52. A Greedy Father

Valkyrie POV

“Here, drink this,” Zar offered me a glass of water. Taking it, I take a sip.

Was I pregnant and from Dimitri?

“Valkyrie, look at me,” Zar ordered, lifting my face so I could look into his eyes. “Breath, you look pale.”

“Pale?” I mumble, still trying to understand.

“Valkyrie, if someone comes back and sees you like this, they would wonder what’s wrong. So calm down,” Zar said, smiling.

I gulp down nervously. I was pregnant, expecting a baby, grasping Zar’s hand. I tremble.

“You need to calm down. Why are you nervous?” Zar asked as he kneeled.

“Baby,” I muttered, looking at him. Zar frowned. He looked worried.

“You don’t want it?” Zar asked, making me tense up. Did I want the baby? “Answer me, Valkyrie.”

“It’s not that. It’s just that I’m not ready,” I said dejectedly. What I least expected right now was a baby. I didn’t even know what a mother was.

“Listen, if you don’t want to tell anyone, it’s ok. I will keep it a secret. But that,” Zar said, pointing at my belly, “One day it will be visible, and everyone will find out.”

He was right. I couldn’t hide it forever, but I had to for now.

“Fine,” I said smiling sadly, “I will keep it a secret, and thank you.”

Nodding, Zar stood up and stretched as I was about to open my mouth. The chamber door opened. Mia stood stunned, watching Zar and me.

“Oh, you’re awake,” Mia mutters as she eyed Zar carefully.

“It’s ok, Mia,” I said, standing up, “He is fine and healed. Why don’t you call Damian and Michael over? Please?”

Mia looked skeptical. Her eyes never left Zar as she closed the doors.

“It seems I will be in trouble?” Zar glanced my way.

“Don’t worry. No one will do anything,” I smiled back.

Ten minutes later, Damian, Mia, Leo, and Michael walked into the chambers.

Zar sat next to me on the bed as I bandaged a wound that was healing.

“It seems the bastard is awake,” Damian scowled.

“Don’t,” I warned him.

“May I check up on you?” Michael asked as I stood up and gave them space.

“How long has he been awake?” Damian asked me.

“Like twenty minutes,” I lied. I wasn’t going to tell them that Zar woke up an hour ago.

“I see. Did he tell you anything?” Damian asked, glancing his way.

“No, he hasn’t. So I’ve waited for you guys to come,” I explained.

“Huh? What’s this?” Michael suddenly said, making us turn our attention to him.

Mia gasped as she saw the mark on Zar’s back. Zar lifted his gaze. Sighing, I decide to intervene.

“It’s a tamer mark,” I mumble, walking up to the bed and standing next to Zar. “For some reason, we have the same Tamers Mark.”

“Why do you?” Leo stuttered.

“I know, it’s strange. But when I saw hers, I had to show her mine. We are both still surprised,” Zar explained.

“Would you mind explaining what happened to you?” Damian said, changing the topic, thanking him. I turn and pat Zar on the shoulders.

“It would be best if your seat. It’s a long story,” Zar sighed as he sat back down.

Everyone took a seat and waited for Zar to explain. I walked up to the balcony and crossed my arms. I was silently waiting for him to start.

“A few weeks ago. My father found out I had come and exchanged the dragon’s heart for scales. He got enraged and punished me. I don’t know if you are aware, but my father hates me. He had always wished for me to be dead. But because I have the support of the council. He won’t do it. So now he sent me back to my home, and he kept an eye on me,” Zar said, pinching his nose, “Somehow, he realized I was planning to leave the kingdom and sent his men to assassinate me.”

“You wanted to leave the kingdom?” Leo asked, intrigued.

“Yes, I’ve been forming treaties with other kingdoms so dragons and humans can live in peace. My goal is to stop the slaughtering of your kind,” Zar explained, ruffling his hair, “But with my father alive, I can’t think. I’m a pest for him. That I’m preventing him from killing you all.”

