s father.” He said. “They have no reason to harm us. Besides I really need to talk to Mr. Marsh. Now that my father is gone. I need to know if he still wants to do business with me or not.” He said. I nodded at him and served us dinner.

“Okay perfect, I’ll let Darren know it’s the two of us,” I said as I went into his arms. “Thank you,” I said and kissed his nose.

“What for, baby?” He asked me.

“For being so good to me and being a real man and maning up with this baby,” I said.

“Scarlet, I’ll do anything for you.” He said and I crashed my lips to his. We ate and Lucas went to his office to get some work done. I went and set on the couch and gave Darren a call.

“Hello, beautiful?”

“Hello Darren, Lucas is a go for dinner. I have a doctor’s appointment at noon that day. Are you coming?”

“Of course, Scarlet would you mind if my mother came to that appointment?” He asked me. I felt a little uneasy about it. I was just so sure his family is probably going to dislike me. I really want them to like me. I know this is probably not the way they thought they would get their first grandchild, but I can’t change that now.

“Yes, she can come,” I said.

“Really Scarlet? Thank you so much. You are such an angel.” Darren said.

“Your Welcome Darren. I’ll see you on Saturday.” I said and we hung up. Lucas had been in his office for about three hours and I was falling asleep watching a scary movie. I set up and turned the tv off. I walked down the hall to kiss him goodnight. His door was cracked and I peeked inside. The poor guy was asleep on his desk. I walked in and softly woke him up. “Baby, come on let’s go to bed,” I said. He opened his eyes at me.

“I wasn’t sleeping.” He said as he yawned. I just smiled at him. He got up and I followed him to our bedroom. He fell onto the bed and I walked over and started to remove his shoes and pants. His eyes were already closing. I left him in his boxers and teeshirt. Saturday showed up fast and I was nervous about Darren’s mother coming. Lucas was called into work and couldn’t go with us to the appointment. That only made me more nervous. I let Darren know Lucas couldn’t go. So he came to pick me up. I saw him and his mother pull up. They both got out of the car. I took a deep breath and met them on the porch. Darren’s mother was so beautiful and for being in her forties. She looked amazing. I walked out to Darren. I wanted to hide next to him.

“It’s so nice to see you again Scarlet. You look beautiful.” She said. My mouth almost fell open when she came over and hugged me. I hugged her back.

“Thank you, Mrs. Marsh,” I said.

“Please call me Blake.” She said. I nodded and smiled at her. We walked to the car and Darren let me in the front seat.

“Darren, Let your mom in the front,” I said.

“Yeah, no you get upfront. I’m fine back here.” Blake said. I smiled and took my seat. We got to the doctors and set in the waiting room. “Do you want to know what you're having?” Blake asked me.

“I never thought about it,” I said. I turned and looked at Darren. “What do you think?” I asked him.

“I think it would be cool to know.” He said. The doctor came out and got us. I laid down on the table and she started the sonogram. My baby came on the screen and I smiled. Blake and Darren were smiling as well.

“Scarlet, everything here looks great. The baby is healthy and strong.” The doctor said. “Would you like to know the sex?” She asked me. I looked at Darren and he nodded at me.

“Okay,” I said.

“Congrats, you are having a girl.” She said.

“Awwwww,” Blake said and clapped her hands.

“A daughter? Great, this is going to be fun.” Darren said while smiling. I was just smiling away. I had hoped for a girl. I had a name already picked out that I liked. “Are you happy beautiful?” Darren asked me. I nodded at him. I got dressed and met Darren and his mother out in the waiting room.

“Scarlet is Lucas joining us for dinner tonight?” Blake asked me.

“Yes,” I said.

“Oh good, that will give the men a chance to talk.” She said. I had wondered what she meant by that, but I didn’t question it. I figured it meant business. Which meant it was none of mine. They dropped me off and I said goodbye. I walked inside and Lucas was home.

“Hey, when did you get home?” I asked him.

“About ten minutes ago. How did everything go?” He asked me.

“Darren’s mother is very nice,” I said.

“Yes, Blake Marsh has always been a sweet woman,” Lucas said.

“The baby is healthy and strong. Oh, and she is a girl.” I said. Lucas looked at me.

“A girl?” He said. I nodded at him and smiled.

“Oh great one more of you. We are all in trouble.” He said smiling. I punched him in the arm.

“You're not funny,” I said. He just winked at me.

“I think it’s time we start to set up the baby’s room. What do you say tomorrow, I took the day off to go do some shopping?” He asked me.

“Together?” I asked.

“Well yes, unless you want to go alone?”

“No, I’d love for you to go. I just didn’t think you would want to.” I said. Lucas pulled me into his arms.

“You need to stop assuming so much shit when it comes to me,” he said.

“Okay, I’m sorry,” I said as I went to his lips.

Later on, I was in the shower as Lucas was getting dressed. I was singing to myself and my baby. Lucas just stood in the mirror smiling at me. I’ve been singing a lot lately. I guess I don’t sound too bad because Lucas always smiles when I sing. I turned the shower off and stepped out. Lucas walked over to me and covered me in a big towel. “You have about twenty minutes to be ready baby.” He said to me. I nodded at him and he left the bathroom. I was dressed and ready to go in fifteen minutes. I met Lucas in the kitchen.

