30. The Black Cross

Valkyrie POV

“What did I do?” I mumble as I pace the room.

I left Dimitri hanging. My beating heart beat so fast it scared me it would fly out of my chest. Impatient, I kept pacing the room back and forth. A sudden loud bang has me yelping in fear.

Looking at the chamber door, I find a shirtless Dimitri standing in the middle. His breathing was erratic, and his face darkened.

“Dimitri?” I said as I bit my nails.

With long strides, Dimitri walks up and grabs me. Throwing me over his shoulders, I scream.

“DIMITRI!” I said, screaming. Slapping my butt, he walks out of the room. “Put me down!” I said as my head wobbled.

I was kicking him on his back, Dimitri grunts. I couldn’t see where he was taking me.

“Put me down!” I retorted.

Throwing me, I yell. Soft fur covers my body as I stare at Dimitri’s face. Hovering, he glares at me quietly. Why wasn’t he saying a thing?

“I will only say this once, so listen carefully,” Dimitri said as an order. His voice sounded like the one I heard when we met. “I want you. I know it’s new for both of us, but Valkyrie, I can’t hold myself anymore. I’ve been holding far too long. And more for respect. Which I shouldn’t? But I realized something. I don’t want to lose you.” Dimitri said as he pleaded with me.

Staring at him, I sigh.

“Dimitri, I…” tried to say, but Dimitri covered my mouth with his lips. Shocked, I look at him. Sliding his hand under my waist, he pulls me. Opening my mouth, Dimitri puts his tongue in. His seductive movements make me moan loudly. Once his feverish kiss stops. I open my eyes. My lips throbbed as his breathed fan, my now stiff lips.

“Allow me. That’s all I’m asking. I promise I will try,” Dimitri said. His eyes waver. Did I see fear in him? A beast who was a king?

Raising my hand, I caress his face. He looked conflicted.

“Fine,” I whispered. “But I’m afraid; I just need you to change, that’s all.”

Nodding, Dimitri leaned his head on the crook of my neck. Then, relaxing his body, he laid down next to me. Hand on my waist, I decided to give in. Hope this is for the best.

Hearing some rustling, I open my eyes. Looking around me, I see Dimitri getting up from the bed.

“Did I fall asleep?” I asked him.

“Yes, please stay resting,” Dimitri said as he grabbed a shirt. “I’ll come and get you for dinner.”

Shutting the chamber door, I laid back down. My body felt exhausted. Sighing, I look at the balcony. A chilly breeze made me cover my body with fur.

It smelled like Dimitri. Smiling internally, I decided to get change.

Sitting up in bed, I walk up to the bathroom. Finding some of my clothes, I whisper a thank you to Mia. It seems she brought this earlier. Grabbing it, I head to change. Letting my dress fall to the ground. I stare at myself. As my arm moves over my breast, I stop.

“What is this?” I murmur as I see a small mark on my left breast.

Hearing the doors open, I cover my body.

“Valkyrie?” Mia called.

“Mia, is that you?” I said as I peered out.

“He, is everything fine?” Mia asked as her eyes stopped on my breast. “Oh, my god!”

Removing my hands from my chest, Mia stares at my naked body. A smile spread across her face as she looked at me.

“No way…” Mia breathes as she gropes my breast. Slapping her hand, I blush.

“Mia!” I hissed, embarrassed.

Covering my breast, I move from her side.

“When?” Mia asked with excitement.

“Wait,” I said, holding my hand up, “What is this?” I asked her.

“Valkyrie, that’s your mark!” Mia said, “You finally have it! But, wait, did you and the king fuck?”

Speechless, I stare at her.

“Excuse me?” I said, baffled.

“Well, if you have it, it means you did it or some sort off, right?” Mia said excitedly.

“Can you calm down?” I stutter, “I have done nothing like that!”

“You haven’t?” Mia said as she clasps her hands over her mouth, “So, did he suck your breast?”

Rolling my eyes, I look at her pissed.

“Nothing like that,” I said but stopped to think about it. Now that I remember, Dimitri laid his head on my breast when we were together.

