Chapter 35

The next morning Blake and her family showed up and so did my mother. I was surprised when I was told there were six bedrooms in this place and a huge guest house outback. This place looked like Fort Knox with all the men around protecting us. Last night was my first night with my daughter and I have to say it went great. She only woke up once and I got her back to sleep with singing to her. Lucas slept in the room with me, but Darren snuck in once and kissed Amelia. I acted like I was still sleeping. We were all in the living room. It was so nice to see so many people loving my daughter. Between my mother and Darren’s mother. I couldn’t get to hold her. I sat there trying to wait for my chance, but Amelia was just charming the hearts of everyone. Darren came into the room and took her from his mother’s arms. “It’s my damn turn.” He said and he took a seat in front of me. I just smiled at him. Lucas came and took the seat next to me.

“How are you doing baby?” He whispered into my ear.

“To tell you the truth. I hate sharing.” I said and laughed.

“Trust me, she is all yours.” He said with a smile. I watched as she let out a yawn and all I wanted to do was pick her up and take her to her bed. Darren looked over at me and smile. He got up and handed her over to me.

“I think she is ready for a nap mama.” He said. I smiled big at him and walked off upstairs to put her down. I sang softly to her as I walked.

“I knew I loved you before I met you. I have been waiting all my life.” I walked into my room and she was already sleeping in my arms.

“You have a beautiful voice, Scarlet.” I heard Darren whisper as I laid her down in her crib.

“Why thank you,” I said softly back to him. He walked around to the other side of the crib and just stared at his daughter.

“She is so perfect Scarlet.” He said.

“I know it.”

“She looks just like you.” He said.

“You think so? I think she looks just like you.”

“It’s to bad she will be our only one together.” He said and I looked up at him. He did it again and left me without words.

“Darren,” I said and he looked right to me. I took a deep breath. “Nothing, never mind,” I said. He smiled and looked back at Amelia. There was a knock at the door and one of Williams men stuck there heads in.

“Darren your father needs you.” He said. Darren nodded at him.

“I’ll see you later beautiful.” He said to Amelia and then he winked at me and headed out of the room. What are you up to Darren Marsh? I said to myself. I grabbed the baby monitor and headed back out to everyone. My mother and Blake were getting along so well. It was nice to see. I took a seat on the couch and realized Lucas wasn’t out here. I wondered if he might be with the boys. I hope things were going to go down soon. I was ready to start a normal life with my daughter. I hated all this and I wanted things to get back the way they were before we had to worry about our every move.

“Baby, baby. Wake up.” I heard Lucas’s voice. I opened my eyes to see Lucas sitting next to me on the couch. I sat up and then I jumped up. The baby monitor was next to me but it was quiet.

“Oh, crap,” I said.

“Calm down, Daren has her. You were sleeping and we didn’t want to wake you, but you have been out for almost five hours.” Lucas said.

“Why did I sleep so much?” I said.

“This has been a stressful week. Your body and brain just probably needed it.” He said. I sat myself up and tried to rub the sleep from my eyes. “Anyways, the reason why I’m waking you is we have to go.” He said.

“What do you mean?”

“We’re going in and taking these people out once and for all,” Lucas said. I looked up at him.

“You're going?” I asked.

“Oh no your not!” I said loudly. He looked at me funny.

“What?” He questioned me.

“There is no way you and Darren are both going. What if something happens to you both? Then I’m here completely alone.” I said. Lucas sat next to me and wrapped his arms around me.

“Clam down Scarlet, we will all be just fine.” He said.

“You don’t know that Lucas. I can’t be here without you.” I said and I started to get upset. He kissed the side of my face. Darren walked into the room.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“She is afraid for both of us to go. She is worried we won’t come back.” Lucas said. Darren took a seat on the other side of me.

“We will both return to you Scarlet. I can promise you that.” Darren said.

“Where’s Amelia?” I asked Darren.

“Your mother has her.” He said. I looked at both Lucas and Darren. I got a smile on my face when I realized I was the middle of a very sexy and good looking sandwich. I then bit my lip and looked down. “What’s so funny?” Darren asked. Lucas was just looking at me.

“Nothing,” I said quickly.

“Sure, do I look funny or something?” Darren said. I stood up.

“I said nothing, god,” I said and rolled my eyes. Lucas just smiled at me. “I’m going to see my baby. When is this mission your both having to go on starting?” I asked crossing my arms.

“Tonight at midnight,” Lucas said.

“I’m telling you both right now. You had better come home or I’m not speaking to either of you ever again.” I said and walked off. That was all I had I didn’t know what else to threaten them with. It took me a minute to find my mother, but she was sitting on the porch with Amelia rocking her. I took a seat next to her.

“Hi.” She said to me.

“What do you think mama?” I asked her as I ran my finger down Amelia’s face.

“I think she is just perfect Scarlet. You did a good job.” She said. I smiled at her.

“Yeah, I think she is a keeper.”

“So, now that your feeling better. Who are you choosing?” My mother asked.

“What does that mean? You know I love Lucas, mom.” I said. She looked at me for a moment. “What mom, okay I know I was attaching myself to Darren, but ...” I stopped talking for a moment. God, did I love them both? I questioned myself. I can’t be having these types of feelings. I want things normal and Lucas is my home.

“But?” She said.

“But nothing, It’s Lucas. Always has been.” I said and crossed my arms and looked away from her.

“You know its okay to love them both. They are both amazing men.” I just turned and looked at her. I sighed and looked back towards the woods. I can’t do this to myself. I kept saying over and over again. I took a deep breath and laid my head on my mother’s shoulder. I had just got Amelia back to sleep when It turned midnight. I walked out of the room and met both Lucas and Darren in the hall.

“Can I kiss her good.”

“Don’t say it, Darren.”

“I was going to say goodnight.” He said. I nodded at him and he went into the room. I went into Lucas’s arms.

“Promise you you will be careful and come back to me,” I said in his ear.

“I promise baby.” He said and we kissed. I watched him walk down the hallway and I turned to my bedroom door. Darren was still in there. I took a deep breath and walked inside. Darren was just looking at her in her crib. I walked over to him.

“Would you be sad if I didn’t come back?” He said to me.

“Really Darren, Of course, I would be. So you had better promise me that you will be careful.” I said to him. He turned to look at me.

“I promise I will be careful.” He whispered and then he came very close to my face. He reached his hands out and tilted my face up. His lips came to my lips and I didn’t stop him.