“I look like a whale,” I said as I stepped in the kitchen. Lucas turned and looked at me.

“Well, do a little spin and let me look at you.” I gave him a heated look and crossed my arms. “How can I let you know what kind of a whale you look like if I don’t see all of you?” He said.

“Lucas!” I shouted. Lucas just started to laugh.

“Baby, your not even that big. All your weight is in your stomach. You look amazing. Now stop being so critical.” He said. I just eyed him for a moment. He walked over to me and pulled me into his arms. “Your beautiful and you're growing a child. I don’t think I have ever seen you look more beautiful.” He said and kissed my forehead.

“Okay, you're forgiven. Now let’s go before we are late.” I said. I turned to walk out and I felt him slap my ass. “Lucas!” I yelled.

“Sorry, but your ass is just so damn sexy in that dress.” He said. “I’m going to bite it later.” I just smiled and kept walking. I had chosen a small black dress that had a larger tummy section. It used to be too big for me, but right now it fits perfectly. I left my hair down, which has become a pain in the ass for me because it’s so damn long. I had it in my mind that I was going to cut it off, but Lucas told me I would live in the car if I cut it. Not because he wouldn’t like it, but he didn’t want to hear me bitch about how mad I would be for cutting it. That was true.

We pulled up to Darren’s new place and there were about five black SUVs parked in the front. “Who the hell is all here?” I said. Lucas looked around.

“Baby, The Marsh’s are Mafia. This is all their security.” Lucas said. “William Marsh never goes anywhere without his most trusted men.” He said. I looked around and sure enough. There were two of them standing at Darren’s door. I could see their guns at their sides.

“Is all this really necessary?” I asked. Lucas nodded his head at me.

“There are lots of people out there who would love to take them down. This is very necessary.” He said. I took a deep breath and rubbed my stomach. Lucas got out of the car and came to my side to let me out.

“Lucas, is my baby in danger?” I asked him. He kind of bit his lip and just started to walk us to the front door. “Lucas?” I said again.

“Let’s talk about that later. Okay, baby.” He asked me. The two guards at the door stopped us. Lucas said something to them and then they opened the door for us. We were met by Darren’s mother when we walked in.

“Lucas, it’s so good to see you again.” She said as she kissed his cheek. Then she came over and hugged me. “You look beautiful tonight Scarlet.” She said in my ear. She took my arm and lead me into the dining room. “I want you to sit next to me tonight.” She said and I didn’t argue. Darren and his very good looking father and about three other men stood in the corner of the room talking. I watched as Lucas made his way over to them. Darren looked at me and winked. I smiled and looked back at his mother. Blake sat me in between her and another woman I didn’t know. “Scarlet, I’d like for you to meet my best friend and family, Ruby.” She said. I turned and looked at her.

“Hello, Ruby,” I said and the woman just smiled at me.

“Ruby married Williams right-hand man Jake over there.” Blake pointed to one of the men standing right next to William. “They have two daughters named Niki and Misty. They couldn’t join us tonight, but I’m sure you will meet them someday.” Blake said. The doors to the side of the room opened and it made me jump a little. I looked to see people bringing food into the room. Everyone came and took a seat at the large table. “Are you okay dear?” Blake asked me. I nodded at her and looked as Lucas and Darren both sat together across the table from me. William took the head of the table. His eyes fell upon me.

“How are you doing?” He asked me.

“I’m well sir,” I said. He smiled and I could tell he appreciated my respect. I had to admit all these men all over this house was very intimidating. I didn’t realize how just how serious all this was. I was worried about my baby growing up in this lifestyle. William turned and looked at Lucas and Darren.

“So tell me, Lucas. How have you all figured this out with my granddaughter?” He said. I felt the sting of fear inside me.

“Dad, we have been over this,” Darren said.

“I’m not talking to you,” William said and Darren got quiet. The power William had was very intimidating.

“What do you mean sir?” Lucas asked.

“I mean, how is this going to work itself out. Scarlet is carrying my granddaughter and she wants you.” He said.

“Yes, sir,” Lucas said. I think Blake could tell I was getting upset. I felt her hand on my shoulder.

“Let them sort this out.” She whispered to me. William shot his eyes at us.

“Do you have something to say, Scarlet?” William asked me. I looked over at Darren and Lucas. I don’t know if it was my hormones, but I just had to say it.

“Excuse me sir, but we have all this figured out. I love Lucas and I care about Darren. You and your family can be as involved with this baby as much as you want to. Lucas knows Darren is the father but Lucas has stepped up like a man and chosen to be with me and this baby.” I said. William smiled at me as I crossed my arms. I kept my eyes on him.

“I like her, she has fire. That’s a good thing.” William said. Before a word was spoken. A very loud bang came from outside of the house. It caused us all to jump. “What the fuck was that?” William said standing up. “Blake, take Ruby and Scarlet upstairs and don’t come out until we get you.” He said and Blake grabbed my hand and we all went upstairs. Lucas ran to my side and kissed my lips.

“Do as your told.” He said and I nodded at him as he took off with a gun in his hand.