Mia noticed me frowning.

“Is something the matter?” Mia asked with curiosity.

“Nothing,” I said, turning around. “Uh, do I show this to Dimitri?” I asked to change into a white dress.

“My queen, of course!” Mia said, grabbing my arm, “Let’s get you ready!”

Confused, I stare at Mia as she drags me out of Dimitri’s chambers.

Cursing under my breath, I stare at my clothes. Was Mia serious right now?

“Perfect! I bet Dimitri would be speechless,” Mia said happily.

Taking the jewelry from my neck, I turn away. This wasn’t me.

“What are you doing? No!” Mia said as she saw me removing the heavy jewelry.

“Mia,… this is not me,” I said.

“But you’re no longer a slave. Now you are a queen,” Mia mumbled while rolling her eyes. Pushing me makes me stand in front of a mirror. “This is you now. Stop looking at your past, Valkyrie.”

Staring at my reflection, I sigh. Mia had outdone herself.

A long golden dress with black ruffles molded my body. Flower details decorated the bottom part of the dress. On the front, my breast stood out as the dress had a wide cleavage. The mark was visible to anyone.

I felt too naked.

“This… I want to wear something else,” I said as I thought of a way to change dresses.

“No, it won’t happen. So take that awful idea out of your head.” Mia said, “You look beautiful, Valkyrie.”

As I wanted to open my mouth, someone knocked. Mia and I looked at the doors.

“Who is it?” Mia asked.

“It’s me. Is Valkyrie there?” Dimitri said on the other side of the door.

Panicking, I look at Mia. A bright smile spreads on Mia’s face as she runs up to the doors. Cursing, I plaster a smile on my face.

Opening the doors, Dimitri walks in and stops as he stares at me from head to toe. Toying with my hands, I keep my head down. I didn’t want to see his reaction.

“Valkyrie?” Dimitri whispered. Looking at him through my lashes. I see Dimitri’s mouth half-open. Then, clearing his throat, he walks over.

Offering his hand, he waits for me.

My eyes roamed his body.

He was wearing a black coverall and a cloak. It had golden chains hanging.

The intricate design captivated me.

“Valkyrie?” Dimitri whispered, making me snap at him.

“What?” I snap, confused. Realizing that he still had his hand raised. Holding it, without another word, we head to dinner.

Walking into the room, I see everyone already eating. Damian’s eyes met mine. For a split second, I thought I saw him gasp. I was confused by his reaction. Then, I hear a sudden clattering. Prince Cian was staring at me, his mouth hanging and his eyes wide.

“Cian?” Damian called, but Prince Cian just stood up and walked over to me. Dimitri stopped, confused about what was happening. Then, pushing him away, he grasps my arm.

“What the fuck!” Prince Cian said as he looked down at me angrily.

“Back of Cian!” Dimitri said, pushing me behind him. Gripping Dimitri’s cloak, I plead with him. I didn’t want them to fight. Dimitri growled, but Prince Cian roared back.

“Move!” Prince Cian hissed.

“Calm down,” I said.

Intervening, I stand in front of Dimitri. Looking at Prince Cian, I ask him, “Do you have something you want to ask me?”

His eyes lowered to my chest. Then, growling loudly, he raised his icy eyes.

“When?” Prince Cian asked, gritting his teeth.

“A while ago,” I said as I looked deep into his eyes.

“What is he talking about?” Dimitri asked.

“He doesn’t know?” Prince Cian asked as he met my eyes.

“No,” I reproached.

“What is it, Valkyrie?” Dimitri asked again.

My eyes never left Prince Cian. There was something dark lingering in his eyes. Why was he even mad?

Turning around, I look at Dimitri. Then, pulling the dress lowered to show him, Damian and Leo stand up abruptly.

“Your mark?” mumble Leo.

“This is?” Dimitri asked, still not understanding.

“This is my mark. Our mark,” I said, showing him the small dark mark. A small swirl in the shape of a cross appeared on my left breast. Then, looking at Dimitri, I see how a bright smile spread across his face.
