Chapter 34

Darren’s POV,

“Have we found anything?” I asked my father.

“We think we may have found where their hideout, but something just is not sitting right with me.” He said.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Why would they still be here if all they wanted to do was take the baby? If it was me once I got her I would have been as far away from here as possible.” My father said. It all made no sense what so ever.

“Maybe it’s a decoy, something to throw us all off,” I said.

“I have no idea, but tonight we go in and find out.” My father said. I nodded at him and went out to find Lucas to let him know what the plan was. I found Lucas and Scarlet sitting on the balcony. They were talking and laughing. Even when I was the only one she wouldn’t let me near her. I wasn’t making her smile and laugh. I knew it was time to let her go emotionally. I walked outside and they both looked up at me.

“We need to talk,” I said. I was going to just talk with Lucas, but what was the point Scarlet needed to know what was going on as well. I grabbed a chair and pulled it close to them. “We have found a hideout for this Paul Ranger man. My father is sending people in as an undercover deal tonight.” Scarlet looked hopeful.

“What can I do to help?” Lucas asked.

“Nothing, we have to sit back and wait to see what these men can find out. We need to know for sure if our daughter is still alive or not.” I said.

“Amelia,” Scarlet said.

“What?” I asked.

“Her name is Amelia Dalton Marsh,” Scarlet said and both Lucas and I just looked at her. I gave her a smile.

“That’s beautiful Scarlet, thank you,” I said. She smiled back at me.

“How long can this take?” She asked me.

“I don’t know, days maybe.” She took a deep breath.

“I’ve got to get back to my father. I promise to keep you updated.” I said.

“When can we go home?” Lucas asked. I stopped and looked right at Scarlet.

“Do you want to go?” I asked her. She looked to the ground for a moment.

“I mean if it’s safe. Yes, I’d like to go home.” She said. I felt the pain in my heart, but it was what was best. I had to let her go.

“If you two don’t mind giving us just a few days. Just to make sure everything is good.” I asked them. They nodded their heads at me and I headed back inside.

Scarlet’s POV,

Once Darren was gone I looked at Lucas. “Do you like her name?” I asked him.

“Yes baby, it’s perfect. Thank you for including me.” He said.

“She is yours to Lucas, of course, you're included,” I said and he came over to me and kissed my lips.

“Do you really want to go home with me?” He asked. I knew these last few months have been very hard on him. He was going to need reinsurance on how I felt about him. I loved him and I knew that with all my heart. I did, however, love Darren as well. Somewhere over time, I fell for Darren Marsh. He was the true father of Amelia and it made me love him, but Lucas was who I was in love with.

“Yes Lucas, I love you. I want to be wherever you are always.” I said and smiled up at him. Later on that night Lucas and I were sleeping when Darren came rushing into our bedroom.

“She is alive.” He said and I shot up in the bed.

“What?” I said.

“Amelia is alive. We just got reports that there is a baby girl there with a head full of dark hair. It’s her Scarlet she is alive.” He said and I rushed into his arms. He held onto me.

“Thank you, Darren,” I said in his ear.

“What do we do now?” I heard Lucas say.

“The next part of the plan is to try and get Amelia out of there and then we attack them and kill them all,” Darren said. I took a deep breath.

“Please, Darren bring her home to me,” I said. He kissed my cheek and walked back out of the room. I turned and ran into Lucas’s arms. “I’m going to have my baby back,” I said and Lucas held onto me. Two days have gone by and we hadn’t heard a word of the men on the inside. I was starting to get worried but William was just reassuring us that they were doing what they needed to do to get Amelia out of there. I was sitting in the living room with Lucas and that’s when Darren came running into the room.

“Lucas we need your help.” He said and Lucas got up and both Darren and Lucas took off down the hall. What the hell? I said to myself. I wanted to follow them, but I knew I had to let them do their job. I hoped everything was okay. I was hoping this wasn’t going to take much longer. All of a sudden Lucas came running back out to the living room.

“They have her.” He said.

“What? Where is she?” I hollered out. Darren came running out with his father and some other men.