Hearing him say that gave me goosebumps. My eyes involuntarily lowered to my abdomen.

“He wants you all dead, and he wants King Dimitri’s head,” Zar explained as I felt his gaze on me. “I’ve been running away from him since a week ago. I got ambushed and could escape several times, but then four days ago, they attacked me, and I got hurt. That’s when your queen saved me.”

I smiled back at him.

“So you escaped?” Damian asked, frowning.

“Yes, barely. The men that helped me were all killed. I was the only one left,” Zar said, smiling sadly.

“And what about that mark?” Damian finally asked.

“This? I’m not a tamer,” Zar said.

“Sure fucker. Isn’t that a tamer mark?” Leo snapped.

“Yes, but I had always kept it hidden,” Zar said, pulling the skin that covers the mark—handing it to Michael. He examined it.

“It’s fake skin,” Michael nodded, “You used this to keep the mark hidden?”

“Yes, as you know. My father cherishes his sons with tamer marks, and so far, only one of them has it,” Zar explained.

“Is it Seth?” Damian asked, growling.

“No, It’s Eros,” Zar said, shaking his head, “My father and he are the only ones.”

“So what about you?” Leo asked.

“I had kept mine hidden for the last ten years. I don’t want to harm your kind,” Zar smiled, “I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m honest.”

Everyone looked at Zar. Eyes glaring at him dangerously.

“I believe him,” I said, walking back inside.

“YOU WHAT?” Damian growled, standing up and hissing my way. I raised my hand.

“I believe him, but it doesn’t mean I trust him,” I explained, “You will need to provide for us information. Something that confirms that you’re telling the truth.”

“Fine,” Zar nodded.

“How do you plan to do that?” Leo asked with a frown.

“I have two different kings who can validate what I’m saying,” Zar said, looking at Damian.

“Spit it, tamer,” Damian growled.

“The king from the Fae Kingdom and your peace treaty king that is on the border of the kingdom,” Zar spat, annoyed.

“Wait, you mean the kingdom of the south?” Leo said, surprised, “He knows you?”

“Yes?” Zar said, rolling his eyes, “Not only him, a lot of the other kingdoms know me. They know what my goal is,” Zar said, chuckling, “Go ask them.”

“I have a question,” I said, embracing my body, “You mentioned the king of the Fae Kingdom?”

“Yes. You know him, right?” Zar asked as he scanned everyone in the room.

Everyone else looked my way. Finally, making me feel uncomfortable, I averted my eyes and looked at the floor.

“Is something the matter?” Zar asked.

“Not really,” Leo mumbled, sighing.

“Are you talking about King Sesto?” Damian asked, making Zar nod. “Well, it seems you have to talk with your father, Michael.”

Zar snapped his head towards Michael. His eyes were wide in surprise.

“You’re King Sestos, son?” Zar asked as he looked at Michael in shock, “Didn’t he only have a son? What is his name Cian?”

“Not only him. Michael is his son also,” Leo said, laughing.

“What’s so funny?” Zar asked.

“Well, you see. Michael is Cian’s twin brother and King Sesto’s son. And Valkyrie is their cousin,” Leo explained as Michael growled, annoyed.

“You’re not human?” Zar snapped at me.

I smiled and shook my head.

“No, I’m not,” I said, smiling.

“Wow,” Zar said, shaking his head. “Make sure my father doesn’t find out about that.”

“About what?” Damian asked, furrowing his eyebrow.

Zar looked up. A small crease formed on his forehead. Why was he looking at Damian like that?

“Didn’t you know?” Zar asked, confused, as he looked around and stopped when he saw me.

Sighing aloud, he pinches his nose.

“You don’t know,” Zar whispered.

“Know what?” Mia asked this time.

“That my father knows that Dimitri found his mate?” Zar said, frowning.

“He knows?” Damian asked, getting furious.

“Yes,” Zar sighed as he grips the bedsheets, “And he has been keeping an eye on her. My father wants to know about Valkyrie.”