“Let’s go!” He yelled and we all took off.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“She has been taken to a safe house outside of the city. She is waiting for us Scarlet.” Darren said. My heart was beating so fast and this damn car couldn’t move fast enough. It took us over an hour to get to the safe house. Darren explained to us how there was a doctor there making sure everything was okay with Amelia. William had called Blake to let her know what was going on and my mother was also informed. Darren took care of that. Both our mothers would be there the next day. Finally, we pulled up to a small home hidden in the woods. It was a cozy looking two-story log wood cabin and if you didn’t know any better. You would have thought it was an army base with all the security everywhere. No one was getting in or out of the place without someone knowing or dying. We parked and I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. Lucas took my hand and we followed William and Darren inside.

As we walked inside the first thing I heard was a baby cry. I felt the tears fall down my face. Darren turned to look at me and at that moment I saw his tears fall along with mine. “Bring her out!” William yelled out. A man came walking around the corner with a baby in his arms. He walked over to Darren and Darren looked at me.

“Take her to her mother.” He said. The man walked over to me and handed her to me. I took her in my arms and she stopped crying. She looked up at me with the biggest brown eyes. I knew instantly that she was mine. She looked so much like Darren. I walked over to a couch and took a seat with her. I couldn’t stop crying. Everyone surrounded me. I started to kiss her little nose and I kept telling her how sorry I was. Darren took the seat next to me. “She is so beautiful Scarlet,” Darren said. I looked up at him. Even though I never wanted to let her go. I handed her over to him. He took her in his arms and she reached her little hand up and wrapped her fingers around his finger.

“She hasn’t stopped crying since we got her here.” The man who brought her out to us said. “The doctors say she is very healthy.” I took a deep breath. Darren was lost in Amelia’s eyes and nothing was going to bring him back. Lucas was sitting on my other side and he was smiling. I hugged him and that’s when Darren stood up he turned and handed the baby to me. The look on his face was different from anything I was used to when it came to him.

“Now its time to kill the men who took Scarlet and my daughter,” he said. William looked upset but he let his son talk. “My family will all be here in the morning. Scarlet will stay here with Amelia. We are going in to blow this place up and kill every single one of these fuckers who thought it was okay to touch my daughter,” Darren said. I held my baby close to me and Darren looked back at me. I gave him a slight smile. He went to his knees in front of me. “I want you to listen to me well.” He said and I nodded at him. “No one is going to get away with this. Lucas is going to be with us taking these people out. I will never let anyone near you or our daughter ever again. Do you understand?” He said. I smiled and nodded at him.

“Kill them all,” I said in a low voice to him. He nodded at me. He kissed Amelia’s head and then he kissed my cheek. He got up and walked off. William had some men show me and my daughter to a bedroom. I laid her out on the bed and I laid next to her. I wanted to see every part of her. She was amazing and very small, but the doctors said she was healthy. I was sad that I didn’t get to breastfeed her, but my milk dried up and I had to bottle feed her. I heard the door open and Lucas walked inside. “Look at her Lucas,” I said as he took a seat on the bed next to us.

“She is beautiful, baby.” He said and he touched her hand.

“She likes you,” I said and Lucas smiled at me. He bent down and kissed her and then looked up at me.

“I’m going to give you and Darren some time alone with her. We are all headed out tomorrow after his family shows up. Darren and you need some time.” Lucas said. I was surprised by his words, but at the same time, I knew he understood. Lucas bent down and gave me a kiss and then he left the room. Amelia made some cooing noises as her father came walking into the room.

“She knows you, Darren,” I said to him.

“You think so?” He asked me.

“Yes, I know so.” Darren crawled into the bed next to us and he just laid there with her.

“Thank you so much for her.” He said. “I didn’t think I could be so in love with someone so fast as I am with her.” He said and my heart melted. “I would die for her Scarlet.” He said.

“I know Darren. I know just how you feel.” I said. “She is here and alive because of you and your family. I will always love you for that.” I said. Darren looked up at me.

“I’m sorry to say this Scarlet but I need you to know how I feel. I’m so in love with you. I know your heart is with Lucas, but if I thought for just a second that you loved me as much as you did him. I would take you from him in a heartbeat. I will always be here for you and our daughter. I will always love you. I loved you the minute I saw you and I have never felt this way for anyone that has ever come into my life. You will always be protected by me and my family.” He stopped and my heart fell into my stomach. I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t know he felt this strongly for me. “You don’t have to say a word. I just wanted you to know how I felt.” He said.
